- Welcome back everyone! Thanks for tuning into another one of my car history tribute videos.
Today I made a video that sheds some light on the very underrated Subaru XT. I have always admired this car even though I have rarely seen one. The digital dash and adjustable ride suspension always had me in awe and impressed me considering this car is over 30 years old. I felt it had a short and unsuccessful life so I made a video that gives it some of the spotlight it deserves. I don't know, hopefully they will rise again and be sought after in the future - that would be nice to see.
Anyway, I hope you like the video! Like and Subscribe to my channel if you do!
Stay safe and healthy during these times.
*I do NOT own any of these videos/songs
I owned an XT6 and it was a great car. Reliable, great looking and definitely futuristic both inside and out. How I miss that car!
The SVX was it’s successor because it came later than the original XT
Big thanks for uploading this video. I still own an 1989 XT6 and it's my favorite car out of the bunch.
Anytime, thanks for watching!
I too think XT is underrated.
I hope more people realize the appeal of XT!
I see a few pop up every now and then on BAT but not much unfortunately
These cars have the greatest gauge cluster...ever!!
True! I wish more manufacturers did this back then. Probably pretty costly to make but it looks amazing
@@Aaron-ul1gr Digi dashes were sorta common back then but none of them looked as good as the XT's. They were costly too as they were usually offered for a couple model years then dropped for analog gauges
Nice work, the music was the perfect choice to evoke the era! I have all 3, an XT an SVX and an RS Legacy wagon, so you did well hashing it all out mate.
Sean O'Sullivan that’s a solid collection. Thanks man!
That car is way ahead of its time in design and performance.
It has a digital dash like looks like a Sega Arcade racing game or Knight Rider.
It has a frameless windows on the doors which we now associate only to high end sports cars. The steering wheel is totally unique and it's instrument buttons adjust with the steering wheel.
Also because it is a boxer, it's hood is really low. Other car makers need to move the engine to the rear in order to have such low profile hood.
It really was a car in the “right place, wrong time”.
The xt is one of my favorite cars from the 80’s
This video really captures the essence of the car. The music is perfect! I love mine, but all those fancy electronics are starting to fail and rust is eating away. I might pass it on to someone who could better restore it.
Mason Perkins thanks for the view man. Sorry to hear about yours, my Integra is starting to have issues with all of the solder joints in all the relays so I know how you’re feeling. Hopefully yours
can be restored
Dude! Great video.. you nailed it on the head. The XT was the humble beginnings of the design of the most popular car and successful brands today. Subaru is growing, these 80s subys are just cool tho. Classics
Thank you very much! I’m glad you liked it
I have two XTs a1986 turbo XT and a 1988 XT gl they are fantastic cars
I would love to get one some day.
@@Aaron-ul1gr they pop up every now and then for sale on the Subaru XT/xt6 forum on Facebook
Buddy, this was bloody amazing! You earned a subscriber sir!
Thanks brother!
Reliable is a matter of opinion for most of em
I only recently stumbled upon the XT but I quickly fell in love with it and am now looking to buy one as my second car. Sadly they're rare to find and if you do find one, they're in a rather poor shape. Amazing video
Yeah it’s crazy. I’ve only seen a few up here in the Northwest of the US and we’re known for having all the survivor cars still on the roads.
You'll find one if you keep looking.
My last car as a single childless woman😢 after first child was born it sat so much something in the transmission went wrong it would only go in reverse. Watching the gentleman who bought it back it around the corner to his shop was a sad day.
I now have a 2018 impreza hatch sport. It’s nice, pretty to look at, with right body color, low profile tires, tinted windows, and moonroof and I like the gadgets. But to be honest after replacing the transmission in my Ford Focus it definitely is more fun. Full of more mischief even in the base model. Subaru has some work to do on what they call sport.
That child I gave the Subaru up for is now 20 and between him and his friend they have a collection of Subarus. My son has a BRZ, and an Impreza WRX. His friend has three older Subarus including the SVX. I’m waiting for when he comes home someday and says “mom we got a hold of an XT.”🥰
They’re still out there! I haven’t seen many in person nowadays but I’m sure BringATrailer.com has some floating around.
How wonderful this video is a great video the best on this beautiful car.a sincere thank You
Atreyu Principalh thank you!
There is NOWHERE near the amount of content on RUclips for the XT. This video was awesome man!
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed it
Proud 2 say My 1st Car💙✊🏽✌
Great video I love mine 😎👍
Thank you!
I had an 87 XT turbo with a 3spd automatic FWD. I was burgundy and gold rims with chrome lips. It was a very nice car. I used it while in college. It was a good twisty road car. Handled very flat with almost no body roll.
I loved the interior. Nearly all controls were within reach of your hands while on the steering wheel. The only thing I didn't like about it was that parts were harder to find compared to other Subarus.
Subarus back then were prone to have radiator problems. The plastic radiators would clog up over time and your car would overheat. I had a tough time locating a radiator. I went to a few radiator shops and they gave me radiators for a GL. It fit in the radiator area and nearly all mounting points lined up except one. I was quite upset. I had to locate a radiator specific to it. I waited 3 weeks for the shipping until finally receiving it.
The car broke on me, mainly being my fault. I didn't know much about cars back then. Sometimes I would see steam coming from the turbo housing. I had no idea what it was. I kept adding water in the radiator. Until one day I was in the highway and the engine blew. Actually it was the head gaskets. The cooling system lost all coolant. What disappointed me was that the engine temperature did not work. One would like to think that the temp gauge would go up first. But nope. I was on the highway and then PISH!!!! Car lost power and black smoke out the back.
Later I found out that the head cracked. I didn't want to put in too much money in it so I just had them weld the heads. Seems like it fixed it but the car was never the same again. It lost the punch it used to have. I had a feeling that the welding of the heads wouldn't last too long so I sold it.
Too bad that I didn't know much about cars then and that the gauge didn't work. Had it warned me, of course I would have pulled over. What a shame.
I have one and are restoring, if it had a bit more punch it would of done a lot better. WRX running slipping into mine....
I absolutely love my 89 xt6 was an automatic in the process right now doing a 5-speed swap
That should be fun. I’d imagine it was hard to find a 5-speed transmission?
I got lucky and picked up a 86 xt turbo car for free and it has the pedal box shifter transmission that I need for the swap so it's ongoing right now
@@MrAngerthisso the gear box and bellhousing is the same between the 6 and 4 cylinders? For example if one were to have a n/a 4cyl 5 speed model they could swap in the 6 cylinder engine without changing the transmission?
@@420-V.T.L-Machinist yes I have seen guys take a xt6 2.7L engine and put it in a 88gl wagon and used the stock GL dual range transmission so yes the ER27 is the same flywheel and bellhousing as a ea82
RCR need to do a review on one of theses, this car is right down his ally.
In 1986 I bought the Subaru XT 4WD Turbo Coupe in the color called Marina blue. Later years I bought a 1995 Subaru SVX in the color called Emerald green. Yesterday got a new 2023 Subaru Forester Touring Edition.
i had one..loved it....i would buy another today if they brought it back..im 62...
You have less subs than me but you have way better content so I subbed
Driftraid3r Thanks man! Much appreciated ✌🏻
Nice little documentary.
I miss the 80s sportscar, they all got a good looking digital dash
Saw 1 for Sale with 240mph on the dash...over sea's
The video mentions one FALSE claim. The XT6 release is 1988 (accurate) came with new air ride. My 86 XT (gl-10) had air ride/ raising capabilities. My 1987 XT did also. The main differences in 1988, was 6cylinder and Full Time All wheel drive, removal of digital dash.
lol just send a shit to Subaru! they will enjoye it! lol have a beer or crack, whatever! Ho by the way the earth is flat like you! lolllllll
Is there any cars today that has the features and look of this car? Maybe I would say the cybertruck but idk, I loved the XT Turbo 4WD
Not that I know of. I’d agree with the Cybertruck. There are plenty out there with digital dash technology but cyber truck is the only one that displays a wedge shaped “retro” design.
@@Aaron-ul1gr also the suspension raises and lowers
@@ChildOL which is a crazy feature considering the era and that it was coming from Subaru. Very innovative 👍🏻
Any update on your cl175 k4?
Oh yeah… I ended up blowing a ring while pinging the throttle at 60mph. Lol.
I sold it to a guy who planned to restore it and he had found quite a bit of corrosion in one of the cylinders. It had been sitting for a long time before I purchased it.
Last winter I picked up a 1982 CM250 bobber and that’s been my new toy. I think I’m slowly moving away from the cafe look to a bobber style nowadays, but I do miss that 175. I never got to take it on any trails/forest roads like I had wanted to…
Lol this is sick.
Also I want to be friends too xD
Thanks dude! Welcome to the friends club
really hope donut doesnt make a video on this car and bring the value above 10 like everything else theyve featured
It’s only a matter of time lol
I owned one, lovely looks wasted on a dodgy car, it spent more time in the garage than it was driven! I liked it though....
