I've been waiting and hoping for this video! My dad was stationed in Seoul and had guard duty along the DMZ in 1962-63 shortly before I was born. I have a couple of his pictures from Korea and have always been fascinated by them. I'm going to have to show him your video. Thanks for ALL of your informative and fun video travelogues of your UWC. I, like so many, love to travel and truly appreciate being able to join you vicariously.
It's a different world out there. I appreciate the days where there is nothing planned for the day. I can edit videos or just rest. All that go go can be a lot. You look like you are handling it well.
Hi. I appreciated your video of the DMZ. I taught English as a Second Language there for a year in 94/95. It's amazing how much it has changed. I did go to the DMZ with the USO and was able to step into North Korea in the conference room. They had the same flag competition go on inside the conference room as outside. Your Korean videos are bringing my memories back. Thank you for sharing.
Nancy and Mike, thank you so much for taking us along on your trip to DMZ. I think this was the most fascinating tour that you’ve taken us along. I really look forward to all your videos. Thank you again.
Thank you for taking the time to do these wonderful videos. You are definitely enjoying this experience. In 1985 my boyfriend(now husband) drove through no-mans land through East Germany into West Berlin. We were young and adventurous and crossed through check point Charlie into East Berlin with a 12 hour pass West Berlin at that time was a beacon of wealth Where as east Berlin was full of buildings with bullet holes. No tour available. Upon our return we found out 2 weeks prior a person attempting escape was shot dead by eastern guards. Experiences like this stay with you for life and reminds us of the horror of war. Freedom is a privilege Looking forward to more of your adventures
Wow. Thank you so much for sharing a bit about yourself and your experience. So much of this trip we are taking will remain with us forever. We have much to be thankful for.
Visited the Joint Security Area in the mid '80's. Very sobering experience. Tourism has clearly developed and increased since those days. Thanks for the snap shot.
DMZ very sad full of sorrow, unhappiness, grief, hardship, and divided families I watched Tread the Globe visit this place a month ago yesa very, very sad situation please pray for World Peace and Freedom for all people of the world🌏
Fascinating video. My husband, like Mike, would've gone into the tunnel but like Nancy, I wouldn't! Were either one of you nervous being at the DMZ? For your consideration, would you consider a video or addressing your criteria for cruise sponsored vs non cruise sponsored tours (I'd be afraid we'd book a tour on our own and then miss the ship!) and also trip insurance (did you use the same company for this cruise as you would a 7 night cruise?). Thank you for all of your videos, I look forward to all of them! --Susan
Thanks a lot for the Great comment, and the great suggestion. We'll put it on the list to discuss those options of crew sponsored versus third party tours. If you watch most of our videos You'll see most of our tours are third party tours and we've had really good luck with them, except for one which you'll see in our upcoming Luanda Angola video. 😳
The DMZ is a very serious area, but also has become a “touristy” thing to do. It is quite safe. Follow the rules. Do as you are asked. Then it’s safe. Soldiers will board the bus with assault rifles, taking your passports for checking. Again, do as you are told, be polite and respectful. There used to be a dress code, but I don’t know if that is still in place. If you follow the rules, it is safe. Not to worry. I’ve been there three times and will be there again soon.
Going back to South Korea at least is a wonderful experience. One of our world Cruisers was adopted as a baby from Korea and went back on this cruise to the orphanage it's a great story
That was absolutely fascinating. Mike you could become a teacher! You two are so much fun to travel with-even from my living room! Love this video! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for the great history on the Korea and the DMZ. You both do such an amazing job with the videos; it is such a pleasure to watch you both and the experiences you are having!
So interesting an opportunity with the DMZ. As you were explaining the playground next door to an area of mourning, it reminded me of visiting Knock IRE and all the tents of people selling relics, a car raffle going on amongst these devout praying people. Still can't explain my thoughts about it
It is there so that parents are willing to visit with their children. And they will grow up remembering the visit to the DMZ. It is important as the grandparents, who remember the country’s division, are now dying, to pass along those memories to the next generation.
I get so excited to see all your new videos! This year I decided to fill my life with positive videos and positive social media. You guys are right up there for feeding my positive vibes. Thank you !!! 💐
Wow, what a fascinating experience. Something I would have never considered before but definately would now. Thanks for sharing. Nancy, I really like your top you have on. ❤your favourite Aussie follower 🦘
thank you sooooo much for sharing your world cruise with us! I am learning so much seeing the world through your videos. I know it has to end but I wish it didn't. God bless you..
Actually was able to go years ago to the JAS, including the Freedom House - it was very interesting but a bit creepy. But never saw the amusement park or the gondola ride. Very good video - thanks for sharing!
I couldn't have done the tunnel walk. 11% grade is steep. The ones I've seen marked on roads are usually 8 or 9%. It's the being stooped over for the walk. It would be days until I could stand straight again.
First of all, I want to say I enjoy your videos. Question: What are all of the apps you've used on this cruise that has been most helpful? Can you give me a list? Also, what are the most helpful items, clothing, etc, that you have used on most of the cruise? I should have taken notes. Please and thank you.
For apps, our biggest have been Google Translate and Google Maps. We also like to look at CruiseMapper to see where our cruise ship is. As for helpful items, the magnetic shelves and hooks are extremely valuable and our travel clothes wash and wear beautifully have been our go to clothing.
Don’t drink the tourist alcohol. It’s generally not very good. I’ve been in the blue building at the JSA twice. It’s smaller than you would think from the outside. Everything inside looks like something from the 50’s. It looks as if none of the furniture has been changed and not been painted. It’s shabby and dated and small. There is barely room to walk around in between the tables and chairs. I imagine at some point people will be able to visit the JSA at some point.
Feels so wrong that there are people getting killed to cross a border that has been heavily commercialised. And tourists are gawking. Feels in poor taste, my grandfather fought on that soil. I don’t know what he’d think of a gift shop there.
We agree, it was very different at the embarkation area to go into the DMZ than we expected. Nancy's father also served in the Korean War there on that soil we agree it was kind of strange
This is so incredibly interesting, and so educational. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Please visit Seoul korea next time! :) Me and my husband love to watch your videos! One day we can cruise all over the world!
We would love to visit Seoul Korea.😀
It's a different world out there. I appreciate the days where there is nothing planned for the day. I can edit videos or just rest. All that go go can be a lot. You look like you are handling it well.
Thank you so much. And a good rest day is imperative from time to time.

Wow. Crazy how it is still considered an active war. Didn’t know that. My uncle was in the Korean War.
Nancy's father's also served in the Korean war. Still a lot going on from that conflict
Visited the Joint Security Area in the mid '80's. Very sobering experience. Tourism has clearly developed and increased since those days. Thanks for the snap shot.

Love following your world cruise. Alberta 🇨🇦
Thanks for watching our Northern neighbor, as you know we live in Michigan
This reminds me of going into East Germany (Berlin) when the Berlin Wall was still standing.
Yes.
Wow Thank You Mike , I've enjoy your knowledge of the DMZ , GREAT VLOG !! and of course your view too Nancy !! 😂😂
Thanks so much!
Fascinating video. Thanks for sharing. My MIL is from SK, hubby hasn’t been since he was a baby. So this has been extra interesting for us.
Going back to South Korea at least is a wonderful experience. One of our world Cruisers was adopted as a baby from Korea and went back on this cruise to the orphanage it's a great story
My late wife was a huge history buff. She would have wanted to meet you both. I want to meet you both and tell you about her. I am a big fan!
Thank you! Hopefully, we will meet in the future.
That was absolutely fascinating. Mike you could become a teacher! You two are so much fun to travel with-even from my living room! Love this video! Thank you for sharing!
You are so welcome. And we thank you for all your kind words.
Thanks Mike for the history lesson. I so enjoyed it! My nephew lives in Seoul. He works for the government. He loves it there. ❤
Thanks so much.
Oops sorry that was for your ad!!!!!Wow didnt expect a carnival atmosphere!

Wow, just wow. Looks like a humbling and incredible experience
It really was.
So interesting an opportunity with the DMZ. As you were explaining the playground next door to an area of mourning, it reminded me of visiting Knock IRE and all the tents of people selling relics, a car raffle going on amongst these devout praying people. Still can't explain my thoughts about it
Yes, it was certainly an unusual site and gives you pause to think about things.
It is there so that parents are willing to visit with their children. And they will grow up remembering the visit to the DMZ. It is important as the grandparents, who remember the country’s division, are now dying, to pass along those memories to the next generation.
Wow! Amazing video! Thank you for sharing ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
Am loving following your journey. Learning so much. Love your focus on local culture through street food and your pro tips.
Thanks so much!

My husband spent a lot of time here during the Vietnam War installing radio towers
Oh wow! Thank you for sharing and thank you for following along on our journey.
Think I spotted my friends,Lou and,Gracie on your tour !! Yes there on your World tour!!!!🎉😂😂
That’s awesome!👍🏻
Actually, the DMZ itself and the buffer zones are variable. It’s not a strict 4 km, 4 km, 4 km. Some of those areas are not as deep.
Interesting
Interesting, thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Wow, what a fascinating experience. Something I would have never considered before but definately would now.
Thanks for sharing.
Nancy, I really like your top you have on.

This is Nancy here. Thanks so much for all your kind words. We appreciate them. 🥰Also thanks for following along with us on our journey.
Thanks for our class. Is there a mid term. I’m ready.
😂😂😂
Small correction, WWII ended in 1945, not 1947. :) Great video series though. I was stationed in Korea in 1998.
Why did I miss speak and say that, didn't realize that. Thank you for noting it
Our son was stationed there in the late 90’s.
I’m sure you were very concerned for his safety. Would have been scary.
thank you sooooo much for sharing your world cruise with us! I am learning so much seeing the world through your videos. I know it has to end but I wish it didn't. God bless you..
Thanks so much. We feel like we’re getting in the homestretch of this trip, but the videos will continue. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the great explanation of the Korean War!
You are so welcome!
Actually was able to go years ago to the JAS, including the Freedom House - it was very interesting but a bit creepy. But never saw the amusement park or the gondola ride. Very good video - thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much for watching. And thank you for following along with us on our journey.
What an interesting vidéo, I had never heard of the DMZ zone, just want to go and visit it myself. Thank you
Glad we could introduce something new to you. Thanks so much for following along with us on our journey.
Thanks for sharing. I was stationed in Pusan in the late 70s but I didn't visit the DMZ.
Thanks for sharing a bit about yourself. I’m sure that was a rather scary time for you.
I couldn't have done the tunnel walk. 11% grade is steep. The ones I've seen marked on roads are usually 8 or 9%. It's the being stooped over for the walk. It would be days until I could stand straight again.
This is Nancy here and I did not walk that tunnel. Mike did it on his own.😉
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing. 😀
Glad you enjoyed it
This was fascinating!

Great stalling techniques!
Mike. I would be able to walk standing up in the tunnel as I am only 4 feet 10. Only benefit for being short.
I love that!
Absolutely fascinating ❤
Thank you!
Such a fascinating video 😊
Thanks so much!
Great video, awesome excursion!!
Thank you very much!
So very informative, great vlog
Thanks so much for your kind words.

Interesting place to visit but likely more important to US than other countries
TMZ is not of interest to me
But enjoy your vlogs
Thanks for watching!
Is the JSA point where President Trump crossed over?
It is where he met with the North Korean leader yes
Feels so wrong that there are people getting killed to cross a border that has been heavily commercialised. And tourists are gawking.
