    I learned to cook my sweet corn in the husk in the microwave. 3 minutes per ear. All silks come on in one twist of the husk and it tastes fantastic. Haven't boiled away any flavor. Now I'm going to freeze it as you've done and hope that it can still be microwaved in the husk once thawed. Grew up in Illinois 80 years ago and love love love sweet corn. Thanks for you easy to learn from video.

    We have always blanched our sweet corn off the cob. Last year my sister froze hers unblanched on the cob. She said it affects the flavor and she tasted the cob. Shucking and blanching is a lot of work, but so is growing it and I’d rather have the flavor. My grandma said blanching stops the maturing of the corn and preserves the flavor. Grandma was right about a lot of things related to growing and preserving a garden.

    • @useful.knowledge

      Hi. I’m wondering if not blanching affects the flavor for certain varieties. For the G90 corn that I’ve planted for 20 years, it does not seem to affect the flavor. I’ve blanched and not blanched. Even guest that I have over love the corn and do not know that I didn’t blanch it. With that said, it may not work with certain varieties. I agree that Grandma’s are the old school google because they lived it! And they are almost always correct!

    I grew up in Arkansas on sweet corn, fresh. Nothing better IMO. We save our grocery store bags. Put a few ears in depending on how big they are. Double tie them down. And add two more bags and tie them down as well. • @useful.knowledge
      @useful.knowledge  4 года назад +6

      Hi. It really does not show any signs of freezer burn. I didn’t believe it for years but I decided to try a test run last year of about 10 bags. It worked. I never want to put out a video unless I know it will help people so I made certain that this was a success.
      All I do is take out how many ears I want to cook and place them in some hot water. About 5 minutes later, you can shuck them and then cook them. It’s so much faster than blanching. My wife, daughter, and I processed that whole tractor bucket in about 1.5 hours. The best thing is, when you are ready to make corn for dinner, you are shucking a few ears at a time instead of about 300 in a evening.
      God Bless you are your family also!!

    I am 60 years old. From as long as I can remember we would shuck the corn and pack it up and throw it in the freezer. No blanching just wash it off.

    should vacuum seal to keep ice crystals out

    • @useful.knowledge
      @useful.knowledge  3 года назад

      You’ll get some ice crystals on the outside of the shucks but the shucks protect the actual corn from freezer burn. If you wanted to vacuum seal, I think it would provide even more freezer burn protection.

      I see @useful.knowledge hasn't answered this question so I'll be so bold as to try for him. I suspect he did this to see if, in fact, the process worked to his satisfaction. The only way to determine that is to try it and actually eat a few ears at the end of the year.
