Rick, I absolutely love watching your videos. You mentioned that you were thinking about starting a new series about people who have left everything behind and moved on a boat. I believe that you would have great success with that type of video series, I know that I would definitely be a regular viewer. Keep up the great work!
The day in the life series sounds great, My wife and I are planning our sail from Michigan to the Bahamas about 5 years from now. We enjoy reading and watching other peoples traveling experiences.
Hey Rick...for you to do videos about the stories of other folks is a brilliant idea !!! There are so many of us that want to do it...& some will...but until we do, feeding the need is a wonderful idea !!! The more we can learn about it all from sources like your videos, the better it will be when we finally can make the leap ourselves !!!
Rick Moore Quite honestly, everything you mentioned sounds interesting. I'm buying my first boat as we speak (closing is on Thursday) so I've got lots to learn, and just like hearing those slice of life type experiences, as I always get new ideas (for me anyways) when I watch them. Drake Paragon has done a few of those type of interviews I've enjoyed.
As always another excellent video. The new series would be great. I'd love to hear what people who have trade it all in for life on a boat have to say. Would be quite interesting to hear what they found to be the single most challenging aspect transitioning from land life to life on a sailboat.
Another cool video Rick. Appreciate all of the work and hours that you put into your productions that we get to enjoy. I'd like to spend about a year hanging out with those folks at the yard doing the work, nothing better than learning things by getting your hands into it.. The restoration of your mangled rudder was amazing..
Yes please! That sounds like a great video series. I've dreamed of the live-aboard lifestyle but I'm on the fence about it. This is mostly because I don't really have a reference beyond pleasure sailing so it's almost a leap too far.
Great series, Rick! This is the stuff we don't often get to see...the other side of living in Paradise. I would LOVE to see a series like you mentioned all about the live-aboard life and the people doing it!! I need the inspiration to pull the trigger!! Thanks!
Love the new series, My only comment would be that I wish they were longer. 20-30 minutes. I love seeing all the things that happen outside of sailing. the equipment, the gear, the supplies. It makes me feel that if I were to ever sail, I would have at least a brief understanding of what it takes. Great vid's btw!!!
Great idea on the day in the life series. I always thought it would be interesting to see people's backgrounds and their perspective. Some people have very interesting life stories just in general and its nice to see different backgrounds.
bedazzled64 Yes, seems like it would be a well received series.. working on a pilot for it now to test the waters... keep an eye out and be sure and let me know what you think! :)
Hi Rick! I love the idea of a video series about "A day in the life of" It takes a special breed of people to take that step and live that life style. What a great opportunity to meet new people and share their stories.
Rick, Great series, love these videos. I would very interested for a day in the life series. I am a live aboard in California, seeing a look into the life as a full time cruiser is invaluable.
would love to watch and listen to people who decided to leave it all and live on their boat. This is my dream too. I purchased an Oceanis 31 but decided to get a 35. will have the official delivery this Saturday.....one day, one day, I will make it to the caribbean
I agree, that would be a great series. To chronicle the different singles, couple s and families out there where they came from etc always anything about budgets etc
Love your videos Rick. Me and my family go to the Caribbean all the time and when we're not there and were here in the cold of Toronto it's great to see you sailing the Caribbean. But ya I think it's a great idea to make videos about other people's lives on the seas.
That would be amazing to see... I have a major dream about doing that aswell... to just live life like that eventually. I'm studying to become a master mariner and I get extremely inspired by this. Living life on a boat in paradise and not worry about the first world problems.
We've enjoyed watching your videos for a few years now and think the "Day in the Life" series sounds awesome. So much of our viewing pleasure comes from dreaming of taking off on our own someday so it would be great to get those insights. Fair Winds!
Yes on the new idea. I'd love to learn more about the financial part of living on a boat. I'm not sure it needs to be an ongoing series though. Thanks for what you do.
Our boats on the hard in Grenada for hurricane season2015, were on Discovery and sailed from Miami in jan and hit almost all the islands on our way down, love your series and hope we see you down island this winter, think your idea on the full time cruisers is right on, we retired 3 yrs ago and did the Bahamas twice before we headed to the islands. We're on a 2002 hunter Passage 456, a production boat like yours. Glad to see someone else prove the na Sayers wrong who preach a production boat can't travel offshore
Good idea for a new series Rick. We lived aboard for 10 years in Florida and the Caribbean and loved it. I'm always glad to hear of the experiences of others doing the same. Go for it man! Loved the series on the refit of Sophisticated Lady...that wasn't inexpensive I imagine. You'll have to keep those Patreon contributions coming in...LOL.
Rick, AWESOME ideas you have coming up! Can't wait to watch. We would particularly enjoy the cruising life stories of living on a boat and all that goes with it. :-) If you are planning to devote the time, it would be cool to see what goes on, morning brekkie to an island hop, mooring ball / anchoring location selection (in a busy anchorage), a sundowner BBQ in the cockpit. Maybe a not-so-nice job in between. ... not so much an "interview" but, real life scenarios and sailing/navigational instruction. The additional segments covering your refit and equipment selection would be great to watch as well. Great photography as always! Thank you! -Charles
Very interesting to see how much work goes into re-hauling a sail boat. Will like to see how the electronics work on the boat, just the basics. Thanks for sharing Cpt. Rick
Jasper Van Dijken thanks so much Jasper, appreciate you taking the time to watch, and also for your comment! I think the "Day in the Life of" could be of interest to many... what kind of kinds of subjects would you find most interesting to be covered?
That series sounds like a great idea. I've watched alot of your videos and now subbed. I dream of doing this as well. Great vids and very informative. Thanks
Hi Rick, Great video. I believe a video series on "the day in a life of a cruiser" would be fantastic. I have thought about doing a series of videos similar to this idea. I'm currently following and have subscribed to many different youtube channels and blogs about cruisers and their travels. Every now and again a video will pop up about the "hows" of getting started. I haven't found a video series or blog that truly gets into the heart of the subject. The closest I've seen is an eight part series on the SV Delos channel. I think you should move forward with the idea. Take Care and Happy Travels.
Scott Hert Hi Scott, and thanks for your comment! I've seen some of the Delos videos, which 8-part series do you mean? As for the potential new series, what topics would you consider of prime interest?
Hi Rick, SV Delos did a series a few months back titled "Cruising talk in Copenhagen Denmark" which is in their playlist section. They touched on some good topics. Subjects that are prime interest mostly involve real life journeys of cruisers. What steps and/or circumstances occurred to push into full time cruising. It seems most people I talk to about the cruising lifestyle all have the same fears. So, how to overcome those would be a good topic. Another would be addressing the false idea that you have to be retired and/or a millionaire. Alternative means of income ideas. How to locate and decide which type of boat to purchase. What type or how much sailing experience should a person have before making the transition to full time cruiser. All of these topics interest me. I'm sure there are more, but these are just off the top of my head. Take Care and keep me informed how its going.
Pablo Ermacora Hola Pablo, and thanks for your comment! You could be my new best friend, I've been trying to figure out how to reach more people in South America with the videos.. how did you find them?
It would be great to have a series on liveaboards - why and EXACTLY how much it cost and costs month by month to keep going. I'd love to do this, but I'm not in anyway shape or form rich. Finding out the cost details and how they fund the life style would be absolutely gold. Thanks for your videos. Love them.
Hello Rick, I enjoyed watching your series and would love to hear what others say about their change in lifestyle by moving onto a live a board sailboat. I think this is a great idea for a series, it would be interesting to hear their point of view. thanks for the video, keep up the good work.
Yes, very interested in the spin off. Would love to hear peoples stories. Let me know when you have some videos of that. Keep up the great work. Thanks for sharing.
gotta remember on the first trip from the travel lift back to Marina slip after a bottom paint your beloved boat doesn't stop on a dime anymore EH! Hit the end of the pier last time in my boat as she just wouldn't stop. Take it easy until you get used to the new dynamics of throttle steering and speed control. Love your boat man :)
I hope to be one of those cruisers some day, and I think it would be interesting and helpful to get a "day in the life" perspective. Thanks for sharing!!!
I would like to see that new series. I just bought a 38ft sailboat and your series has me jonesing to move on it and sail away. Keep up the great videos! Jim
That sounds like a great series considering nearly a year and a half ago I moved onto my C&C 34 and I love it! My extended plan is to sail away from Vancouver, Canada down to your part of the world! :) Thanks for sharing the refit, really enjoyed it. Alfy
Hey Rick! I very much like your idea about showing the different stories of people living a life at sea. My wife and myself living in Copenhagen and have been thinking about making a change to that kind of life. We however do not know how to sail or how to get something like this started. Therefore I would very much appreciate such a film to give us an idea about how to get to move from city life to boat life.
I think that would be a great idea, we love your videos! Those guys did an incredible job on your boat, she looks new. We're presently in the FL Keys on our boat, hope to be there next year! We'll be looking for Sophisticated Lady..
HI Rick , we are making plans to do just this . sell everything and move onto our boat . im not attached to anything but , warm climates ,sunshine and sailing. otherwise , no worries here . one or two more years and we are outta here . BIG hugs from Sweden :)
Hello Rick..... I must say your vids are good enough, but your idea of live aboard life as a little add on would be very interesting! I've been watching many sailing videos and I have to say that yours are in a class of their own. Very well put together and always full of great content. I have been a motor boat guy many years.......... and I have just purchased a 22 ft. sailboat to learn on...... I'm hooked.... on sailing now. I ask myself all the time now... What have I been missing? I will be looking for a larger sailboat to travel on. Thanks for all you share with us.
hello, thanks for the vid, yes contemplating selling out and buying a sailboat to live aboard myself. really enjoy the not so glam part of sailing, up keep, retro fits and upgrades, also foul weather or sailing in bad weather to prepare for the worse and the unseen expensive cost of replacement of equipment. and when to do so. thanks again.
Hey Rick, I really enjoy your videos. I actually grew up in St. Lucia. I think your idea for a spin off would be awesome. My wife and I plan to join the cruising life within the next five years, and we're in the research phase now. Fair winds and following seas.
Rick, I absolutely love watching your videos. You mentioned that you were thinking about starting a new series about people who have left everything behind and moved on a boat. I believe that you would have great success with that type of video series, I know that I would definitely be a regular viewer. Keep up the great work!
Hi Rick. Glad to see Sophisticated Lady, is redone and back in the water !!!!!!. Can't wait to see more of your Adventures.
Hi Captain, your idea of facilitating the personal stories of other cruiser’s path to life on a yacht is a good one. Thumbs up.
Absolutely worth having a serie of those who have decided on a new more interesting life than the cubicle ... Thanks for sharing...
