Josh, thanks for the review. I agree with you on the price BUT I would say that if you are looking to buy this laptop just simply wait for one of Lenovo's legendary sales. For example, right now Lenovo has the z13 on sales at just over $1333 for Ryzen 5 CPU and $1579 (with Gen 7 6850 CUP, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD) plus tax and I would say at those prices it's a pretty reasonable purchase for what you are getting. I do wish Lenovo would stop playing these games and just price their systems in a sensible fashion.
Generally speaking I would not go with the AMD 5 CPU because with that 5 series you get the Vega iGPU which is SIGNIFICANTLY less performant then the RDNA 2 iGPU you get with the Ryzen 7 (6800 series) CPU and Vega iGPU is significantly slower than Intel's IRIS iGPU. So if you have ANY aspirations of doing gaming or Graphics intensive I'd steer clear of the AMD 5 CPU.
I'm surprised with your assessment of the z13 haptic trackpad...the majority of reviews I have seen on this laptop have lauded it's trackpad as being as good as the Apple trackpads...but to each his own. Other reviewers have said that by tweaking the trackpad's multiple settings they were able to tune to their liking.
It's also interesting to note that the SDD in the Z13 is the smaller form factor SSD.....Other reviewers have noted that the performance of the z13's SSD was slower than they expected....maybe that's just a result of the specific SSD that Lenovo used in this laptop vs reflective of performance that you get with the smaller form factor SSD.
How was the reflectiveness of the touch screen? Specifically could you get away using it in the shade outdoors? At 400+ nits it seems possible if the reflectivity is pretty low. I think the non-touch version of the display is more of a Matte screen finish vs the touch version that is anti-glare (presumably some coating to reduced the glossiness of the screen but it's not matte). The description of the touch screen is slightly different from the non-touch version which leads me to believe the non-touch is Matte.

Thanks Jet. Great comments. I honestly constantly learn and improve from you guys.
Trackpad - I am not sure how much the others used the laptop. I can't speak for them only me. I used it alot. However trackpad feel is indeed subjective and a mater of preference - but I feel pretty strongly about this one. You can always buy it, try it, and return it, if it doesn't work for you
Pricing - Even for Lenovo's I'm shocked at how nuts the discount is, so I should have said... Lenovo is known for having massive sales so keep an eye out.... but I 100% agree Lenovo needs to change this and offer more consistent pricing. They have themselves to blame here
AMD Graphics - Noted re the AMD graphics on the 5 series. I didn't know that
Reflectiveness - Moderately refelctive. I wouldn't use it (the touch) much outdoors even in the shade. I'd get the matte if indeed there is one

Honestly, even if it were $1000 cheaper, I'd still be considering other laptops. $1259.99 + tax would still be just a premium starting price in a worst case scenario. The only other premium laptop of that size that starts at such a high price (that I can think of right now) is the LG Gram 14. The Spectre, XPS, and Zenbook start at a much cheaper price.

    • @cameronbosch1213

The XPS is an AWFUL option this year. It is a worse value, drops fundamental ports and gives too few of the remaining ones, solders EVERYTHING on the smaller model, and for the prices you'd pay, I'd just get a MacBook Air (better battery life and less bad stupid port decisions), HP Envy AMD (better battery life, port selection, and runs Windows), the Asus ROG x13 (about the same battery life as the XPS but with a better screen, port selection, dGPU, and well, everything), or even the HP Dev One if you like Linux. The XPS really fell this year. I mean, the build quality and QC issues were bad, but now they've crossed the line with bad QC AND bad products. For years I used to recommend Dell products, but since 2020 and having an XPS customer service nightmare, not anymore.

I don't know why they don't just remove the red nipple, I literally have had a few ThinkPads and have never ever used it, when I've tried to use it it's just annoying and useless compared to using the trackpad. An ultraportable where you have to keep it on a desk and use an external mouse to enjoy it kinda defeats the purpose. I was actually excited when I saw this product at first precisely because the trackpad was haptic and it had Ryzen 6000 so I was hoping it could be like my MacBook Air M1 but run Linux instead. I'm very disappointed to find out that it is severely overpriced and that the main feature that attracted me (the trackpad) is actually one of its biggest downsides. Josh didn't like it but there's other reviewers that say it's the best trackpad on a PC laptop right now. That is, isn’t it true that batteries can “speed up” discharge as they get closer to 0% and this can vary by battery type and manufacturer? Please allow me to elaborate in more detail my point of view: Urging Lenovo to “leave the trackpoint” could lead to a marginal enlargement of the trackpad’s surface so as to facilitate to a larger extent the needs of the users that solely use the trackpad˙ it will be a marginal gain for them. However, that will detriment the workflow of thousands of ThinkPad users that are totally accustomed to using the trackpoint. I am one of these users and no matter how much you may disagree, I find the trackpoint to be more useful and more precise than the trackpad. Got it on ebay for 350 usd, what are its issues? I saw that it only uses an internal battery so that would mean opening it up for replacement. What other issues does it have? I thought about even selling it and upgrade, but I don't know what the next step up is. I guess if I bought a better laptop it would need to have 16gb ram included and probably dedicated graphics card. I don't necessarily need a better cpu, but processing power and RAM is a higher prioritization for me because of my needs. Needs are working with plc programming with Siemens TIA Portal application and I think that app primarily needs a lot of ram. MAYBE it would be nice to have a dedicated graphics card to be able to play but I already have a ps5 and not even playing that much so I guess that's less of a priority compared to the laptop just needing to be fast

The only down side to Dell laptops is the parts are hard to source that's why I don't buy them. I have a Toshiba satellite laptop from November the 9,2009. And I don't have no problem up until now with it I only changed the hard drive to TB and the ram to 4. So you can do the math how many years I have it for. I am an accountant plus graphic designer so it's how you take care of a device makes it last longer. I only do video editing and no issues so now am wondering which laptop to buy to meet back to my Toshiba.

I disagree about the trackpad thing ... in my opinion they should BRING BACK the physical buttons to supplement the track point ... The ONLY reason to buy a Think branded laptop is the iconic keyboard / Trackpoint. Most users would disable the touchpad entirely. I couldn't use that track point without the physical buttons, it would drive me nuts. Shame because otherwise this laptop looks good.

@@cryptoctupus5680 I highly recommend you wait if you want a new ThinkPad. CES2022 is just about to take place, the X1 Carbon Gen 11 is gonna be a nice upgrade from the current Gen 10, and it has a more traditional track point and track point buttons as well. From what I hear, they'll be available for sale in March/April. Skip the Z13, not worth it.
