I find it awesome that Miss Copeland could have chosen any genre she wanted. Classically trained by two parents who were classically trained. But for some unknown reason she chose to sing the blues. That's a testament of what this music does to you and how it brings you in keeps you in. Hats off Ms. Copeland.
It's damn shame that an American institution like the Blues doesn't get the same media recognition and deep appreciation it truly deserves.. This is one of the best duets that most people don't have the pleasure of knowing about..
I love this duet so damn much, that is my most important part of the DVD, together with B. B. King apresentation. Shemekia sings A LOT and Robert Cray is my idol!!! Perfect!!! Love the blues!!!
I love this song! Both voices powerful and unique. I got to see Mr. Cray up close one time at a concert.(in the old days when one could stand in front of the performer). I stool right in front of him the entire show! I think I got his sweat on me!! It was an awesome night!!
Yeah, "Lightning in a Bottle"! Love what Dr.John had to say about Shemekia. Any musician/singer that can give the good Doctor goose bumps is something to behold!
This performance originally from DVD "Lightning in a Bottle" From 2004. Fell in love with this version as soon as I heard it. Band TIGHT! 2 Great Vocalists, Drummer is unconscious (also the arranger), Horns on point. Keb Mo on rhythm & Robert Cray on lead showing that in the blues, less is more. This cover does the original proud.
the dynamics of BBB's 1961 record have rarely been equaled.Crays voice is stellar.. so if you want to compare.. that is where to look..in the way the original grows... and when BBB' opens his throat.. then stand back. I think this is a terribly respectful and well done cover !
Great song and yes Robert's still got it!Saw him in concert late 2008 at Horseshoe Casino and he's gotten even Better with age! Sounds better in person than his CD's,not many you can say that about, still The Smokin Gun! Love you Bobby Baby! msstevie xoxoxo
more Shemedia Copeland with Robert Cray; but, I guess, telling by listening to her music, that she can find other guitarists . . . still, this is great, and we need to see more!
Pity The Fool] I pity the fool, I pity the fool, I pity the fool, I pity the fool that falls in love with you, and expects you to be true, I pity the fool Look at the people, I know you wonder what they're doing They're just standing there, watching you make a fool out of me Look at me people I know you wonder what they're doing They're just standing there, watching you make a fool out of me I pity the fool that falls in love with you I pity the fool, I pity the fool who falls in love with you You'll break his heart one day then you'll laugh and walk away I pity the fool
This is a cool version and I love Shemekia Copeland, but there were at least 2 Bobby Blue Bland songs performed during the concert and back in '03 he was very much alive. I wonder why he wasn't there.
THEY DID A LOVELY JOB BEAUTIFUL BUT THERE'S NOTHINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG LIKE THE BOBBY BLUE BLAND. I LOVE THE ORIGINAL. BOBBY BLUE AND HIS VELVET GOLDEN VOICE...
First of all!!!! They weren't trying to be like Mr. Bland; And I can tell you know nothing of the Blues, 2. Robert Cray; Is an Historian himself of the Blues, What he was doing..... Is Called paying Homage! I need too say that again, He is paying Homage too All the greats that came before him, And 3. But not least, Can you tell me who is the Father of the Blues? let me answer it for you; ( I know you will go to the fake net and look this up) but I'm not!!!! sike!!!! And if you say B.B. king; I'm sorry your wrong!
Dimitri.. you are right. paying homage..honoring . They did it their way.. with 2 singers.. but they also paid attention to the dynamics of the original 1961 recording. Nobody can be somebody else..they're already taken. Moor-ena is fine loving BBB more than water.. and I do too. But it takes nothing away from anybody to acknowledge Cray;s Greatness cause that's what you are seeing.. Greatness.

@MrBluesrules Don't completely knock fast food. Sometimes you get some good some stuff. But I understand what you are saying. The dumbing down of Americans extends itself to art and cultural too.. Especially art and cultural it seems. Look at what passes as music now days. We have more entertainers a fewer artists now. What's the difference? Artists are about the craft while entertainers are about mass appeal.

Tip of the hat to Ms. Copeland. Not every lady can out-sing the horn section. You go, girl!
What a great production. Outstanding talent all around.
I pity the 11 fools who gave this a thumbs down.
Two living Blues Singers who I dig and respect. Perfect combination
This was an awesome performance. It gave me chill bumps. The Blues will never die.
Pure Bliss and Blues Joy right here with Robert Cray and Shemekia Copeland !!!
I love this duet so damn much, that is my most important part of the DVD, together with B. B. King apresentation. Shemekia sings A LOT and Robert Cray is my idol!!! Perfect!!! Love the blues!!!
Слушая и глядя на видео-думаю, мне повезло, что я это слышу и вижу! Потрясающе! Я, люблю этих великих исполнителей мирового уровня! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💥💥💥💥💥

OMG what a voice!!!!!!!!!
I Pity the Fool, I like to hit those lyrics up one day! Go Robert and Shemekia

Arthur Gipson martin Scorsese is

You said it Arthur Gipson. BB's song. This version does big justice. Buddy Guy's rendition is also topnotch!

This is filmed beautifully. Robert Cray is a master
Simply brilliant
2021 and this song is still as fresh as the day it was performed
more Shemedia Copeland with Robert Cray;

I just loved the Ann Peebles track but this is also EXCELLENT !

Let me tell you the lightning in a bottle movie is one of the greatest things I've ever seen in my life I want that DVD to run on a loop at my funeral

+Nobody you know
Lay back close your eyes and enjoy.....
ATHENS!! Very nice!!!
Would like some more of this! Hey Shamika call me baby! ️ ❤️
Dynamics is everything in this song. During the intro the stupid piano player can't hang back... messing up an otherwise nearly perfect job -
A stage full of excellent musicians! And who is that drummer? He kicks ass!
I thinki young Steve Jordan
un grand avec une grande chanteuse ( son papa était une fine gachètte de la six cordes )
Don't miss the end!
i first saw robert cray i milwaukee,
the year ?
um, 1983, i think,
i met hem and richard cousins,
i told them both they would be stars.
❤
can't find it on spotify

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
##TBT
See Film 'LIGHTNING in a Bottle' Produced by Martin Scorsese
Shemeika Copeland is very good and I know her dad was proud but Johnny was a bad man one of the all time greats
By FAR the very BEST version of this song!!! Shemekia absolutely SCHOOLS Mr. Cray!!
You must never heard of the original by Robert Calvin Bland
You stepped in what? Shemekia has some pipes but Cray is King of the Blues!!!
@@htimsr101 Might that, then, make Shamekia the current Queen of the Blues?
@@mrstanbmw No I haven't, but I'll give it a try. Thanks for the tip!
@@mrstanbmw very good, of course, but I prefer the back and forth between the male and female voices for this song.
I apologized..Your absolutely right...You don't get the Fiiiine cuisine that is Shemekia on fast food radio.
Great cover but would have rather heard Robert sing this solo.
alguien que suba la letra...?? graciasssss
@MrBluesrules

Decent cover but can't hold a candle to Bobby Blue or BB.
I pity da fool who owe Mr. T royalties.
Mr T owes the royalties. Song written before he was born. Educate before you hate.
This song was done by Bobby Blue Bland in 1961 you big dummy
