    I am doing my first crystal replacement on a vintage Lucien Piccard and somewhere along the line of removing the old (acrylic) crystal I found a thin steel ring. I am confused as to what this is. I wouldn't have thought a gasket would be steel??? but don't know what else it would be. There was no rubber gasket in the watch???

    Thanks again for the info. I've seen the gasket kits but Im hoping to order a couple single ones closest to the size to be safe.
    I can find generic gaskets online but Im a little uncertain if I should be ordering I or L gaskets (original was flat not like "I" not sideways "H")? the naming is a little confusing.
    Also I imagine the gasket will compress to fit the 0.30mm thickness ((Case ID - Crystal OD)/2). Most gaskets seem to be 0.40mm-0.50mm so should I try to match the Case ID or crystal OD, seems these are the closest size.
    Any additional info appreciated. Thanks.

    Im changing the crystal gasket on my tag S/EL series watch that also has a plastic gasket with sapphire crystal. Im wondering if the plastic gasket will seal sufficiently or if I should be using some UV sealant or silicone grease to help seal things.
    Anybody have any more details?

    • @WatchRepairChannel
      @WatchRepairChannel  10 лет назад

      The gasket (as long as it is the correct size) should be sufficient. You do not need UV sealant for this kind of fitting and silicon grease is not relevant for fitting glasses. :)

    What is the proper tolerance between glass diameter and a case ? Is it exactly the same size or the glass is slightly bigger ? I need exactly a tolerance maybe you know that because I'm making custom case and I need to know what size it need to be :) Thanks !

      If you are making a custom case, make it the same as a known watch, then use the glass for that size.

    Hi mark another fantastic video but i always struggle to find the wright size glass, gasket seal im using a well known retailer on line for parts. I use a digital vernier to get a class and seal but i am worried if the class drops out or not water proof. It be easy if their web site was more easyer to use best wishers ady

    • @WatchRepairChannel
      @WatchRepairChannel  10 лет назад

      The gaskets have two measurements - the smaller one is the size of glass you need to order the larger one is the inside diameter of the watch bezel.
      Measure the watch bezel first and then choose a gasket based on this measurement - then with that gasket see the smaller of the two measurements for the correct glass size.

    I find your videos extremely educational. I work for a jeweler and am responsible for watch repair. I came across a Hattori VD85 and I'm having trouble setting the day of the week. I've replaced the movement but I'm not sure how to index the day-of-the-week hand. Is there a procedure to reinstall the hands?
    Thanks in advance,
