Xavi Georgio look IMO, only pure career acheivements, i think is a either Maradona or Johan Cruyff, Maradona won a WC, he won 2 league titles with Napoli and a UEFA Cup, and also played for Barca. Johan Cruyff won 3 Champions League, but i dont count the Champions Leagues cause back than, teams didnt take it seroious as like right now, he won a title with Barca and won 3 Ballon D' Or. I cant say who was the best skill footballer because it was different back then as of now, but by career achievements, Maradona and Cruyff r my Top 2

I agree with the conclusion but not necessarily the arguments. A better argument would be that he never played the tough super competitive European football and never won the champions league which is the pinnacle of football these days. I mean seriously if you guys watch European football the world cup games would seem boring and monotonous. Second, defenders are much fitter now and teams have the luxury to observe players video and develop strategy to handle them in the game. That didn't exist during Peles time. To me Messi is the greatest footballer of all time and Pele doesn't even come close. I would put Maradona, Zidane and Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of him.

Everything we see in football today Pelé did first, absolute legend that can't be matched. Pelé played in a time where football wasn't as big it is today and he made the world cherish for him, football got a spike in popularity during the 60's and it's mostly because of him. Measuring skills is hard, he might not be the best of all time but he is the greatest

      @progkast Год назад +6

@@chalkandcheese1868 The most important factor in spreading the popularity of football was certainly NOT satellite television... although satellite television existed in the early 60s. Pelé was perhaps the greatest ambassador for soccer and when the U.S. started the NASL league, Pelé was their ambassador and played for the New York Cosmos. Soccer/football experienced a HUGE upsurge in the U.S. and Pelé, along with Kyle Rote Jr., Laurie Calloway, and other international stars made soccer more popular than ever in the U.S. This sort of popularity never came again until several years after the 1994 WC. Nothing to do with satellite television... and it´s popularity world wide superceded the popularity of Satellite TV. I am guessing that you weren´t born till after all this occurred.

@@progkast If you think the most important factor in spreading the popularity of soccer was not television you're insane. The 1970 World Cup was the first to be televised in colour, and that brought it to life for many viewers around the world, and the big European club matches started to be televised around the world as well, all vital factors in spreading the gospel. Pele was certainly the first global ambassador for the game, but he was not responsible for the spread in popularity of the game. As far as being too young, I remember watching the 1978 World Cup mate, and I'm not even much of a soccer fan. Anyway RIP the king of soccer Pele.

      Even not considering that...
He would have over 100 penalties like Messi and Ronaldo too... way softer football in general with the referee eager to award free kicks for things that don't even amount to a tackle... He could flop like most top flight footballers of today to get calls and get the call half the time and also a nice field, equipment and ball to play with consistency.
Offside was harsher back then since you where deemed offside if in line with the defender, that only changed in 1990. The yellow card was introduced in 1970 so not so egregious fouls could add up to an ejection... and in that way reduce rough play.
it's just silly trying to compare and conclude that just because Pele stats are padded (which they are... brazil football has some easy matches in the calendar) he is overrated... you can't pretend that modern football penalty takers don't have their stats padded. (Messi has 99/128, Ronaldo 139/166 penalties scored/taken which is just silly) and that's penalties alone... ignoring all of this in the making of this video is just whatever... can't be taken seriously.

He used both right and his left legs to dribble, pass balls accurately and score with both . He used his head effectively to score and no player today have those qualities. Pele may have counted goals in friendlies but he still scored 77 for Brazil. won 3 WORLD CUPS.
The fact is that football had never seen a player like him before (with respect to Puskas and Stefano, Pele was technically unmatched). You can’t look at the past with modern eyes. His ability and influence has probably contributed to the modern footballer, especially with that 70s Brazil side.

Just that alone gives Messi the freedom to run without thinking about what's behind him. No back pass to goalkeeper enables teams like Barcelona to pressure teams and win the ball back quickly which leads to many of the goals Messi and others have scored. More caution and strict rules when jumping for ball gives Ronaldo an advantage in corners and free kicks when jumping to head balls. More strict rules on sliding tackles and just tackling in general means both Messi and Ronaldo and other stars in this generation are more protected and defenders more cautious. Pele played without these rules and managed not just to shine but change the way the game was being played. Not Overrated at all.

The defending tactics have improved drastically after he retired as a player, e.g. the invention of the back foor. Additionally, and that goes for everything related and based in progress, things develop with time. You are not putting things into the correct perspective. Football was indeed completely different from what it is today, and that's exactly why Pelé was so great. He came from a very poor family, in a city without no prospects whatsoever. This guy was raised in the dirt, barely being able to eat decent daily meals. Nowadays football players are taken from a young age to football schools with formidable infrastructure. They have doctors, proper meals and education. They even receive salaries! That did not exist back then. Furthermore, Pelé managed to develop all of this technique by himself, there was no personal trainer to tell him what to do. In the 50s, it was pretty much the trainer and the players. Things are much different today.

The level of a game at a specific moment in time is never an argument against the best player of that time. 2. He said that alot of Peles goals was scored in friendlies and against poor teams. That is false because 78% of those goals were scored against top tier first division teams. And friendlies didnt carry the low importance that they do today, the proof of this is that Pele has virtually the same goal per game ratio in competitive and friendly games (0.92 and 0.94) and he brought up goals scored in the military which was only 13 goals. He also brought up high scoring games and tried to make a false narrative out of it. The Santos of Pele only played in 14 games where they scored 8 goals or more. Now remember that Pele played 1400 games so he tried to make a false narrative out of literally 1% of Peles games. He clearly doesnt know what he’s talking about, just throwing out slanderous accusations without knowledge. He also used the brazilian Juventus as an example of this but thereby making the viewers think he never played against the Juventus of Italy or scoring against them which he did twice. In fact he has a higher goal ratio against Italian and European teams.
      .
Then he said that the quality of players back then wasnt good and tried to insinuate that modern defenders are better and bringing up Sergio Ramos who isnt a world class defender. In fact it’s the opposite, more classical defendeds played back then than now. I cant think about many classical defenders in the modern game like Giacinto Fachetti, Tarcisio Burgnich, Franz Beckenbauer, Bobby Moore, Elias Figueroa, Nilton and Djalma Santos, Karl Heinz Schnelinger etc. Corroboration without evidence is worth nothing. Then he proceeded with a nonsensical argument that supposedly many people think Pele is WC top scorer which is a knock on peoples ignorance, not on Pele. However Pele has the best goal contribution ratio of all time. 12 goals in 13 world cup games and 10 assists aswell which is the world record of assists in the world cup. After that he proceeded saying Pele was ” outperformed” which is false but even more, no such thing exists in a team sport playing games in the world cup because you are there trying to help your team win at all cost, not to stat padd. Secondly he didnt mention that Pele was top scorer of Brazil at the 1958 World Cup in Sweden as a SEVENTEEN YEAR OLD!! And won best Young player. Then he said that Pele ”wasnt even the top scorer in 1970 instead Jairzinho was” but foolishly failing to mention who in fact it was that gave Jairzinho many assists setting the current standing world record of assists in a single wc tournament and the wc assist record in total. He should also have mentioned that Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Johan Cruyff, Diego Maradona and many other great players never were top scorers in the world cup. After that he amusingly brought up Luis Felipe Scolari quoting him as saying that Pele knows nothing about football. But I ask you what the heck has that got to do with anything about Pele as a football player?? Felipe Scolari the same man who managed Brazil to a historic 1-7 defeat against Germany at home. He also said Pele only has two World Cups because he got injured but that’s not a knock on Pele or any other player getting injured like Messi in the 2006 Champions League or Brazilian Ronaldo not playing a single minut at the 1994 World Cup. Finally he proceeded to name some marvelous Pele records and immidately after that blithely and inanely calling him ”the most overrated player of all time” what a bafoon.

He was 17 in his 1st World Cup back when defenders could break your leg while taking some of the ball.
The defenders you don’t rate could cripple players with very little to no consequences and would try to hurt him to get him off the pitch.
His skills laid the blueprint for modern football, the things he attempted were not even thought of back them, football would not exist without the ground he broke, he was one of the 1st to nail done what a 10 is you argue Maradona + Messi perfected the role but Pele is iconic.
Of course it’s not as polished as what you see now the 1st to do things aren’t.

Clearly this is for attention. Pelé is in other words the essence of soccer/football. He still hold records that will forever be unbeatable. To begin, he’s the youngest player to win a World Cup and score a hat trick in a World Cup. You can literally watch his highlights (the ones still available) he created most moves you see top players make, he’s played in net and won those games too. Stopped a war to see him play. Was unjustly red carded, they made the ref reverse the call and switched refs. When he started playing, players were extremely rough, beating him down each game with no red cards at that time. They injured him out of the 1966 cup so Brazil wouldn’t win 3 in a row. He was crowned the king for a reason. Took Santos to Europe and beat each countries champion. Brought soccer to US by joining Cosmos mid 70s. He never played in all-star teams, he was the all star team. RESPECT THE GREATEST BALLER EVER, O Rei Pelé!
