    Dickey has tone a mile deep on his LP. The Tele never stood a chance. But when it's YOUR song, you always step it up.

    • @MrMojabo
      @MrMojabo 3 года назад +1

      This is setzers band. Betts is stepping in playing his song. For Brian to play the the tele is just a chance he never gets. He probably never played the song before. He just wants to play the tele on stage. I doubt if his sound is even dialed in for this.. there are other videos of this show. I think Dickey plays in memory of Elizabeth Reed. Much better quality

    Dickey Bettes,Brian Setzer 1984 Ramblin Man.Amazing performance. Here is a great example of Fender, and Gibson guitars Tonal differences.Very different animals all the same, still, the 25.5 inch scale Fender Alder Maple tone wood/single coils, and Gibson 24.34 inch Mahogany Maple./humbucker pickups. You can hear the Difference, and Both are playing through Marshall heads. Dickey is very loud in this performance, and he over powers Brian. But hey, its Rock, and Roll, and we Like it!

    This was one of the great shows MTV would televise every so often. It had a married couple jam with Lita Ford and Tony Iomi and it had Johnny Winters and David Gilmore and Steve Cropper....Neal Schon...and they all jammed at the end....I may still have the VHS tape of it somewhere :) all the "second teer" guys I call them. Not Clapton...Hendrix ...Allman...Beck...SRV....Santana but certainly tops in their business

  • @guitarbob63

    You are right but you can't go against a Les Paul with a Strat or Tele using their classic sounds.....Hendrix doing" Drivin South " is the way you got to fight a Les Paul in a Jam. I struggle to think of your die hard Strat users in music history that playing a well known "LES PAUL" tune could hang in a jam....Jeff Beck ...young Jimmie Page and his Tele?? Trower maybe... any others????

    • @haroldsteinblatt2567
      @haroldsteinblatt2567 3 года назад +2

      I’m glad you said that. Part of the problem is that he came in on his solo playing rockabilly, and those blue notes did not work with Betts’s incredible melodic playing here. The Fender sounded a little thin, swallowed up by Betts’s tone on the Les Paul. Maybe the biggest problem is that I don’t know if I’ve heard him play his post-Duane material any better, including live. There’s a video of him playing “Jessica” at this same show, and he’s just unreal.
