- After two long months and some major set-backs (including having to take down and re-build our bathroom walls and roof because of rot!) Austin and I are finally back with some major updates!
We added in new walls and a big window, heated floor, painted and installed floor tiles! You might be surprised by the color of the tiles, totally not the way I thought I would go, but I love them so much!

2:58 our sorryboy austin assuring us that the plastic will be reused is funny to me 🤣 and how cute is the fact that he was so down filming by himself for becky 😭❤️
Hes gotta keep up the sustainable vibes TSG try to promote!! I loved his additions to the video!
I thought the same. I was like, yeah this boy knows the sorrygirl brand and their audience
SORRYBOY 😂💀
Loved his additions! Was so seamless I didn’t notice until a second before Becky walked in at 4:12!
The way Austin recorded video of him putting in the window for Becky 🥹❤️
Girls don't want jewelry or flowers. Girls want windows.
Austin is SUCH an asset
It was so sweet.
Sorry boy❤
He read a book. No RUclips. 😂
Becky & Austin are the duo the DIY world deserves.
Don’t let HGTV know! Haha love them as independent agents
Aww the ‘smart… And good looking’ was soo cute, definitely true! Yalls perseverance is inspiring!
the way I giggled hahah
I have to say the "teal slate" tile is actually fantastic! It reads copper patina in a really good way and definitely makes sense with your 70's vibe and paired with the warm rich wood tones! Stinking awesome choice!
Copper fixtures IMAGINE THAT 🤩
You can use an exhaust fan with a heater built in - have them on separate switches ….seems necessary in Canada…I used heated floors when i redid my bathroom. It doesn’t warm up the room like you think it will - especially considering your bath is next to an unheated space….about your floor tile: my now 20 plus year old bathroom has the same 4x4 ceramic tile on the walls and floor. No cracks. The most important thing is your floors need to be perfectly level. Installers will tell you not to use the tile you sourced because they don’t want to be liable….
REALLY astute observation 👍
Rightt! I can already imagine it with a wood tones and silver fixtures (for me it would look the best). The vibes are really 70s, rainy forest and steamy sauna and I am here for it.
I love the addition of the Sorry Boy this week. ❤
Wow, check out Austin with his master DIY skills. I have seen him do this and that over the years, but I didn’t know he was up to this level. Oh yeah, I guess he did build a fence when you were doing your patio I think. Anyway, it’s a match made in heaven!
😎🔨
My jaw dropped when you revealed the old vinyl tile match! 😮😮😮 that’s so insane!!!
Same 😮 it was meant to be!
I think the green tile was a good choice - needed some contrast to break up all the brown tones youre planning on doing. I think its going to look really good when youre done.
I’m glad you share the mistakes too, because not only did you learn something, but I can learn from you as well!
Manifesting the cork tile going in a guest room where it can have it's beautiful moment while not being in a high traffic/high moisture area.
Girl I was scared of that black grout and it turned out GORGEOUS. I love the idea that you’re giving the bathroom back the life it used to have! I had that happen when painting my house, we removed some old trim and saw the color it used to be underneath was almost exactly the same 🥲
I did black grout in my new place, and I'll never go white in a bathroom again!
"Very smart...AND good looking." I'm dead, so smooth 😂
austin is our positive masculinity king
Gosh I love Austin, every time he makes an appearance, he's complimenting Becky and teaching and goofing around. Love seeing him in the videos! What a wonderful couple
I worked in the tile industry for the past 8 years. If you go to showrooms and ask, they may either have discontinued tile that they no longer have in the showroom floor because the quantity is too low but would be enough for your project. Or there may be orders that were never picked up and forfeited that the showroom would be willing to sell cheaply. Also reuse or restore centers often have small amounts of tile.
To address a few concerns you voiced … Porcelain tile is non porous so it should not be affected by the color of the grout. If using stone, make sure to seal it before setting it and then again after grouting to ensure it isn’t stained by the grout or things dropped on it.
Hope that helps!
Although it was a super pain to find the mold and wood damage, it is better to find that sooner than later if it does exist. Becky, you and Austin have both done an amazing job on your house. The bathroom is promising to look gorgeous. I lived through the 70's and find I still don't like brown, although you've almost made me love it with the decorating that you've done in your house already. You've made your house sing, Becky! I can't wait to see the finished floofed bathroom. Thank you for sharing your experiences and truths with us. It will really help all of us!
I’m a firm believer that houses speak to us. That they want to be a kind of way. They have their own ideas and you have to listen to them or it just never seems like it’s at peace with itself. That sounds weird maybe but then …. Your tile being the upscale version of what was originally there happened and I was like, “See!!!”. I loved that moment. Also because Austin gets a little piece of 80’s glam in your gorgeous 70’s oasis lol.
Becky, love the way you and Austin collaborate. A match made in heaven. You have made excellent choices design wise and otherwise. Can hardly wait to see the further adventures of that 70s house.
Updates, yessss! Loving the Austin contributions to the video. 🥰
I was laughing while you were freaking out over the grout. I kept repeating "it's going to look great Becky". And it does.
The grout worked out great. It did dry lighter and it just melts away and it looks like it was meant to be. I’m sure you’ve already made your decisions about it, but you could certainly put some brown tile on the backsplash or even larger areas and it would match well. I can’t wait to see what else you do there. So far it looks wonderful.
I love teal! Plus with the white and wood tones it will feel like you're at a luxury spa!
I’m loving the floor. It reminds me of houses in Europe in the 70’s. Once people started taking out the orange and cream patterned tile they moved up to slate.
Good choice
Having lived in a 70ish era house in a damp hollow somewhere in southern Ontario, every time I saw your house I was sure I could smell mold. When you finally found and removed the mold I was just sure must be there, and reconstructed PROPERLY, I was so relieved! I think discovering mold in your house has to be one of the most traumatic things ever for a homebuyer with big reno plans. Well done you two!
Wow that bathroom really wanted to have teal-green tile😍 It would look so good with browns, love!
Ah! Becky, I've been second-hand stressing for your bathroom. Glad to hear you're moving forward!
I cant concentrate on anything because Becky’s hair always looks so amazing
Wow I’m impressed Austin is amazingly talented..He should go into home renovations..
Important notes of clarification on floor vs wall tile that I definitely want people to know to be better equipped/confident in their choices:
1) There are ABSOLUTELY ceramic floor tiles available - they can be fired and/or reinforced to be more than strong enough for residential usage. So please don’t be turned off of a potentially beautiful floor tile just because it’s ceramic!
2) Performance is one reason wall tile cannot be applied on floors, but it is not the only one! Almost any mosaic with glass in it will not be rated for floor application for obvious reasons. There are also some polished tiles that have not passed necessary slip resistance tests to be approved for floor application.
3) There’s a distinct difference between dry and wet floor application, as well as dry/wet exterior applications. Like the polished tile example before, that same slip resistance might not meet the minimum standard for a bathroom, but could still be fine for a public not-usually-wet-area like a hallway, living room or kitchen. When installing on walls, those same considerations obviously don’t apply.
This may sound like a lot, but no matter where you purchase your tile, there should always be a trained professional who should be able to walk you through what will and will not work for your needs. Every tile manufactured has a set of tests (slip resistance, hardness, moisture content, variation ratings, etc) that will always be reported on either the side of the box or at least on the product’s spec sheet which can usually be found online. And these same information sources will also confirm where any given product is approved for installation.
And last note - while wall tiles cannot be installed on floors, pretty much any floor tile CAN be installed on walls. So never feel restricted to only material labeled “wall tile” if that’s what you’re looking for!
Hope that helps anyone who needs the info and sorry for the essay! 😅
You are truly teaching us, Becky. Learning from your mistakes. I love TSG creative courage.
23:03 That black grout you were so worried about looks perfect!! It matches the tiles so nicely. And how the original vinyl flooring matches your tiles. That is called Serendipity!!!
Becky and Austins relationship makes me smile 😁 they are adorable
Bathroom is looking great, Austin did a phenomenal job and I'm sure Danny will love the heated floor.
My first home had sub-floor heating throughout the entire house, and it was absolutely the best thing ever. I miss it so much that I will still occasionally dream about it, and I haven't lived there for almost 20 years.
The house I grew up in had green marble countertops and I miss them so much!! Makes sense since it was built in the 80s! They’re so beautiful.
The floor tile reminds me of the ocean 🌊 I’m obsessed!
I just finished 18 months of Invisalign…it is so weird at first but you absolutely get used to it. What’s even more funny is that I was just admiring your sweet little gap🥰. The tile looks awesome!
Hi guys! Tile with dark grout looks Great! And yes, compromising in a relationship is key, but my husband still won't "let me" put floral in our bedroom. So I glammed, glitters and floraled my craft room. Yep
Austin is a gem. His little comments make me smile.
YAY! I LOVE the tile!!!
We love that you love it!
It's such a cute modern take on that 80s vinyl!
Ok actually though... Is he the CUTEST HUSBAND?? What a sweetheart. Filmed a video and everything. Major points scored Sir. ❤
For anyone else who might be starting a tiling project and wanting to use tiles (or any flooring, wall surface etc) that is limited quantities (bonus points for second hand)... ALWAYS rule your most important SEEN places first. Using this as an example, the tiles under where the cabinets will be don't need to be the green tiles if there weren't enough of them. You never know what could happen with DIY (could drop or break tiles while cutting for example) so lay out the tiles in a dry fit first. If you need to make changes you can rearrange till you find a fix, THEN adhere them. 😊
Becky is back!! I hope your team is having a great week! Sending positive vibes from Kansas!
"Very smart, and good looking." Love Austin! Thank you!❤🎉
Becky! Have you seen Jenna Phipps mid century modern house?! I think of you every time I see it. 😍
I love how Becky was like "are you filming a little video?" 😂 why's it gotta be "little?" Lol 😂 we 🫶 austin!
What you are looking for is likely not regular tiles but terracotta. It's the exact aesthetic, including the matte, earthy finish. It's very popular in Mediterranean countries. It should be available anywhere, as it's basically clay. It's great for floors and very durable, but it needs to be sealed properly if it's going to be used in bathrooms.
The ghost of the vinyl flooring said, “you’re not going to forget me that easily.” 😂 I’m so excited to see it finished!!
That black grout had me nnneeeeeerrrrvousss but it looks so nice!
The “are you proud of me?” 🥺🥺🥰
I love the way I smiled as soon as Austin started talking to the camera 😄 he's great and deserves the camera time!
I was dying for you with that black grout. Phew……it turned out beautifully.
Omg!! That blue green teal tile is giving Mies Van Der Rohe’s Barcelona Pavilion onyx walls!! So perfect
I really adore Austin's appearance. He comes across as supportive, helpful and cheerful-a real keeper!
We have green marble with white checkered in my parents home and when they moved in 15 years ago I said to my mom "oh that's dated are you going to keep it" and my mom said, "absolutely that's real marble!" and it has aged so well it's so beautiful!
The grout choice was 🤌🏽 and that old tile reveal was 🤯
‘And good looking’ 😂😍 smart man!
3:13 Yass king! Plastic is reusable and we should always do so when plastic is required. Plastic isn’t the villain, human behavior is.
Yeeeeaaaaahhhhhhh! 👏👏👏 So, so happy that you’re finally moving forward! My heart was broken for you for awhile there.
The bathroom is looking great! How freaky that the original floor is what you ended up buying.😮 Can’t wait for the next video! Have a great week! 😊
Austin couldn’t make a better choice with the new blue wall, looks way too good!!
everybody say great work austin!❤
The blue tile with black grout is beautiful! I think it looks so pretty and was a better overall choice than the brown
The chaos area in the 70s home is no longer choas!
LOL!! AWE!! I love that Danny is in the intro. He is so CUTE!!!
I love that you’ve really kept this series as DIY as possible. What a commendable feat, and so inspiring for a new homeowner like me! 🙌🏻
This bathroom has been through so much but it needed that to come out the other side and look like this 😍😍
The tile de'ja' vu was crazy! 😲
That tile is currently trending, it is having a resurgence. And tbh, I'm into it! I would love to use it in one of my projects. Good choice!
I just love watching Austin. He is the man for all the works. I love this colour choice better. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤Austin won.
wait that tile with a warm medium/dark stain wood!!!! so good. i see your vision 100%. and the grout turned out perfect!
I love these updates!! Always look forward.
Wow I was waaay skeptical of the black grout at first but it turned out PERFECT 😍
We have to redo at least part of our finish basement we’ll eventually have to redo all of it but it’s so expensive that right now the plan is to do what we literally have to do. I was researching how you have to put the rigid foam in between the concrete and I haven’t seen how much it cost just so this is good information.
Becky has been, and always will be the ultimate favourite of the crew. Combine with Austin, they are are the best🥰
1. I’m also redoing some floors in my house and struggling with options so I feel your pain.
2. I am also obsessed with Troye Sivan’s house and screamed when you said that.
3. Yay for more Austin. He seems great and his videos are so chill.
For floor tiles that feel mid-century, my heart always screams terrazzo, but I love the compromise you came up with with the 80s colored marble! xD All stones are pretty to me anyways, I'm easy to please like that, but I'll always have a soft spot for terrazzo, even when it's not trendy anymore. ❤
How exciting!! Thank you for sharing the journey and your transparency! Loving every step of the journey ❤
The floor…. Stunning! I love it!
ugh i can’t wait for updates!! im far too invested :,)
This was over too soon. I love this series. We need more Becky videos.
I have been waiting for an update! ❤❤❤
What a satisfying transformation! I’m excited for the next video!
You two are doing an amazing job! You can do it!!!
Looking fantastic.... well done to you both, and to the foreman Danni as well...
Love the tile!!! All the hard work is paying off!
I freaking love this series! And I actually really like that blue! So happy for you guys!
Love where this bathroom is going! Im impressed with yalls skills!!
I'm happy that things are coming together!
My mom and I watch these together. She used to be an interior designer for years and specialized in kitchens and bathrooms. Just bragging about her rn; she was so good that a large home builder hired her. 😁 She loves the green; she thinks it's oddly timeless and just the right amount of color. Also, if anyone lives in southwest Florida, my mom might've done your kitchen/bathroom, lol.
I am very impressed! Looking so good.
I grew up in a house built in the 40’s in Levittown NY with radiant heat generated with hot water (like the ancient Roman’s) in all the floors downstairs. Never cold in the winter.
Becky and Austin are a power couple with DIY skills! The bathroom is looking great. Way to go Austin for all your extra hard work on the house!
Aaaahhh!! I cannot WAIT for the next video to see everything come full circle!! It's looking so good already!
Austin was so cute filming and I was so desperately waiting to know updates about your home!
I’m so excited for you guys! ❤
i was looking forward to an update.... can't wait to watch this 👀
Looking so good I love the bathroom floor and great choice Becky and Austin team work so excited to see the whole review
Your speech sounds fine! You sound slightly different, but it's not super noticeable at all. The bathroom is great, and it's nice that you are showing when things change. The thing is, you can't fully decide on things until you have all the info, and now you have more info than you did. Also I love that you actually consider Austin and his preferences unlike most people i see on YT who think it's hilarious to just ignore the other person or do something they hate. You guys show what an actual healthy compromise is. Dark grout is the way to go! It blends in and also it won't get stained and gross like white does.
I love the sorry girls sm!! ty for all you do.
