I’ve got the black one, it’s a fucking awesome bike all around, and visually beautiful. People don’t listen to the experts, when they say it’s not fast enough, trust me it’s fast, and it’s for the real everyday rider, and not the super bike rider, you choose the bike, and the bike chooses you. I’ve always been a Kawasaki man, because I’m loyal to the brand, and this is my first Honda, and it’s awesome all around. I think the pipe could have been designed better, but trust me, you will love it, and it turns a lot of heads in traffic I’ve found, and people generally like the look of the bike.
I have had my CB1000R now for 1 week and have been able to use it on all types of roads in both rain and standard modes. Travelling at 70 mph (approx. 4,600 revs)on the motorway was comfortable and the ride was compliant suggesting light/ medium touring would be good to do, standard mode offered greater responsiveness than rain with delivery in both smooth and rewarding accompanied by a nice exhaust note(standard can). Obviously I am still running the engine in so do not know yet what the added value will be once revs go above 5,500 when the exhaust note and engine power changes but this is to come. You are right in stating that this bike is a gem. Interesting note is that mpg is continuing to increase and my bike is now registering 41mpg and is going up.
Makes me LOL when I hear you chuckling under acceleration 😬. Lovely looking bike, all manufacturers seem to have those awful rear mudguard things, although with the MT09 there’s an official tail tidy. That dash is lovely and so clear too. I’m looking at getting a monimoto tracker for my bike. Thanks for the upload KWH, keep ‘em coming. 👍🏻
I really wish you hadn't made that point about keeping it in rain mode for riders that aren't keen on the full bhp right away. It makes it even harder for me to resist buying one.
I just got my CB1000R and have been riding in rain mode for now because it has been raining , great is the word that describes the pick up around town where I have been mainly using it and in part on main roads. Pick up is very satisfying being able to leave traffic without any fuss or drama. It is very well balanced at low speeds providing confidence in U-turns and filtering. The steering is direct giving very good feedback which inspires you to change direction with ease. The exhaust note is a low satisfying hum accompanied with burbles and pops when you release the throttle and change gear, A great bike that looks, sounds and run and will keep you thinking you are lucky to be able to ride it.
I had the same fun regarding the indicator/horn switch when I test rode the bike today. I am buying one next week, and I reckon the + model is the way to go. Unfortunately, we appear to only get the standard model in Australia with the red and black colours only. It's certainly one hell of a bike. The review was spot on mate. Subbed!
I've had my bike stolen twice recently so I'm trying to hold off on buying another. Have been waiting for this updated CB1000R for 10 years too. I also noticed they don't do the matte silver version in AU. Was thinking they might for 2019.
@@prndownload There is always PPF. I've got film on my bike because the original Honda paint is a bit "soft" and easily scratchable/ damageable and I wanted it black instead of red. If I go to sell the bike and the film isn't looking too good, I can just remove it and the red paint on the tank will look brand spanking new.
The difference between Honda and other brands is the attention to detail, every inch of any Honda bike shows Honda really care, very tidy, simple yet effective, Honda does not overly designed their bikes ever. Honda for life baby 😁👍
The bike looks awsome. I tested it some weeks ago and it is such a pleasant bike to ride. Can be a real beast and at the same time a bike for a beginner. It is very stable, compared to an MT-09 it is a supertanker. I would have bought one if it was a little bit cheaper.
I recently purchased the silver 2018 Cb1000R (30/3/19) on the weekend and I absolutely love it. Its Plenty quick enough in Standard mode, and it's super smooth too. I definitely recommend that people test ride one because it's surprisingly good. I got the Standard one luckily with a quick shifter & Akrapovic end Can already fitted which sounds sweet.
If you deliberately use a clutch (despite having QS) will the bike tell you if your clutch/throttle-job is not exactly great? I want QS but I also want to work on my shifts.
Nice review as always buddy, someone came up to me and Grim when we were out on the bikes last week and said her boyfriend had actually bought a bike from blade totally on your review and loves it. Keep up the good work Stug
I am kind of interested in one of these... Seems like it might be the most apt modern replacement for my 2002 Honda 919. It'd probably either be this, or Gen 2 Aprilia Tuono
Cornering speed comes with confidence Donna.. confidence in the tyres, confidence in the bikes ability... just ride to your ability, don't worry about being fast to begin with, speed will come as you gain "confidence"... check out videos on counter steering (I haven't done one unfortunately) understand how putting opposite input into the handlebars affects changing direction of the bike, this helps so much, I counter steer all the time in every corner, it helps you make fine adjustments if you go into a corner on slightly the wrong line... understand that and it will help a lot.
My only concern with these nice colored digital displays is the longevity of them, obviously they are not cheap to fit to a bike so what happens when they get more than a few years old?
Jared thats a valid point, in my experience no set of clocks are cheap, they were always expensive as a deterrent to stop people falsifying the bikes milage..
I like these and took one out for a test ride. I am thinking of buying one in the next week or so BUT. there is no way I can live with the shit exhaust headers, I can not believe Honda put such quality headers on the bikes. I have been looking at loads with less than 5000 miles even lots with less than 2000 miles and the headers are fucked. My fz1 I just sold is 9 years old and the headers on that still looked new. Very poor Honda. I am pricing up new headers before I consider buying one. I like my bikes to be mint So just can not spend 9k on a bike that has headers that look like they are off a bike that was just pulled out of a canal.
I have a specific question about the quickshifter. If you decide to "ignore" the QS and use the clutch, but you fckup with the throttle, can you feel it, or will the QS _shield_ you from the bad shift?
Hey Jaroslav.. in a word, no.. although you might get lucky. Quick shifters work best at either fully open throttle (up shift) or fully closed throttle (down shift).. if you role of the throttle to do a clutch gear change the load that the quick shifter is designed to take out of the gear box already isn't there, so you will probably get a big clunk.
@@KaiserWheelHelm Thank you. I got the bike meanwhile and, of course, you were right. Which is great. I love to hone my shifting. This is my first bike (I am rather tall for a 650, I tried), keeping it on limited Power, shifting the old school way. Few times I fcked up the timing and indeed I got the clunk. 4000 miles later, I love that thing. Maybe the next season I am going 3/3 on Power.

@@josh786manchester only you can answer that buddy.. I liked it, it's not an MT10 or KTM 1290 but Honda isn't comparing it to them.. I think they are calling it retro naked (or something like that)... also I've seen some really good deals on this bike so you might pick up one super cheap.
@@KaiserWheelHelm Couldn't live with the awful looks of the MT10 despite it's great motor. Yamaha need a redesign of the MT10. I know so many people who did not buy one purely because of it's looks. The Honda is far classier looking and much better finished.
It sounds bloody good when you get it spinning. Main torque band between 6k and 8k revs when the exhaust note'hardens'as the firebkade engine comes on the the cams. Glorious! But no, it doesn't roar at low speed through towns and car parks - but it's not a bike for 17 year old.
I test rode one for 2 hours a couple of weeks ago...to be honest I was disappointed I found it dull compared to my Z 1000 did like the quick shifter though...it's a nice looking bike and well made but just goes to show a test ride is a must.

Great choice, it is stunning. The reality is few riders have the roads (let alone the skills) to come close to pushing this motorcycle to its limits.

Always good to be out on a lovely day on a great bike, but it's amazing how bikes have become like cars you have to pay for all the extras ;-)

Why do these manufacturers ALWAYS make the standard exhausts SO UGLY! I know it's subject to taste but come on.... It could look so much more stylish.
European emission laws I'm afraid.. exhaust are massive because of them.
So standart got quickshift??
