On our way from Patagonia to Ecuador, the best route was to have a layover in Santiago and in Panama City. We made the most of it and did extended layovers in both so we could see a bit of the cities!

Panama use the US dollar since 1904 like currency money.
If you use a UBER is better for mobility in the PTY for a tourist.
Near to the city is the Summit National Park and Gamboa if you want to see the jungle.
Better beaches are in Bocas del Toro, Kuna Yala and Pedasi.
