Terrific topic Gert. Perhaps even a lifesaving topic. I have been a psychologist for 30 years and have worked with anlcohol and substance abuse for at least 20 years. I can’t begin to describe how many people I know who have denied, or continue to deny, that they have a serious addiction issue and most often with alcohol. Many people started over drinking during the pandemic. Lots of time at home, higher stress, huge boredom perhaps, relationship issues, and substance issues blew up over this period and it’s still taking place. Alcohol is a massive carcinogen. All alcohol is alcohol. High end booze doesn’t lessen the chances of bodily harm. The safe amounts of consumption are much less than most people realize. The costs annually for alcohol and substance treatment and number of deaths are going up rapidly. Get outside, exercise, hydrate, get healthy sleep, eat healthier (sleep is actually negatively impacted with booze - no REM cycle) - and find enjoyable activities that don’t always have to include alcohol or other substances. Overall most people with a problem usually deny it until it explodes out of control and even then many deny they are an alcoholic or substance use abuser. Nothing has saddened me more than seeing the destruction that alcohol causes when it started out innocently for some enjoyment. Many users self-medicate with booze. Loneliness is a huge reason. Way to go for making such a healthy, wise, helpful video Gert! Fabulous and I applaud you! I don’t have more than a dram a week and that’s small use but as I said most people assume they are safe to drink far more than what is advised. I wish everyone safety and good healthy. We have all seen “the small number of You Tubers who have a big problem” and to be honest it becomes impossible to watch their videos. It’s just an excuse to get drunk with people watching! No thanks!
@ You are so welcome Gert! I never worry about you! I can tell you enjoy alcohol in moderation! You are a terrific example my friend!! Have an awesome weekend and enjoy a dram of delicious single malt scotch!!
Interesting to see you say "Many people started over drinking during the pandemic" - it actually led to me drinking less! I tend to drink more in social situations (i.e. 'down the pub'!) than at home, so lockdown quashed that. Also, having hundreds of bottles that are mostly full for years shows I am not drinking as much as someone with a few bottles emptied quickly, but that seems to be counterintuitive to people not in our hobby...
Respectful facts - when one says a "massive carcinogen" - is this at any level of comparing a drinker versus non drinker, or is there a level where this tends to increase the cancer risk?
A nice and responsible video Gert, good points. Also I get the same comments as well about probably drinking a lot everyday but they get really disappointed when I tell them that I don't even imbibe weekdays unless there's an event 😅
One whisky two whisky three whisky...floor, just dont forget to get up 😅 and go for another one. Just joking 😉 Its very easy to crossed the line so everyone of us Must know our Limit. We have to remember to hydrate ourself especially when we drink cask strenght drams so water is welcome. Enjoy resposibly and everything be ok 👍😁🥂🥂🥂🙋♂️

@@peatbull3426 that is something we also said in SA. Big glass of water between drams is a great idea
