Trajan may have preferred someone with HC experience to help this young roster. I think he'll be fine with helping to grow the young players. I would have preferred hiring one of the assistant coaches that they interviewed as well, but Bickerstaff did pretty well with the Cavs the past four seasons.

Tom is trying to project the appearance of confidence in the new FO. Another 5 year deal for a coach is super unnecessary, it makes me think we aren’t “real” just an illusion of a competent FO right now. The heavy reliance on a shooting coach to make the roster work is such a reach aswell.

I'm ok JB Bickerstaff. Wouldve like to see Sweeney get a chance, but tough to have an inexperienced 1st time Head Exec in President in Langdon and then a 1st time head coach as well. That might have been a factor in bringing in an experienced Head Coach to offset the brand new front office. Good defensive coach and good job making the Cavs a competitive team over 4 yrs there. They were a disaster when we took over 4 years ago. So similar situation to ours right now in Det

I'm blaffed that they didn't try to solve the interior defense problem in any capacity yet
I'm absolutely uninspired with Trajan so far, but he cannot leave this off-season without upgrading the C position. That's a fatal mistake

As time goes by it seems like firing Weaver and Monty was done to justify three more seasons chasing thirty wins.

@@pheralanpathfinder4897 I was really hoping they'd move on from the past 5 years. But so far it's just the laziest, safest moves they could ever do and they could still end up with another sub-20 win season
I get it, we are not winning in the near future, but at least they could go with some outside of the box plan, a new vision or anything
Let's hope Trajan and the Pistons finally pivots at the next trade deadline

@@pheralanpathfinder4897 my biggest concern is that they're doing neither. If they think they can't win anytime soon, they should start over. Instead they're giving Cade (who btw I love) a max extension and grabbing washed players who won't be here for too long. They'll have like 130M committed in 2025/26 if they don't get rid of anyone. Imagine that if they win like 20 games in 2024/2025. That's an impending disaster
      I hope I'm stupidly wrong

    • @pheralanpathfinder4897

@@rafaelsantana4905 you're not wrong but teams aren't willing to give up draft picks to shed cap. PG13 going to the Sixers it meant no other team had to unload bad contracts to get him.
Rather than chasing young veterans like Naji and Jalen Smith they seem content to sign an old guy as a temporary place holder.
But they could still pull a rabbit out of their hat.

Bickerstaff makes sense for me. Hopefully he lives up to his reputation as a guy good for rebuilding. The only one of these FAs I thought would have any chance of coming to Detroit was Tobias, so I"m still waiting to see where he ends up.

The Bikerstaff hire shows me how much of a dumpster fire this organization is. Coaches did not want to come here. Players do not want to come here.
This is year one of Langdon’s rebuild. We’ll be tanking here for a few more years. On the bright side, we’ll be keeping that 1st round pick we traded, it’s definitely going to turn into a second in 2027.

Also, Cleveland had two bigs that both have legit size/height and were both shot blockers. Our bigs are awful shot blockers. Stewart is good but he's not tall nor is he athletic. Bickerstaff cannot make Duren a shot blocker all of a sudden.

If they are doubling down on signing Cade and making him a max player, we need to see a mini purge on the young talent around him. I’m curious who stays and who goes in this new regime because contrary to popular belief building around a heliocentric player is hard to do. Just ask Dallas and Atlanta fans, until you get a number 2 option that does what Cade does on a night to night basis we aren’t going anywhere.

Langdon stressed patience in his PC which ultimately seemed like the philosophy going forward. Langdon also stated Ausar & Ron may not be playable simultaneously right now but eventually through patience via development, he expects them to be able to play together. That's realistically projecting a 2-3year span. From his statements the three he values right now is Ron-Cade-Ausar. Imo I believe over the course of the season that trajectory will change via Vinson development with Ivey who's already a 34% career perimeter scorer vs Ausar who's 18% and Ron who's 24%.

He would not be the answer at all. We need a stretch five. All NBA teams that are serious about winning a championship have a stretch 5. This year Horford and KP. Last year Joker. Prior to that the Bucks had Lopez. AD was hitting 3s when LA won in the bubble. In terms of analytics, any line up with 1 guy, let alone 3 like Detroit, on the court who are not shooting threats are not going to be good. Look at Boston's draft. Both guys can shoot and play defense. Boston knows what they are doing. We keep drafting guys who can't shoot or play defense. It has not mattered who our coach was or our GM, the same philosophy is pervading everything. With Cade all we need is to draft shooters and defenders. The last 2 lottery picks were Jaden and Ausar. If you understand what you have then both of thos epicks could have at bare minimum beena 3 and D college player who could play off of Cade. In both cases we go for upside and have been just as bad if not worse. The bold move is to stop chasing fools gold and make smart pragmatic decisions.

Terrible hire. We can try to rationalize as much we want because we are fans but seriously, look at his career record. And now he is considered good for rebuilding. He had Spida in Cleveland and they were ok. Injuries yes this past post-season but this is an uninspired hire. A retread who has done ok. Son of a career coach etc. Why not Chris Quinn? As someone said earlier, coaches were pulling out of talks, draft picks were not working out here, and now with 50 million, we can't even pay guys to come here. This is worst case scenario and we are getting to the point when we have to start focusing on Gores. He is the constant. The only possible hope is if Holland surprises us all and plays like a #1 pick. If that happens then all of a sudden we are on to something. If he comes out and is another Ausar, then we are beginning another 4 year cycle of crappy teams that can't shoot with subpar coaching..

We will be lucky if Ron is another Ausar...
Buvkerstaff is a fine development coach for a team trying to lose 50-60 games per season for another three years.
