Wait, so why don't they just pick the top 12 teams? This makes no sense

It's to prevent issues like undefeated group of 5 teams not making the playoffs. Similar to how UCF went undefeated bit didn't get a chance in the playoffs because they didn't have a hard strength of schedule, now pretty much 1 group of 5 team gets in, but doesn't get the first round bye.

@@cheeseeygamer2997 I understand, but then should the solution be to just put an undefeated team in the top 12?

Top 4 conference champs would be in regardless 99% of any scenario. That aspect really only comes into play in deciding who gets a first round bye. It’s still essentially the top 12 teams being picked. SEC, B1G, ACC, and Big 12 champs would all be ranked in the top 12 regardless.

I think the quarter final should be played at a home game for the higher ranked seed and then the semi final should be a bowl game. Like what are they gonna do have one team win two different bowl games that’s just weird

I just watched this video and it is NOT explained very well at all!! I would like a reply if you are able to. You stated 4 teams will get a Bye. You also said 5 Conference Champions (of an assortment of Conferences, not just the Top Conferences considered) will get an Automatic Invite to the Tournament. So out of the 5 , how do they choose the 4 Bye Teams? Is it by highest ranking? Let’s say last year, Michigan, Washington, Texas & Alabama won their conference championships along with let’s say Liberty is the 5th Highest Conference Champion at #23. Does Liberty get a Bye (I doubt it) so if they don’t get a bye but they are an automatic bid, do they become the #5 Seed or do they fall into the rankings and become the #12 Seed ?? This video does not explain the 5th Champion being outside the Top 12 to know where they are placed. Also, this year does the PAC 2 get considered where there’s only 2 Teams, a good chance that Washington State goes 10-1 or 11-1 , are they considered , the PAC 2 is still a conference. So those 2 questions are not answered in this video, a Conference Champion being Rated #13 or lower , is there any shot of them being selected for a Bye and if Not , do they get the #5 Seed or fall in the Rankings and get the #12 Seed ? What about the PAC 2 What about independents such as Notre Dame not being aloud a Bye Week, but can they get the #5 Seed over the Automatic Bid of a Lower Ranking Conference Champion? Notre Dame is playing a schedule where they beat a very good Texas A&M team, also Navy and Army both undefeated teams that Notre Dame plays, Army being much better than Navy this year has Army undefeated vs Notre Dame, Army can compete with Notre Dame which Navy couldn’t. Could Army a member of the AAC with an upset of Notre Dame could Win the AAC and likely face Navy for the Championship (if the AAC has a Championship Game) So, Notre Dame if they Win out, can they be higher than a #6 seed ? Can they be a #5 seed over an automatic bid Conference Champion? Please answer these questions. This video only covered the basics which anyone could’ve made this video, since it just covered common-sense details.
