@driver667 I have been on this trip many times. The first time that I did this trip was when this section opened in May 2019. The train is driverless, but, there are staff on the train who can manually drive the train in case of a breakdown between the control centre and the train. By the way the train can accelerate up to 110km/h from Bella Vista to Tallawong. This is faster that the traffic on the adjacent road which is restricted to max. 80km/h. If you haven't had the opportunity to experience a journey between Tallawong and Chatswood then I recommend you do so.

@frankbanner8572 you have cleverly used the word "can" in reverencing its speed.
When I rode it between Bella Vista and Tallawong in December 2023, it never got past 85km/h (Speedbox speedometer app).
Have you ever actually clocked it at 110km/h?
I am aware that the trains are capable of those speeds but I wonder if they ever run them that fast?

@rotorookie I did not physically check the speed of the sydney metro trai that I was on. I am only going by what I saw on footage that was posted on RUclips. There was a speedometer positioned in the top left hand corner of the footage that I saw. The speed that it showed was 110km/h so I am only going by the footage that I saw. The operators of Sydney Metro may run the train up to 85km/h, however, I am only describing what I saw in the RUclips footage.

@@carisi2k11 That is good to know that they run it faster than the 85Kph that I experienced, thanks!

It seems to me, one weird thing about an impressive piece of engineering, is the distance between a number of the stations, sure every stop adds time, but we are talking about a "metro".....a couple of stops, almost seemed close to [semi] inter-urban in length between them.....entire communities above get no benefit 🤨

only recently did this trip myself
I was really against driver less trains but I did enjoy this now waiting for extension to open to Sysenham

The Sydenham to Chatswood section will be awesome to travel on when it is up and running in the not too distant future, especially travelling underneath Sydney Harbour.

One of the things I like the most is how fast it gets from A to B, since there is no fixed timetable so no dwell at stations, also the acceleration and braking profiles are quite aggressive (although not as much as they used to be). I live about 15 mins from Rouse Hill and still take the conventional train to the city since it's more suited to such a long journey, but this will be great for the new extensions. People will stop complaining when they get to see how much faster it will be from Bankstown with all those stops!
