She is at the point in her career where she has crossed legendary status. And because she's not where she once was (and VERY few ever make it anywhere close) a large group of people dismiss her as a "has been" and won't be able to truly appreciate her body of work and accomplishments until she's gone. This same process happened with MJ and Prince. For those who aren't real fans, only in hindsight will they be able to appreciate the magnitude of her talent and her work.
JoanRudith I totally get where you’re coming from. Once she’s gone all those people who called her a has-been, irrelevant, telling her she needs to retire, etc., are gonna be Mariah stans all of a sudden. Today’s artists & future artists will never reach the success, accomplishments, and legendary status of Mariah, Prince, MJ, Madonna, Whitney, Britney, and more (people can shit on Britney all they want but there’s no doubt that she’s an icon/legend).
Those are irrelevant jealous broke people.
I wouldn't call Britney a legend. An Icon sure!! I'm not a big fan but she has been able to sustain and have an impact! My mind may change in a few years tho. But this is a pattern of what we do with artists. And I've watched it play out several times over once someone who has had MAJOR success is on the other side of the peak. We need to allow them to continue to create and perform as their hearts desire! That is what feeds their souls! Whether it will compete in the current market is irrelevent. The work they have done speaks for them!! After 28 years in....anything else is really just gravy. But hindsight is always 20/20. That's why it takes their deaths for people to stop and take stock of all that they had done! It's a shameful thing we do.
Unfortunately this is the sad truth for our generation of legends I’ve been a MC fan every since I was 5 years old. And I’m still a die hard fan that’s never ever going to change. The fact of the matter is Mariah is human they expect so much from her, but give very little in return. When she delivers it’s a problem or if she decided to switch a few things up it’s a problem if she gives her all oh she’s trying to hard. What more do you all want from this woman she’s giving us the best years of her life and more and honestly I don’t think it’s over she’s so creative and has abilities most artists can ever dream of. Mariah Carey has been doing the same things she’s been doing since the 90s why would she change now! # never count Mimi out they see what happened out of the blue in 2005 it’s that time again to show the industry and public again. If 20+ years Janet Jackson can do it why the hell cant Mariah Carey?

Mariah wasn't lying about Jennifer Lopez at 3:04. A different YT channel did a documentary on Ashanti. Ashanti was pissed that alot of her hit songs went to Jennifer Lopez. And she was singing over them!! So J-Lo was lip syncing to them.

A lot of celebrities had breakdowns during the late 90's and early 2000's. Some survived some didn't. Celebrity life these days seemed to be a lot easier than then. There isn't as many tabloids and paparazies thanks to social media. Tabloids were brutal back then and probably caused many famous people unnecessary mental stress. Mariah is a survivor.

People get so caught up with the “failures” that they don’t realize these celebrities are human and will make mistakes. They also act like the negatives outweighs the positives in every situation. In her life, they don’t. Just like Whitney Houston, yes, it was a shame what happened with the addiction but people didn’t start talking about how good of a person she was and how she was a legend in her own right until she died. We have to stop looking at the failures in these celebrities lives as if that defines them.

As someone who was never a particular fan of Mariah's until I started getting into her music very recently, it's amazing to me how vilified she is. Of course, the public appearances and tabloids and whatnot are one thing, and learning more about her made me more aware of the way she's been treated and why she has the sarcasm she does now (in circumstances that start from a skewed perspective of her, whereas she's as sweet and friendly as can be in circumstances that allow her to be herself)...
But what has been REALLY eye-opening for me has reading online comments after watching her videos. At first, I thought it was strange how defensive Lambs get about Mariah's vocals or accomplishments, but the more comments I read... people really want to HATE her. They have been told this and that and without knowing anything about her, they dismiss her music and her accomplishments and just want to make fun of her and put her down. REGULAR people. It's the wildest thing, and I totally get the things she says and the way she acts (in those particular contexts), as well as the attitude taken by her fans.
It's completely understandable, and I feel regretful for not looking more into all of this later because she is incredibly, incredibly talented and her lyrics -- which *for some reason* (lol) I never knew she wrote -- are amazing as well. Not just the message, but her word choice, the way they're written and arranged, and how she expresses them. So, so, so good.
The biggest lesson I've ever learned is to not just listen to these media outlets, entertainment news, tabloids, all of it. They've villianized so many who don't deserve it. Britney has gotten that her whole career and now she's being portrayed as crazy now or "once saved" and " now spiteful and ungrateful" by HER LITERAL ABUSERS. Mariah was and is no different in treatment before her. Mariah was abused, near put in a conservatorship, and called crazy. Just sickening and inhumane stuff.

Saying she was never abused, I think she may have been emotionally abused by her controlling first husband Tommy Motola he maybe didn't hit her but abuse doesn't have to be physical.

Additionally, the comments about her choice of clothes are completely unnecessary. She's been dressing provocatively since the late 1990s. Touch My Body, like a lot of her other sexually-charged songs, was also very commercially successful. This shows that your distaste of her song and style of dress is your personal preference, possibily rooted in ignorance, and nothing more.
@@rarinkaz She was 18 when she met him and 23 when she married him. Obviously she was inexperienced and naïve. It doesn't excuse her ill-adviced marriage to him (and that the marriage was beneficial for her career because of favoritism), but it wasn't like the power dynamics here were balanced.
I'm not saying that you need to respect or like her choice of clothes. It's actually a relief that you don't always dislike it when women dress sexually, since some people can overreact to things like that. But I am saying that your comments were unnecessary in a thread where we're talking about how an older man was controlling and abusive towards Mariah. I don't like that people call her a diva and dismiss her feelings. She seems like a person who's been through hell behind the scenes. We as humans can only be fake nice and fake smile for so long before we get so drained that we just say screw it. For all those don't know and question themselves about that : she didn't throw shade at Aguilera out of the blue. Christina had previously made bad comments about Mariah's behaviour and said it was probably because of all the medication Mariah was on. So it was a clap back.

I don’t understand y people have had a problem with her all these years. Especially now it seems like everyone calls her a “has been” after one bad performance when in reality she’s been going strong for 30 years. She’s a legend who’s still going strong 30 years into her career so I think she’s earned the right to act like it. People expect her to look and sound exactly how she did 10-20 years ago and hold her up to a much higher standard than everyone else for some reason. Yes, that was smart and funny. But untrue. Madonna has made so much for the lgtbi people when literally nobody defended us, and that is really important. Her work is political. Its OK Mariah hasn't done the same, but she should respect Madonnas work. Besides, Madonna is a good songwriter too.
