This looks really educational and cool. Probably the first time I have seen technic do a model that is not a car, a plane or a rover.

While it may not be the most displayable set it's still technically very impressive. Amazing how well it simulates the spin of the earth while the monthly markings a really nice touch adding to the educational value of the set. Also looks very easily motorized.

Yep.. I replaced the handle with a gear and that's it for modding this build for me.
Now I can use my old Lego train controller and a 35 year old Lego motor with wormgear attached to it to motorize it by putting the wormgear on top.😅
But the train controller and 35 year old motor look ugly so next month I'm gonna order a modern Lego motor and battery pack for this set.

Awesome. I plan on getting this set and finding a way to motorize the function so that it aligns with the Earth. Basically, I'd make it to where the model completes one revolution when the actual Earth completes a revolution. But I'm still working out the kinks. Anyway, super cool set!

    Got the set yesterday.
    Already motorized it!😂
One of the coolest space sets I own!
It's cool to have a Lego space set that isn't another spaceship or moon base or rover!😄
Ow.. and here are some facts about the rotations:
I replaced one of the pins on planet Earth with a pin that is 3 long so I could put a red door on it as an indicator for the rotation of the earth and I counted slowly...
And I did that 3 times because in science you need to repeat stuff over and over to compare results.
The Earth in this set takes 352 rotations to do a full orbit around the sun and the moon takes 27 Earth rotations to do a full orbit around the Earth.
In real life it's 365 days for Earth and 29,3 days for the moon.
So pretty close if you look at the limitations with Lego gears and the number of teeth they have.👍
One thing I really dislike with this set... Planet Earth itself!
    it's completely wrong!!😅
The size of the continents is all wrong and so is their position.
Try explaining seasons to someone from Africa or Mexico with this set.. it won't work because the continent is in the wrong place😅

I also purchased the set and calculated the gear ratios. One of the important points is that since some gears have axles that rotate respective to the base frame, it is technically a planetary gear system.
The crane rotates at 1/121.5 of the input crankshaft. The 20-tooth gear (1) that transmits power to the crane rotates at 1/3 of the input, which is 79/243 measured from the rotational frame of the crane. The sun rotates at 1/3 of that angular velocity respective to the crane. Thus, respective to the base frame, the sun rotates at (1/3)(79/243)+2/243 = 85/729 of the input.
The revolution of the moon in this set has the same angular velocity as the rotation of the sun, which means that a sidereal month takes 729/85 cranks.
The rotation of the earth, in this model, is powered by the 24-tooth gear below it, which rotates 3 times for each rotation of the 20-tooth gear(1), measured in the frame of the crane. thus, the 24-tooth gear rotates -79/81 time for each crank input (negative sign indicates that the gear rotates in opposite direction as gear(1) ). Measured in the base frame, this corresponds to -235/243 rotation each crank input. The earth rotates at thrice that speed in the positive direction in the base frame.
      Summary:
1 crank on base = 1/121.5 years = 85/729 solar rotation or sidereal month = 235/81 sidereal day
      1 year = 14.1667 sidereal month = 13.1667 synodic month
      1 year = 352.5 sidereal day = 351.5 solar day
