Letter to a Cancer Patient: Watch This if You've Been Diagnosed

  • If you’ve been diagnosed with cancer or someone who you care about has, this letter is for you.
I’ve been diagnosed twice in the last 6 years: stage 3c metastatic melanoma in 2018, and a stage 4 recurrence in 2023. That doesn’t make me an expert - nobody’s cancer experience is the same - from diagnosis, prognosis, life situation, treatment plan, and outcome. But I wish someone would have said these things to me when I first had to face this fucked up mess.
I started my cancer vlog almost exactly one year before making this video (357 days, to be exact - but who's counting 😂). I didn't learn all these things on my own. The cancer community has been so helpful to me, and all I want to do is give back.
    Love ya'll 💜
    Byyyyyeeeee

Thanks Mike. It's scary to think of living in times before there were effective treatments. Not that long ago, really.

    Hi Mike
It absolutely sucks having said that we get a chance to meet people like you that gives good advice and a good dose of reality.
You're right most people are very nice and find if difficult to express their feelings towards cancer patients .
    My favorite lately is
" Hi Carmie youre looking good " I reply What did I look like before lol " that seems to put everyone at ease and we laugh and get on with a good conversation .
Today my urologist called me she is wonderful I always make sure she knows I'm thinking of her and grateful for the information and details she provides ; today I had my list of questions and she reassured me that my treatment was the best available right now and she was happy that I'm doing well .
Same goes for my Oncologist very reassuring about the treatments and stay the course .
Like you I would suggest a second opinion if you feel the need or communication isn't good between you and medical team .
Another great video yes everyone is different and everyone's journey is different, please everyone keep up the battle and do what brings joy and happiness to you .
You're entitled to be selfish a bit .
    All the best to all
    Carmie 6:47

I got hit with the "you don't look like you have cancer!" the other day. And to some degree, that's true - I don't. But like... what is that supposed to mean? I have stage 4 (technically incurable) melanoma, even though it's in remission. But whenever I get a little riled up about it, I realize that most people don't really know what the specifics of my diagnosis and prognosis mean. They don't know how much we ride a roller coaster, both physically and mentally. I'm glad you have a good support team - hoping all the best to you ♥

Hey Mike, hope all is well. I want to take this opportunity to thank you for everything you are doing to raise awareness in regards to cancer. I myself am a cancer survivor, whom was diagnosed with red, no blastoma at the age of four months old. As of now, I’m still kickingin alive thanks to God. I totally feel what you’re doing is so phenomenal to raise awareness and I would like to connect with you. Wish there was more enthusiastic and positive people like you out there to raise awareness.

Peter! I'm doing great, thanks - and I really appreciate you watching and sharing your story. Makes me feel hopeful, and presumably others who see these stories. You can shoot me an email at Mike@ascribewriting.com if you want, or let me know if you want to connect any other way. Always here to chat and talk more about survivorship/all facets of cancer (and life). Cheers!

Thank you for sharing. I was recently diagnosed with stage 2 colon cancer which has not spread to the lymph nodes and no metastases. Here in UK, the standard of care that has been offered is surgery which will remove the tumour and one third of my colon. This is due to happen in one week from now. I feel there must be another way, may be to shrink the tumour or even totally dissolve it. If you or any of your readers have any advice or information please let me know. Many Thanks, Tony

Hey, Tony! First off, that sucks - but hopefully they caught it early enough that whatever route you go will be successful. I don't think I'm qualified to say what the best option is, but I think if you're uncomfortable with the idea of the first proposed treatment, a second opinion is a great idea. Wishing the best for you/let me know how it goes :)

@2:11 It's not about cutting sugar??? Seems like the one thing I hear in common with so many people being cured of so many unrelated conditions is the elimination of sugars. Keto, carnivore, fasting... all cancer fighters, all reduce or eliminate sugar...

    • @Linn_Laugh_Love
      @Linn_Laugh_Love  3 месяца назад

That’s a common misconception! Not to say that sugar is healthy - and eating a healthy diet is always going your way be better than not.
But outright eliminating sugar isn’t necessary or even recommended for almost anything. ALL cells run on glucose, not just cancer. You’ll find people who get very extreme about eliminating sugar, when people doing cancer treatment need to get calories however they can tolerate them.
Again, not saying we should be crushing candy all day, but fearing a Snickers every once in a while or cutting carbs out of fear is unwise in my opinion. But I’m also not a medical professional, so don’t just take my word for it :)
