I'm new to this. I really want a vintage King Seiko, but I see a lot of people say it's impossible to find any replacement crystals except for plexiglass. This has made me consider buying a new one instead. Is this true? Can I just replace the crystal with something of the same measurements? Has anyone here done this with a KS?

when replacing the crystal on the watch does the thickness have to be the exact same as the original crystal as well?

No.. you can choose to have the glass stick out as much as you like.

I don't think brand matters, as long as you can find the right size crystal for your watch style you should be able to replace it

So how do I size the thickness when the crystal is missing or broken so much that it's impossible to use it?

The part about the step ledge and measuring makes no sense to me. Explain it differently.

Please explain what on earth you mean by measure the step ledge (above, below it how) and cut the ridiculous annoying music please.

The step ledge simply stops the crystal from going all the way through the case. You press the crystal in til it reaches the stop or step ledge. They just want to make sure people measure the diameter above the step ledge which will obviously be a larger diameter.
