In this video: ''The Deeper Meaning Behind The Spiritual Animals In Red Dead Redemption 2 Explained! (RDR2 Secrets)''
Do you guys like it that Rockstar implemented this into the game? Let me know down below!
WhizL yea it feels like ur living inside the game not just playing it
I have The Butcher Creek Quest recorded you can use it for video the Butcher Creek Mystery thing
Hey there man,I personally think that The Buck symbolizes St.Hubertus the Patron Saint of Hunters,He is often depicted in paintings with a Buck or a Deer.Seeing as Arthur(aside from Charles) is the main hunter of the gang and of course Hunting is one of the more important aspects of the game and that Rockstar implemented a lot of Catholic Theology in the 1st game and now in this,From the gang's dog being named "Cain" taken from the story of Cain and Abel,Cain being the sinful brother,The Wolf may symbolize the Evil side of Arthur or the player "Wolves in sheep's clothing".
@@johnkenneth3602 Omg awesome, good to know, thank u for this super comment dude!
WhizL dude I got goosebumps when I saw these bc those moments ARE truly spiritual reflections of us too in a sense, not just Arthur.
Arthur was honestly an amazing video game character
Joseph Green I liked him Waymore than John Marston And I felt really bad when he died When John died I was more mad but when Arthur died it was more Sad Hands-down probably the greatest storyline in history
I freaken loved that guy
Michael Padgett nah listen this game had one of the best stories I’ve ever played but ya have to understand that nothing tops a story like God of War
@@ethandragonborn god of war aint shit but hoes n tricks sucks on these nuts and licks the dicks
Tizona76 Spider-Man had a fantastic story too. Had me in tears at the end. RDR2, God of War, and Spider-Man aren’t definitely top 3 for GOTY
Choosing to feed on those around you for survival - Coyote , Villain.
Choosing to live in harmony with those around you - Deer, Hero.
It's pretty simplistic symbolism.
Thats what i was thinkinh
what about the eagle?
Living in harmony with those around you is not the definition of a hero. Besides deers fight all the time.

That's actually a really good idea! I wish more games would do something like that.

Tristan King So what you’re saying is... you found Gavin?
That got an audible laugh out of me. Nice.
haha. too bad arthur is bad to tell gavin's friend he found gavin.
i got dutch saying he has a plan

when you play as John, if you visit Arthur’s grave, the black coyote or the buck will be sitting near it depending on your karma when you played as him, then it’ll wander off when you arrive, they are both not scared of you and will not run, nor can you shoot them, nice touch I noticed

You were at a level that was above good or bad honor..... I'm amazed how someone could achieve this level of amazingness..... Teach me senpai.
lUmBaGO
@ripvanwinkle9935 To get this, in Act 1 of Red Dead Literature club, you have to pick all options that aim more towards Uncle. Remember, when writing poems to him, use words like Rum, Whiskey, Sleep, Snore, Complain, and finally Lumbago to apeal the poem to Uncle, in the end of Act 1, Uncle will confess his love for the player, to get this ending, just choose reject, upon rejection, uncle will start drinking and complaining about Lumbago in your sleep, truly, the best psychological horror game, that ending still haunts me to this day...
May I add, in the end of the game. Depending if you got the bad or good ending. The bad ending shows the wolf eating the deer, I feel like the quote “There’s a good man inside you, wrestling with a giant” is another reference to Arthur believing he’s a bad person and solely a killer. If you live like this while playing as Arthur, those thoughts over come him and dominate his real good nature. That’s why the wolf is eating the deer, the bad and unhonourable behaviorist just beat the good ones.
When does it ever eat the buck??

Let’s clear something up: IT’S A COYOTE! When you go to the shack in Bayall Edge, Lemoyne, you can see paintings based on your honor.
High honor: Bucks and eagle
Low honor: Coyote and vultures
It’s also too small to be a wolf, and a coyote is more logical.
I don't know why people think it's a wolf. The ears are very perky triangle and not dull on the top of the ears. It's small and has a lanky snout contrary to wolves.
@Tobi buck and doe are gendered terms for deer. A buck is a male deer and a doe is a female deer.
@@gavinsfriend5836 have you found gavin??

Good Arthur is the canon version of the game, his good ending seemed more like staying true to the game because it's called red dead redemption and Arthur's redemption was saving John and his family even if micah shoots him he still died knowing that he did what he wanted to do he died getting his redemption narratively it's the canon version for me
imho the ending makes sense with both low and high honor as long as Arthur chooses to help John in the end
You said it yourself Arthur redeemed himself for saving John, Arthur says it a bunch I cannot stress this enough but he is a bad man, red dead 1 John says he WAS a bad man Arthur wanted nothing to do with redeeming himself he saw himself in John towards the end a young guy with a family to take care off it was the slightest bit a good left in him Arthur is evil end of story there’s nothing around it he is and will always be a bad guy but a good character
Tbh if you go back for the money Micah basically wins because it seems like what he was saying to Dutch about Arthur being a selfish unloyal prick is true
Micah shot you?
That asshole just left me on the hill to die on my own after Dutch walked away.
@@mattmark94 not really the "good" version make more sense
I personally suspected the wolf of being a coyote but it could be a wolf. The reason I went with the idea of a coyote was because the coyote is more or less the Native American version of the devil. The devil stalks Arthur’s soul, the storm symbolizing chaos and the darkness symbolizing paths to goodness long lost. At the end the canine enters into a dark cave, which I interpret as the devil has claimed his due and heading back to hell.
Just makes more sense to me then a wolf. A wolf is an honorable animal and a teacher in Native American lore and also symbol of courage and strong family bond. Also, a lone wolf is a miserable animal, it’s heart sick for a pack and often seeks out packs. That’s hardly a good representation of Arthur for he’s got a pack and he’s been a loyal provider. It’s Dutch who’s the lone wolf more or less in this sense, he’s miserable, his packs left him and only pack he has are a bunch of jackals looking for scraps over family.
I had no idea on the stage symbolism with native lore. That dose indeed make more sense. My thoughts on the stage was it made me think of the story of a catholic saint, Saint Hurbrtus the patron saint of hunters. His story involves the vision of a stage with a cross in its horns and redemption from a wicked life. That being said however, the native version makes more sense in regards to sacrifice.
Added - “The Navajo believe that if you have a coyote sighting, it is a warning to turn around; traveling on as intended will not lead to good things.” I don’t know if the adds any value but I happened upon it and decided it’s worth adding. Granted this is more about sightings then dreams but it is something.
I don't know much about Native American lore, but I do know animals, and this is most certainly a coyote. Just how it moves, the size of it and the general shape of his body and head all says coyote. So I definitely agree with your interpretation!
Gir 73 From what I remember in regards to the lore - The coyote is a trickster, a cunning animal who delights in making mischief for the sake of mischief. It also a symbol of greed, vanity and/or pride and foolishness. That more or less is an accurate symbolism for the dark side of Arthur. Anyway, the coyote is also a favorite animal for those who practice bad medicine and especially skin walkers.
I thought it was a coyote because it’s small and built like one
Yessssss!!!! XD
SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILER SPOILERS
I would say the interpretation of the Wolf still implies for Arthur, he is absolutely a miserable bastard and heart sick for a pack.
He lost his son, and potential wife years ago, in his mind his only real shot at a family and a normal life. He said himself it hardened him, and he became a worse person after that. And now he is surrounded by jackals who want nothing more than the next adrenaline rush or need his help for something. He lives his entire life in service to people who range between semi-Grateful and Disdainful of his efforts. And the leader of said pack bounces between those two emotions every other day. No one really gives a shit about Arthur except Hosea, Tilly, Mary-Beth, The Marstons, Sean, and Lenny. Three out of eight die before Arthur meets his fate. And even the Marstons take some time to warm up to Arthur.
I'm not saying your wrong, because I think the Cave is supposed to represent hell like u said, but the idea of him being a Wolf still fits.
I just want to live in this game

It’s a wolf
@aceofnades8389 its a coyote. In fact its the same model as the legendary coyote. You can go ahead and check the in game compodium. Wolves are much, MUCH larger and have rounded features.
Also, the symbolism of the coyote derives from the americas mythology. Coyotes are the poster child of trickery, theivery and selfishness. irl they are mostly seen alone and rarely hunt. They are primarely scavengers. Thats why its paired with the vultures in these visions. They steal from other animals. Wolves symbolism is held in a much higher regard in the americas vs europe and other regions.
I get that people want it to be a wolf so bad cause it fits their belief that low honor arthur is a "badass lone wolf" belief or whatever....but theres a reason why R* chose the coyote. Its time for people to accept that.

Arthur is the best protagonist in a single player ever man. I never sympathized with any character ive played with as much as Arthur. I started off as a bad dude, literally racking up 1k bounties in every state. But as the story progressed, I saw how good of a man he was, then tread really carefully and became an honorable outlaw by the end. This game really makes u feel bad for killing everyone lol
I literally told my self many times "I'm gonna kill this npc" yet they start begging and I quite literally free them lol. Never seen such realism in an npc

Because.... SPOILER

The coyote (or wolf, don't know) appears when you play a bad guy whith the character, ok.
But, the deer apperas when you play the good guy.
So at the clip to 1:37 to 1:50. The scene apperas when Morgan die, and you can see, the wolf go right into a dark cave, so because Arthur was a bad guy, like we said before.
So, dark cave, makes me think of hell, darkness, because Arthur was a bad guy.
But, when you die and you see the deer, it means you are a good guy, so at the clip to 2:20 to 2:34 (this clip appears when Arthur die, but when you play the GOOD guy), you can see the deer see you and is like i tell to you "join me", and he goes to the sun. The sun, the light makes me think of the paradise because Arthur was a good guy.
That my point :)

I got the wolf the entire game except for the finale which made it so much more impactful to me: I didn't know it had to do with honour and I thought that seeing the deer for the first time meant Arthur was at peace with himself while dying.
It’s not a wolf it is a coyote
It is a wolf.
Prophet The Dragon it’s is a coyote because it is small and wolfs are bigger than that
It's a coyote. You moron
Maybe you right: The coyote plays a central role in the mythology of many North American Indian tribes. It is usually depicted as a cunning trickster.
If you think that is a wolf you'll never get the zoölogist trophy.
0:40 this gives me shivers every time
I love how the characters change, and I think Arthur is my new favorite rockstar protagonist. I love how at the end he knows he’s dying but he just tries to help the gang members who aren’t blindly following Dutch and doesn’t care if he dies, he risked his life to save John, and John wouldn’t be the man he is without Arthur.
“When the time comes, you better run and don’t look back”
Same thing John tells Abigail and jack right before he dies.
Maybe it has something to do with the Strange man. His room had paintings if eagle, deer, wolf's and vulture. Just saying

I feel the best representation of Arthur is to see the wolf for the first half of the game, then the deer towards the end.
I think it's a Buck and a Coyote. Which would make more sense in the context of Arthurs life? A buck or stag would represent the good side of Arthur, a protector a gentle, honorable soul. While the Coyote would be very serious, inconsiderate of the lives of others. Not gentle but ruthless.
The mysterious man and his paintings give us further confirmation. You see clearly that the creatures are smaller, their heads hanging down while they lurk for their opportunity. A wolf would represent pride and strength. There is no pride in being dishonorable. Clearly, this is just my opinion, and those can differ. I don't think yours is incorrect. These are just my thoughts on the subject.
The ears are very perky triangle and not dull on the top of the ears. It's small and has a lanky snout contrary to wolves. So yes, people who say it's a wolf are wrong.
These scenes really got to me as well
Me before i played:
„Im going to be the badest Killer ever!“
When i was playing:
„Oh my god i cant do anything evil“
90% honor playthrough... wow am i really that kind
Arthur deserves a deer 🦌 in the cutscenes, because he sacrificed for everyone 👌🏽🌅.
Don't know about anyone else, but these visions + Arthur coming to terms with his sickness, reminded me of the movie Gladiator and the corn field, because it implied the main character would die no matter what.
Fun fact there’s (kind of) three endings. If you have mid karma it’s the same as low karma ending but the animal is eagle
What I love about these dreams is that the wolf dreams always gave me goosebumps while the deer dreams made me feel at ease.
Got the deer right the way thru
SPOILER
Man, I saw a easter egg in epilogue 1 that is pretty cool. When the chapter starts, we ride with John and his family with a wagon to the city, and in the way Jack starts to talk about a book and mentions the name of the king Arthur, then John says "yeah, i kinda like that names". After that, a deer pass in front of the wagon. On the first time, I just thought it was a coincidence, but I searched on youtube and found that the deer appears every time in that precise moment. Found that quite interesting and it made sense with your explanation. The question is: If you have a bad behavior with Arthur, instead of a deer, will we see a wolf in that scene?
In my first play through I felt like killing everyone Bc I was bored lmao but when I was in the epilogue I don’t think it was a wolf but I will see and tell you
@@Seandoodoo Ok man, pretty cool! I have a video in my channel in portuguese that shows that deer. Never saw one with a wolf
also, the last scene when arthur dies, the wolf walks into a dark cave, representing arthur's soul be damned by his dishonorable deeds. the deer, however, wanders off towards the sun, representing arthur's soul be redeemed for his good deeds and helping john get away and start over.
SO THAT'S WHY I HAD THE DEER BEATING THE GAME YESTERDAY!

Red dead 2 has no right being as good as it is. Honestly this my favorite game ever
Wolf and deer depend on your honor system wolf being outlaw and deer being honorable
Youre always an outlaw, not if you are the wolf your an outlaw. If you had the deer you were an outlaw too. But they symbolize if you were a good outlaw, or bad.
You were an outlaw regardless of Honor. Low Honor means Arthur doesn’t care. High Honor means Arthur aimed to redeem himself.
I think the deer is honor and heroism, and the wolf is dishonor and black, symbolizing Arthur's "black lung"
Chapter six is my favorite chapter. Once arthur gets sick, he views life differently. You get more honor opportunities than any of the other chapters and it shows arthur almost repent for past sins. Arthur finally understands that he has a heart and can think for himself(if high honor)
Arthur is the best Rockstar game protagonist, dare I say the best video game protagonist.
*Dare I say the best protagonist in ANY media.*
Late to the game here, but I literlly just said something very similar to my fiance. Arthur is my favorite character across all media. Roger clark did outstanding portraying him. I'm glad he won some awards for his work.
Dare I suggest the possibility of a t.v series, i hope they cast him cause itll be hard to hear or see someone whos not roger clark be arthur.
I all ways got the coyote
I got the wolf 99 percent of the game until the final one, I finally got the deer
But did Micah shot Arthur in your ending
No
I got the ending where Arthur looks at the sunset
I have only gotten the wolf which I am very proud of.
Arthur is my all time favorite character.
Chapter 1-5 Low Honor
Chapter 6 High Honor
Seems more in line with the story, and maybe Arthur did some self reflection after the doctor's visit, and the dialogue of Arthur going soft only really makes sense if you've been a bad person before, and I believe it makes the endong sadder, after seeing so much self development and change
Song always hits me.
Lol dont think so bud,the coyote is symbolism for feeding off the misfortune of others,as coyotes do which are also scavengers when they cant kill their own food,as the deer feeds only off the land
John Kenneth sorry bud I don’t think that’s right at all you pull a lot of meaning out of nothing
The dogs name is just Cain
Nothing more to it
John Kenneth also it’s not a wolf it’s a coyote
I gotta admit the coyote and the lightning striking is badass as hell. I feel like a better dear ending would be him fighting off the coyote. But instead of him finishing off the coyote, he just walks into the sun/horizon.
Few people noticed this but the high honor music has the leitmotif of rdr1’s theme. The notes: E A, (A E B C A E B C), E G. I feel like this music is supposed to give off the vibe that Arthur has found redemption. The notes I put in the background is the little melody that plays in the background in both versions.
The spiritual explanation of the deer was spot on bro. I've had legitimate dreams of deer of my own before. It's a majestic experience for sure.
how bro
OMG I got the wolf ending but I for sure thought the wolf was foreshadowing John leaving the gang...
I like wolves or coyotes so It felt badass when I saw it
I started seeing the coyote for 60% of the game then after that i saw the deer.
i just thought the wolf symbolized the impending disease Arthur had and thought that that was what everyone else saw as well, never knew a deer was possible lmao rip
For almost the entire game, I played as a bad guy. I had pretty low honor throughout...until I got to the part where Arthur was diagnosed with TB. After that cutscene, I started helping people and doing good things, and pretty much became a good guy. I redeemed myself. It felt really good, because it was like Arthur was turning over a new leaf.
A wolf appears if you became a True outlaw.
A Deer appears if you make good acts like helping people.
This is a deep meaning.

You have completely overthought this but I respect your passion. Beautiful game to be sure.
An interesting pattern is most people had the wolf for a bit but by the end they get the deer. Now not to say everyone played this way, but seeing as I followed the same pattern, it’s a testament to Rockstar’s ability to immerse you into the game world. When my Arthur was diagnosed with TB, I was devastated. I continued to play for another hour or so, and when it came time to walk away, I had to force myself to disconnect from the game, and realize that I did not have TB myself and that Arthur isn’t real. With the guidance of such likeable characters such as Rains Fall, Charles Smith, and even some of the ladies around camp, it felt like it was my duty to be a better man in the game. I stopped robbing people, started seeking out and killing bad men, I provided more for the camp, and helped everyone I could. The excitement of brutal murder and the robbery of innocent people had worn off. I feel that in the first two chapters, you’re so cooped up from being in the mountain with little control, that when you finally get shoved out in the world it’s overwhelming, and that’s when you start to lose your honour ranking. You want to test out everything, so you rob, steal, kill, kidnap, and blow up everything and everyone. In the end with Arthur’s death looming, I felt the responsibility to be better than that.
I had no idea there was a wolf (or coyote ) as I always saw the deer. (Im at chapter 6 and about to save the person from the place.)
It wasnt until I watched my uncle play that I saw the wolf in his dream sequences. I immediately went "oooooooh!" As I asked him where his honor stood, and it was close to blood red.
Is there something wrong playing how you want? Nope! Be an outlaw if you want, or be a hero if you want.
But to see things change depending on how you act in this game is amazing.
Could have told him that maxing honour gets you an ending worthy of an academy award.
@@papertigerworkshop1174 He actually changed his ways since that dream and made it to full honor by the end.
These two creatures of nature are
two sides of the morality coin; where the deer symbolizes compassion and determination, the wolf symbolizes hierarchy and supremacy.
John is the Wolf and Arthur is the Stag .That is why we first rescue John from Wolves .They marked him as one of their own .
Makes no sense tbh
What the fuck are you talking about?
Is that why I woke up naked in the Mcdonalds parking lot last week?
I know this is 3 years old but this made me laugh out loud. Idk if it was meant to be funny, but it is funny
That's coyote bruh..
Jesus who cares just enjoy the video
I always wanted the red dead redemption story to be intertwined with gta story. Like the van der linde actually existed a century ago before gta. I love the videos btw man i have been watching you for way over a year. I loved your gta theories now you are on red dead 2, keep up the good work.
GTA and red dead are set like a century apart smarty! How are they gonna intertwine
Well both games have a place Called 'Strawberry'
@@diegoceja1782 i ment like in gta the van der linde gang existed a century ago like they are the same universe. Sorry for my inarticulation lol
Merciless LOL at this, please don’t use this as an excuse of why they are on the same universe, which I don’t know how many times people have to say this but they are NOT in the same universe!!! You can even easily tell as one universe is more serious and the other more comedic
In red dead Chicago is directly mentioned. In gta chicago has a made up name. That already shows they're in different universes
I only got the deer scenes as well and didn't find out till after finishing the game that depending on your behavior will effect what you see. its so crazy and well thought out
I went almost the entire game with medium-low honor. When the wolves began appearing I had no idea it was based on honor. I just took the black wolf to be a representation of death, stalking and watching over Arthur. Every dream I had featured the Wolf. Thankfully, towards the end of the game I starting increasing my honor, and by the time Arthur died I was able to see the deer. It was such a good moment of realization, that the animal represented Arthurs soul all along, and because of his (my) good deeds, he had achieved peace and redemption.
Always got a deer..well.
It’s just super basic symbolism and could definitely have been deeper
Someone on reddit said they saw an eagle instead because they had neutral karma, ending is the same as the good karma one though. Can anyone confirm the eagle thing is true? I know that there’s a cheat to put your karma at grey but don’t know it
My Arthur is Neutral right now, once I finish the game I'll come back.
Didn't know there was an eagle.
I had the eagle...
lowest honor till chapter 6 then Karen's quote broke me,even saw the coyote visions...
redeemed arthurs guilt and rode out with max honor at the end and even got the deer in the final cutscene...
incredible game.
so yeah the eagles true...
I had the stag all the way through but remember seeing the eagle at one point, I assumed it was just part of a montage of environment shots.
I can't remember where in the story it happens but I don't think it has anything to do with neutral honour as mine was consistently high and maxed out near the end. Perhaps it represented a particular point in his journey of redemption?
No there is no Eagle no matter what choices you make or where your honor stands, anyone who says otherwise is just lying.
I believe these visions that arthur gets are what arthur is perceiving as the being that helps us cross from the physical world into "heaven" or whatever your religon may call it. If you have witnessed others near death experiences in your life you know that almost everyone sees a being that let's them into the spiritual realm. But if you have low honor this animal is leading you to the suffering of your consequences hence why the final wolf scene is the wolf entering the deep cave where we cant see inside (this representing Arthur's fear of not knowing what death has in store for him) whereas the final scene with the buck has zero trees or anything blocking its path, it's just calm and serene wilderness as the buck slowly walks towards the unknown with clear sight
Here's a view that blew my mind after learning about spirit animals and how they work. Hint: we don't have just a spirit animal.
SPOILERS!!
I personally found it odd that Arthur has an eagle around his grave when he died with high honor. Like why shouldn't he die as a deer protecting the grave, like the coyote when he has bad honor?
I think this ties into a part of the thinking of spirit animals in general. The eagle would represent Arthur's true spirit animal. It's not the coyote or deer actually. Instead, those two can be looked as totem animals.
Now I actually don't know which one would be a shadow totem animal vs a totem animal in general. Usually shadow totem animals represent the traits we deny, reject, and disown. So naturally the coyote would be a classic shadow totem animal. But wait. We're thinking about Arthur here. He's always been doing "bad" things his whole life, and is in denial that he helps people and deserves better in life, since he killed so many people. So in reality: the buck is Arthur's shadow totem animal that actually came through to successfully guide him if he dies with high honor, and becomes an eagle to protect his grave as that is his true spirit animal. And the coyote isn't exactly rejected in Arthur's self. It would be considered his totem animal. Totem animals are beings that act as a helper and mainly embodies protection. For example: my totem animal is a ball python because they're beautiful, scary, and impressively big, but that's not my spirit animal.
I hope this puts into a brand new perspective on Arthur's dreams about those 3 animals. I found it mind blowing for myself after realizing this.
I got the wolf every time.

Coyotes are bottom feeding scavengers. Explains you in life.
@@MuhammadAbdullah-bd9td I know ;)
I kept playing missions and never helped people so that's why I got low honor
I felt like the wolf was meant to make him the predator but when it became a dear he became the prey

The merc with a mouth They aren’t dreams, they’re just visions that you get throughout the game.
Kasai Eien No I have to say this game is good you can save arthor save
My cutscene of these were uncle:
*walking* “lumbago lumbago” *looks at the camera* “lumbago lumbago” * looks down* “lumbago lumbago”
ok for all of you with high honour imagine this, John Jack Abigail and uncle are all sat on the porch when they see a faint figure of a cowboy approaching, as the figure approaches it becomes clear its an native, John stands and bellows 'Do i know you?' The figure flicks up his hat and smiles, Arthur smiles and softly says 'I'm sure you do' (Unshaken starts to play). EAGLE FLIES AND RAIN FALL SAVE ARTHUR. I need this more than anything else in my life.
Another difference between them is within the music. In the buck pictures they play the same piano tune whilst adding that slow cowboy guitar music that symbolises Arthur’s good deeds. In the coyote version, we don’t hear that and just hear the piano sound due to low honour Arthur’s bad deeds.
