Thanks for the video. I ended up purchasing a backup camera from Midcity engineering. I'll be installing it next week. I love that you filmed your errors. Make's it real!
Great job and amazing video, i looked 3 times today. there is a little confuse: when you put the van gear to reversing, can the display show the rear image automaticly? i did not find you got reversing signal from anywhere.
Great video. So I have the exact same set up and once all hooked up I had no image on the radio. I did read somewhere that somebody once posted they had to get their radio programmed to except the image? Did you have to do this? Second question is you wired yours up to the cigarette lighter which is hot all the time. How are you switching views on the radio like you mentioned so you could be driving along and see what’s happening behind you without putting the van into reverse?
Yes you need to buy the programmer from mid city engineering. If you don't wire it to a wire that's always hot, you can't always look at the camera. You can just go into settings and click on camera and it will display.
Hey buddy thanks for this wonderful detailing video and the information your provide us is amazing big 👍🏼... Just got one question does this kit fit to sprinter 2018 onwards? Many thanks
Nice job! I'm a little confused about the power cable that you connected to the 12v lighter. What exactly is it providing power to? From the 12v lighter, where do you connect to? Thanks!
Ian F you splice into the cord of the 12v cigarette lighter and solder the camera’s power line to the 12v lighter power line. Basically you want to find a power source that’s only “hot” when the key is switched to “on” via the ignition
@@MathersOnTheMap Thanks Mathers!, but still confused. I have a video cable (4 pin s-video) running from the camera to the head unit. I have a fakra to RCA cable and an RCA to 4 pin s-video. So I will connect the yellow RCA cable to the fakra cable which connects to the head unit. I saw that you didn't connect the white audio cable but what I don't understand is what you connected the red cable to and what's that for? Also, I'm still confused about the power. Do you connect from the lighter directly back to the camera back at the rear of the van? Or do you connect from the lighter to somewhere on the head unit? Do you have a power cable in built into your cable that also has your video line? Sorry for the questions but I don't have the same mid-city kit so I'm winging it a bit here. Thanks again!
@@MathersOnTheMap OK I think I pieced together the mystery. Your cable that runs from the back, has a power cable built into it. Mine does not...it's just an s-video cable. I really hope that the camera gets it's power from the same cable as the brake light, or I'm screwed!
The brake light cable only has power when you apply the break though. Which is why you want to connect the camera power cable to a power source that is hot as soon as the engine is on
About to install my backup camera. Thank you for the informative video. Did you disconnect the battery when wiring? Also you said "we are going to do the OBD connector for 60 seconds" and later mention that it's to install the software from the radio. Should I have the device to install the radio software that gets plugged into the OBD? Thank you.
Did you buy the backup camera from the same place I did? (Mid-city engineering). If so the kit comes with an OBD installer, which looks like a cartridge that you plug into the part of the van that allows you to read engine trouble codes. We did not unplug the battery since we wired it to the cigarette lighter, which doesn't have any power when the engine isn't on.
@@MathersOnTheMap Thanks for the quick response. I did not buy mine through Mid-City because they didn't sell a kit for my 2013. I'll do some more research. Thank you.
Suzanne Garcia gotcha, you may have to get a different monitor. Mid city’s customer service is pretty good may be able to call them and get there thoughts
Hi, i have a question for you. I bought the same reversing camera and the LED module that was on the oryginal does not fit. Mercedes sprinter w 906 2011. Did you have any problems because in the movie I saw that you also did not like something. Please help.
I think you've wired it wrong, The power supply is powering the camera and the way you have wired it then the camera is permanently got power to it, I'd have picked the power up from when its in reverse
Hey Steven I guess you could do that, but our wiring was the recommended approach by Mid-City Engineering. Also, it allows you to view the camera at any time the key is turned on, i.e. if we hear noise and window covers are down, or while driving forward we can switch the display to see directly behind us with the camera.
Love the details you go thought and the camera shots. Picture with 1000 words.. appreciate u!!
Great instructions. Thank you.
Great job very detailed he just convince me to make sure my new van has a backup camera preinstalled keep up the good work
Appreciate the kind words! Backup camera is a must!!
Well done. I was way too intimidated to try this before watching. Many thanks.
no problem! thanks for watching!
Amazing job. Thanks

It’s automatic with the software installed on the radio display that came with the camera kit
Didnt you have to attach the power to the rear light so it only turns on when you are backing up? Did i miss that in the video?

Hey Rahul we bought one specific for 14-18 model, I think they came out with one for the newer model
Thank you so much for your quick reply... Mine is 2018 so I think this will be perfact fit for that..

Hey Diego It came with the camera you can maybe reach out to the company I got the camera from and ask for it??? 🤞🏻
