  • I purchased 3 different sizes (1 Cell, 2 Cell, 4 Cell ) of the 18650 Battery Shields and in this video I'm going to review them, connect them up and show you how they work.
    These modules are hardy for your electronics projects to connect to Arduino, ESP32, ESP8266 and all they 3v and 5v accessories. or simply just use as a USB charger for your iPhone, Samsung, Android or what ever device you have that charges from a USB cable.

    Is it possible to use this module to supply a raspberry Pi while chraging the battery cells at the same time?

    I bought the 4 cell one. I found that to power it down you must push 2 times the button and to power It up 3 times. Also, the sliding switch seems to do nothing....I charged (under a looooong time) , 8 cells (I use 2 cells in parallell , so I put 4x2..yes: I am an evil one!) Worked fine!

      The switch only works for the USB power. The 3.3 and 5V are always on, except if using the push button as you noted.

    Hey, thanks for sharing this. My shield is quite similar to yours but includes a small switch (hold/normal) that keeps the shield on without a minimal load (hold) and in normal mode, it turns off if there is no minimal current. I was wondering if there's a way to monitor the power level of the battery so I can read it in my project. Is it possible to solder a 3V output and ground with a voltage divider? Any suggestions/ref? Thank you in advance!

    Is it bad if I use the button top batteries with them? They’re hard to squeeze in but they turn on. One issue is that the little micro chip on the other side gets super hot. Is that related to the button top? Or something else?

      Hi i just got this recently, sorry for the extremely late interject.
      The answer is Yes and No:
      You can use while charging, but the moment you unplug the charging cable, it shuts off long enough to cut power to everything before turning back on. This does not behave like a UPS.

    Very informative video friend, mind if I ask something regarding these battery boards? If I wanted to connect these to a solar panel to charge, where can I connect the solar cells to charge the lithium batteries? The soldering tab does not seem like the solution, do I connect those to positive and negative terminal on the bottom panel? Thank you for the very informative video, bless you and have a good day friend.

      Yeah, I was wondering the same. Not sure can we connect the wires from the solar panel to the micro USB port which is used for charging. Also I'd like to know if we can draw current from the shield and charge it at the same time (which is needed for off grid weather station).

    One would think that with all the features of over charge, under charge, it would be cheap and easy to reject if the polarity is put in incorrectly

    • @tonyp4894
      @tonyp4894 3 месяца назад

      No. This would cause the charger to never reach the cutoff voltage, overheat the battery, and may catch on fire or explode. Either charge it, or power a load, but never both at the same time.

    Does it have discharge protection? That is, will it shut down once the battery gets down to 3.1V for example.

    I purchased the dual shield DIyMore (2 of them). of course if I try to use it as a UPS it won't work since it charges very low a .5amps. So just to charge the 18650 without anything connected to it (not being a UPS or drawing a current) it actually slowly depletes the batteries. I can see the red LED lights get less and less over hours. I'm assuming these are both bad boards? Anyone else have the same issues? Also the green LED never comes on since it always depletes the cell power. HELP! Bought from Amazon. Guess I should return them.

    • @tonyp4894
      @tonyp4894 3 месяца назад

      Here is why the green light (or blue) never comes on ...
      It is never recommended to charge an 18650 lipo at the same time as using it to power something else. It is not a two-way street. Pick one or the other. If you have a load on with the charger on, the charger will never reach the cutoff voltage, which then overheats the battery and may cause it to explode. Just saying. :)

    • @RI-ns8wz
      @RI-ns8wz 2 года назад

      I am asking myself the same question. It seems to do nothing. Alas, the last firmware version of the 4 cell board powers down with 2 push button touches and powers on with 3 touches. It makes sense : if We accidentally push once the button, something happens....pushing It accidentally twice is something highly unusual.

    • @tonyp4894

      As I mentioned before,, the switch is to shut off power to the load while charging.
      Here's why...
