- The Thought Monster published in 1931 later became the motion picture FIEND WITHOUT A FACE (1958). Oscar nominated and Emmy Award winning Makeup FX Artist Ed French narrates a vintage tale of weird science run amok!
In Tibetan mysticism there is the belief in tulpas. They are thought forms created by concentration. Supposedly, they can become independent. On an episode of Supernatural, the Winchesters dealt with one. I have an idea for a story about one I intend to write when I have time.
Yet another excellent tale.
I have always wanted to read this, as Fiend is a favorite film of mine. Thanks for bringing it to us to enjoy.
These works of yours---all of these you have made available---are just superb in every way imaginable. They've been a great balm and source of relaxation, inspiration and entertainment for me (and many many others I have to believe)! good wishes!
I appreciate hearing that Robert. I receive the same therapy recording these things. E.E.F.
wow. The accompanying music was amazing too. Thank you.
Great story well told ...love the sinister background music
I am nearly stunned be this awesome tale. I found it earlier and chose it to be my first story of the New Year and new decade. Bravo! Excellent choice and more excellent Mr. French. Thank you and Happy New Year 2020!
Thank you, Mr. French, for all your professional, exceptionally high quality narrations. You have an even greater talent than film stars, who create characters with the benefit of our seeing their actions and expressions. You are able to vividly portray characters by means of your voice alone!
Very kind of you to say, Rick. Cheers. E.E.F.
Great, really enjoy these old horror/sci-fi stories.
Glad to hear that. Like splendid antiques, the still have charm. E.E.F.
Awesome to hear this story brought to the light of day once again. Thank you Mr. French.
Brian- Thought Monster is a bit of sci-fi antique-but entertaining. I think the movie adaptation, FIEND WITHOUT A FACE (1958) admirably enlarged its themes and brought in some plausible explanations for the mechanics of the monster. E.E.F.
edward french
Have you thought about doing The Andromeda Strain? You certainly have the voice for it.
Really a great tale, interesting. The reader sounds like orson Welles, I'm in love with his voice.
That's QUITE a compliment J J. Thanks for listening. E.E.F.
So am I! He is devine
@@Firecracker66 Hi 👋 ☺ yep, he's definitely cool.
Love it from the first sentence! Fiendish, audacious! And it’s not just monstrous but exceptionally impatient to get things going pronto! The mayor goes down with barely an honourable mention or ceremony! Who gives a damn? Even when he’s dug up and meddled with? Nope! And we don’t particularly notice when the town council gets together and gets mangled…no more spoilers! But if you are the sort of character who wearies of lengthy dramas that while clever might last several hours too long you’ll love this! EF delivers this delightful romp with impeccable neutrality. And lots of excited voices.
Another great reading!
Atmospheric and intimate.
Thanks veeganboy.......I'm glad to hear this because the goal of recording these stories is to try to not to recite them so much as share them the same way I would tell a friend a personal anecdote. What's the point of doing it any other way.....? You can read the story yourself without a narrator...... E.E.F.
A spellbinding, old-fashioned horror story straight from the pages of Weird Tales. The background music is strong and compelling. The story was eerie in itself. Long was an underrated and ignored writer of her time. 🙀
It's a fantastic story, original in nature. A mixer between science fiction, psychological, and supernatural horror that I never knew could exist- Not to mention that Amelia is describing a psychologic poltergeist, if I am not mistaken.
It's intriguing.....we're left wondering what sort of creature is this psychic vampire? Certainly not a traditional poltergeist. E.E.F.
edward french yeah, or some tentacle beast that is created by thought energy
Recently retired. Hard adjusting to this new life. Have been greatly enjoying your narratives of these stories. This one is just excellent! Thank you.
You're WELCOME @brucevaughn2886. Thanks for tuning in. E.E.F.
Listening to my playlist of EE on another restless night. I love how you choose stories I've not heard anywhere else. I hope you are well and happy my friend 💜
In TRUTH, I have a cold and that prevents me from recording anything and that does NOT make me happy. But, I'm happy you asked. Thank you. Be safe and well. Cheers. E.E.F.
@@FrenchEdward06 I understand. I've been not well since Christmas. No rush, just hoping you're better soon. We miss you 💜
"what are you going to do tonight Brain?" "Pinky, I'm going to what I do every night....tell a scary story..."
Marvelously chilling!
Thank you so much for verbalizing this tale, Mr French. I have always wanted to read it myself, but was never able to find a copy in print (I'm sure Forry Ackerman had at the March, 1930 edition of Weird Tales in his collection). Your narration has a sinister lilt to it that reminds me of Vincent Price. Kudos to you! BTW, did you ever do any physical Effects for Empire Films back in the '80's?
I worked BREEDERS, shot in New York City . It was produced by Charles Band and released by Empire Pictures in 1986. Thanks for listening to the channel! E.E.F.
Glad this popped up 2day! Happy Halloween 💀
You are such a good reader - been listening to "Rue Morgue", who is very good, but it is so good to hear your voice again. big kiss! :}
I'll check out Rue Morgue, but I don't usually go out of my way to listen to other narrators. I think a lot of them are very good. If I hear an especially good one I just want to hang the whole thing up and quit. E.E.F. ( But thanks.)
edward - i never think other people have that kind of problem if they are so good at what they do. DO NOT look up HorrorBabble/Rue Morgue. i totally forbid it. you are terrific and i want you to stay and not go away!!!!! i love listening to you. . . xxxooo alexa :}
@@feralbluee Murders in the Rue Morgue -Done Deal!
@@FrenchEdward06 “been listening to “-“ WHO is very good.” LOL must have forgotten to say say by E.A. Poe 🤭
thanks for thinking it’s a “done deal” suggestion. have a great day, Edward😋🌷🌱
For a photo taken in the 1920s, the author looks surprisingly modern.
I hope I don't die an imbecile! Goodness gracious
Yayyyy
Narration Level: Unholy
Idk man.
The title already gave away the culprit. Removed the suspense, because we already know who the killer is...
A cheap story, not worth the time.
If at all possible, skip it
