To answer your equip question, off the top of my head there are two other equipment with no equip ability: the one that enters as a copy of another equipment (metalwork of ingenuity?) and bloodthirsty blade, one that attaches to enemy creatures instead and goads the creature its attached to.
From my limited experience in Timeless, the fetchable scry lands are quite handy indeed. They make your fetchlands into potential card selection at opponent's end step without sacrificing potential interactions. Pretty decee even if you are not a deck that cares about cards in graveyards.
OMG That round 4 opp xD They failed utterly and completely and talked nonsense whole game and in the end they didnt even manage to kill themselves properly :DDD
The interaction you didn’t get to see against zoo is that Leyline of the Guildpact + Scion of Draco can easily solo a game. The leyline makes ALL of your creatures 5C, including scion and any other creatures you play. That means all of your creatures get vigilance, hexproof, lifelink, first strike, and trample. That’s the deck I’m currently playing in paper and I’ve won games on a mull to 4 where you keep leyline, scion, and 2 lands
To make isochron scepter work on modern, we need Orin’s chant. Silence is not even close as powerful, bc with t3feri you can lock them out of the game from both casting spells and attacking with creatures that ETB before turn 3/4. But silence is useless when there is a 10/12 ornitopter, or a 4/4flying lifelink vigilance trample on the other side of the table… I used to play no-stick back in time spiral 1 extended days, it was so much fun
This video was worth watching just for that game 2, since Valakut lands is a deck archtype I've always wanted to build. Shame it was on the opposing side, but it was fun to see it in action. Isochron Scepter was by far my favorite card from Mirrodin, so this video was a treat on that side, too.
44:44 The gimmick with Leyline of the Guildpact in Zoo is that they want to play a Scion of Draco on turn 2 and, because the Scion itself is blue due to the leyline, it's hexproof and you can't remove it. So do watch out for that. Fortunately, it never came up in the round.
That's a pretty cool interaction but is there any other real benefit to the Leyline? Or do you really try to mulligan to Leyline AND Draco? Domain lands are generally perfect in Modern, since fetch Triome, Shockland gets all 5 colors untapped turn two, right?
@derekcline950 I'm not a domain player but from what I understand Draco is bad on its own because it doesn't protect it self and relying on him as the center point of your deck leads to blow outs. Leyline allows Draco to be hexproof which makes your whole board unbeatable in combat/vs non boardwipes. There's a lot of builds floating around rn some I think do it well others I think are bad since you never want to draw guildpack
At 20:25 when you played scepter you put counterspell under. I think lightning bolt was the better choice as the opponent was at 12 or 4 bolts this would put pressure on the opponent and you are not as likely to stick a creature because of valukat.
M1r3: I think you could use the fetchland in play, to cycle lorian revealed; find an untapped UW source ; and hope to draw supreme verdict. Did you? Nah. But I think you had that potential draw :)
A comment I've been meaning to make for a while: Have you considered re-recording your intro and some of your ads? The jump from your newer mic setup and voice back to years ago is very noticeable. I will say tho, it's not like it's less professional or anything, just different
I’ve really been enjoying playing around with Jeskai control in pioneer with No More Lies and Lightning Helix. Feeling very jealous of Isochron Scepter in Modern, might need to switch formats to get my fix.
They have made equipment that doesn't have equip, but those have reconfigure instead. Cryptic Cloak is the only equipment without an activated attach ability. Neat that it's basically "living weapon" in that it comes with a creature. Kinda wish Sword of the Meek didn't have an equip ability.
I know you brought up the idea that you can't think of scepter of a combo piece, but is it that difficult to include one copy of reversal and some signets for the chance of it?
They actually have printed Equipment without equip costs. Besides the Reconfigure creatures (reconfigure is legally distinct from equip), there’s the commander classic Bloodthirsty Blade which you can only attach to your opponent’s creatures (and goads them), and technically Masterwork of Ingenuity doesn’t have an equip cost (it’s an equipment clone)
I was wondering if there was a Scryfall query that could answer the "no equip ability" question, turns out there is: t:equipment -(kw:equip OR kw:reconfigure)
Yey, another Scepter video! Love this card! Before watching I have a few questions: Why only one big Walker? I bet two or three Teferis or a Jace are still strong. And I'm curious for Deduce. Sounds like a card that will be underwhelming and get cut tbh
The isochron scepters are the "big walkers" in deckbuilding. You can't play too many 4+ mana effects that take time to get advantage. If you want more walkers, cut Scepter. Deduce was just a new card we wanted to try. I talk about it at the start and end of the video.
@@BoshNRoll wow, that was fast! Haven't even watched much yet xD I get that, you are more experienced than me with deck building for sure and makes sense that the scepters take those spots. Now I'm curious if they will perform as well as Walkers! Huge fan btw! I especially love your experimental builds for Modern! Shows that the format still allows for some fun builds, even after all the Horizons power creep
I think at the 20:22 mark in round two even without knowing what the opponent had I feel like holding counterspell in hand and putting bolt under the isochron was always the play. As they would have plenty of ways to kill the scepter so having bolt would give you a clock on them but not leave you to getting blown out by the scapeshift.
20:10 you are aware they could have an answer to the scepter. I think you should have imprinted bolt. Puts them on a 4 turn clock while holding deluge and counter spell.
