It's the effect of demand for electric cars has cause serious depreciation on higher end cars like the Porsche, Mercedes and BMW. Used Tesla are demanding higher on average rate. Look at a used 2016 Model X performance VS a used Porsche Cayenne Turbo of the same year. This is why German car companies are racing to introduce hybrid and electric versions of their best selling cars. Some certainly do not want to buy a car that loses 50 percent of their value in 3 years. US car manufactures are leaving building 4 doors and focus on building Trucks. But recently Ford showing concern over the advent of electric Trucks has been moving to introduce an electric version of their F150 and invested 500 million into RIVIAN. But they view Tesla truck being at least 2 years away and RIVIAN to ramp up production only in 2021 the earliest. Top it off the RIVIAN is expensive and limited used for construction work VS a full size truck.

Nonetheless, Tesla's are fine, I like them, but their advantage lies within the fact that they are electric, and in 2 decades time all cars will be... Good grief. Top Gear much? Seven years ago, that Cayenne turbo cost $120,000. Your brand new model X, less than $90,000. You could’ve purchased a performance X for $95,000 (2.7s 0-60). You talk about lowering the suspension like it’s some sort of conspiracy; it’s a swipe of a finger and three seconds wait. As compared to that obnoxious spooling up of the turbos - a pretty embarrassing procedure at a stoplight. All you’ve demonstrated is that the cayenne doesn’t hold it’s value very well... Plus the cost of ownership over those seven years was through the roof, I guarantee it.

    • @TFLcar

Actually your bias is showing. Seven years ago you could not have purchased a Model X and when the performance Model X did finally debut about 2 years after it was promised.... it cost more that the Cayenne Turbo. These are the facts that Tesla fanboys conveniently ignore.
In fact it is almost impossible to keep track of the price of the Model X because it changes so often. As Model X owners we feel pretty silly for buying it when we did since Tesla made supercharging free after we bought it to new customers. Way to treat your current customers?

The Fast Lane Car Have no idea what your point is. That you didn’t get your X as early as you wanted? That a new auto company will have hiccups? (It took Porsche 60 years before it produced truly reliable cars.) You’re the one who continually runs these head-to-head comparisons, so if 0 to 60 is your metric here are the facts: a 2020 Cayenne turbo will cost more than $125,000; a Tesla model X performance will cost you $95,000. And it will destroy the cayenne in 0 to 60 runs. Now, compare cost of ownership over the next seven years for each and resale value. We already have a pretty good idea of how well Tesla will hold up-Very difficult to find a 2013 Tesla S for $22,000...

Ask a mechanic if it is true that there is a kinetic loss (increase torque need, in layman's terms) after snapping on a universal joint to their ratcheting socket at a high angle, in order to get into tight engine bay areas, to remove a bolt? Same laws of physics apply to drive shafts and their joints. Get out the tool box and give it a try.

    Should be good for 700bhp.

What’s the total cost per mile of running a new Porsche Cayenne against a new Tesla model S.
    Depreciation, fuel, servicing, taxes, etc.
By the looks of it (wild guess) that Porsche cost $1000 per month in depreciation alone.

It’s not really the future unless the Tesla can beat the old Porsche in a 12 hour drive while towing a trailer. Load them up and see which car gets further in 12 hours while hauling a trailer .
Don’t get me wrong , my wife and I are planning on buying a Tesla next year but we are also keeping one conventional vehicle for family trips. Nothing worse when travelling with 3 kids under 8 than adding an hour of charging for every 4-5 hours of driving just to charge.

    • @dawgbear06

So you don't stop to eat or pee after 4-5 hours? I feel for your kids and wife....Also, you shouldn't ever charge for an hour unless you plan to eat. Even then, you'll likely finish charging before you finish eating. Usually on a multi-charge trip, you only charge for 15-20 minutes (a pee and stretch break) so you can reach the next charger.
For a 12 hour trip (~720 miles), in my Model 3, I'd start off with a full charge (from home overnight),
      drive ~250 miles (4 hours),
charge, pee, get a snack for 25 min (~200 miles),
drive another 200 miles (3.3 hrs),
charge close to full and eat (45 min),
drive 150 miles - 2.5 hrs (or more if the food isn't making me sleepy),
take a break and stretch while charging 10 minutes,
then drive the 120 miles to my destination with plenty of range to spare,
This doesn't count the fact that I can plug into any outlet at my destination to charge up while not using the car.

    Have fun servicing a 7 year old Cayenne Turbo. That's why it's $22k. It's a downpayment.

Hi Tommy 🙂. Is the Porsche Cayenne your daily driver? I was thinking it's the Touraeg that's your daily driver but not sure.

So if you use the same logic, then the old Porsche for 22k is a better buy than a new camry hybrid, since its faster and costs less.
Not sure what this exercise was all about? Value for money? When comparing an old ICE car with new EV.

You guys a have very good videos...but when doing drags, then ensure for fairness, that the starter claps their hands to start...because with this starter exactly when do you start??? at the top or bottom with hands moving down...as I saw it, the son took off first each time

Reading through the comments, some folks need to give their heads a shake. First off, this was a fair race. Sure, there were a bunch of variables that favored one car or the other but that's why you race them, to get an actual real world result! Lets run through some of the main variables:
7 year old Porsche- advantage Tesla
    More HP-Advantage Porsche
BEV the heaviest car - Advantage Porsche
Mile above sea level - Advantage Tesla
Not performance Tesla - Advantage Porsche
Has a transmission - Advantage Tesla
I can't recall which tires were on each vehicle - advantage ?
The central question in all this is if you can buy performance on the cheap. The answer is: Yes you can. If your main concern is nothing but getting something that runs fast for as few dollars as possible then look on the used car market. If your concern is getting something that's going to beat pretty much everything else out there in a drag race and you have ~$100,000 in your pocket then you should get the performance edition of the Tesla. (Actually you should get the performance edition of the Model S). All that being said, the average person needs a vehicle for a variety of tasks. Drag racing is pretty low on the list.

If you're going to race head to head, how about using comparable vehicles?? A Tesla P100 D or a new Dual Motor Ludicrous. That Porsche was about $145k new and the Tesla is $85.....

Cayenne turbo 180k. And better comparison would be performance on Tesla model since top on Porsche for cayenne. Not a good comparison. Model x is 2.7s 0-60 if performance version I think. I own a Porsche and I get beat by Tesla all the time and every model just saying. Tesla is pretty amazing. Plus I have a Hellcat and also launch get beat but I take em in the stretch
