Nothing can beat the way it made me feel. This is not just a fun anime. I watched this when it came out when I was 14. Since then, I periodically watch the series again when I'm feeling down in life and it always brightens me up and motivates me. Definitely my favorite anime of all time and probably my single favorite piece of media ever made.
Honestly beyond the beautiful presentation of the series, larger than life characters, and excellent music is just how smart this series is. I’ve never seen a series so good at embracing it’s energetic and fun side while also having this level of writing, pacing, and thematic development.
Another show with amazing visuals like this is space dandy. Its basically a space version of samurai champloo and cowboy bebop. Comdey is great with solid characters. A very fun watch. Kinda like a mesh of gurren lagaan and bebop.
Gurren Lagann is THE BEST anime imo. This is the anime that I want everyone to watch, like regardless of taste, I'd go "WATCH IT." Pretty much every aspect of the anime is executed well. -Plot is phenomenal -Characters and development are memorable and well written -Animation is GODLY -OST is full of iconic bangers -Themes and messages are meaningful and have a great impact -Ending is perfect And all that is told in 27 episodes. I'm so glad this was one of my first anime. Absolutely amazing.

Gurren Lagann was among the very first let's say 5 anime I have watched and I absolutely loved it but didn't realize how "anime" this anime actually is. Everything about this over the top silly show from its underlying mature themes to its main characters being the embodyment of character development incarnate to the best consecutively appearing, increasingly amazing anime speeches to the stunning visuals, shots and directing, to the balls-to-the-wall incredible soundtrack (from which Libera Me From Hell is STILL in my top 3 favorite sinlge OSTs in all of anime, along with "Next to you" from Parasyte and "Believe me" from Steins Gate) is simply an incredible experience. I recently rewatched it again and even after having now watched approximately 150 anime (including movies) it is STILL in my top 15 and I maybe even wanna rate it higher than that. It also just gets elevated by how well everything comes completely full circle in the final episodes. The ending of the show is among my holy trinity of anime finales that I think no other shows I've seen has even come close to in terms of quality (along with Code Geass and Mawaru Penguindrum). "The lights in the sky are stars ..... star where our spiral cousins are waiting for us" might just as easily be my favorite closing line out of anything

Gurren Lagann truly shows that you dont need to be creating the most insane story with moral questions around every corner, but rather good execution of everything you want to tell. The only thing that I really didnt like was that was clearly more that the creators wanted to explore, but alas animation budgets are rather intense, and I love everything we were given.
