    Dish cleaning tip: If you are traveling with dishes and are tight on room for liquids, get a sponge and cut into thirds or quarters. Wet the sponge and put your dish soap on it, suds it up then let it dry. Put the pieces into a zip top bag and when you want to wash a dish/bottle just wet the sponge again and you have a sudsy sponge. You can keep the pieces for another trip, too.

    Eunice, I appreciated how you explained why you do this, that "it is a comfort thing for me". I am the same way with certain things at home like always having a full pantry and emergency supplies. Even when I was a kid, if we had a tornado watch/warning going on, it was me--the kid--who was bringing the blankets, lanterns, snacks, etc. down to the basement making everything cozy and ready for anything. It has carried over into my adulthood. Thankfully, my family understands and they don't laugh at me. They know to just deal with my fascination with gadgets! :)

      We are cut from the same cloth! I have been like this, since I was a child as well. And I don’t know why it is but I’m always wanted to make sure that everyone has everything they need.! I completely understand this and agree. My parents grew up as farm kids in the 30s & 40s, so full pantries & freezers were a matter of course. Daddy was an Eagle Scout and I was a Girl Scout, so 'be prepared' is pretty much my mantra.

    What a delightful video! I am a travel neophyte so I would never have thought about cooking/drinking/eating while traveling. This helps me understand how to keep from being totally dependent upon restaurants while traveling. Thank you! PS...I would love to see a series of vids on "How to Travel"...for complete beginners. How to decide where to go, how to book a flight, how to find a hotel or air bnb, how to convert money, how to "wing it" as a solo traveler. I am hopeless when it comes to traveling well. Anything would be useful for me. 🙂

      My first solo trip I ever took was Disney World. Now that may sound crazy as I was over 40 at the time but I had been before and I knew that I always felt safe there. Plus Disney (I don’t know about now) had shuttle service from the airport to your resort, the resorts all have some kind of place to eat and you don’t have to do the rides. You can go for nice walks sit on a bench and people watch etc…. It was a great first solo trip.

    Love the S2S collapsible cups with lids! (I have medium cup - which would nest in X-Large bowl with lid, small cup nests in large bowl as she displayed.) Great to throw in your purse for restaurant leftovers, in the car for small loose nuts, snacks, candy on family road trips so those big bags don’t spill. The cup nests inside cup holders. And for yogurt cups that don’t get finished you have a sealed lid!
    I also like Victorinox folding serrated knife with round tip…though would need to be in checked luggage if flying.

    I have a similar collection for when I traveled for work! I actually carry less but more electric gadgets. I have a coffee French press thermos (300ml). An electric 500ml/ pint kettle dual voltage (from Amazon UK), a collapsible silicone cup with a clip lid for soup (ramen), a small one with a lid for beverages. Spoons and chopsticks. This goes into my carryon bag. I also carry a bento box of things to eat on the journey if there is no inflight service.
    If I have checked bags I carry an electric lunchbox, and a small bag (a toiletries bag) with knives, forks, tiny plastic cutting board, tiny whisk, tiny silicone spatula, kitchen towel, small sponge, seasoning, Swiss Army knife with can opener. I have three electric lunchboxes but I only carry one depending on the electric voltage available at the destination. These are Itaki, Hotlogic, and one I got from Korea which is a folding rice cooker. None of these get hot enough to fry things so at some point I may add a Dash mini griddle to my collection.
    I really like your collapsible silicone boxes too as a lighter replacement for the hotlogic container!
    Also chopstick are indispensable! I carry a few of the takeout kind as they can be used for cooking and even to mix dough!

    I have been freeze drying foods at home since 2016. I have been focused on food storage and having fast spoiling foods on hand such as mushrooms and fruits and veggies and also made my husband hunting kits which he said were like being at home in the dark cold forest. I am looking into making travel kits such as bone broth, fruit purees to add to smoothies or milk or into yogurts for extra nutrition. There are so many sizes of mylar bags that flat pack and one small 4x6 can hold a family’s worth of food powder, a quart can hold 2-3 servings of regular soups, and a gallon (8x12) can feed 4-8 adults. The weight is mere ounces as well. For short term trips, I would buy the mylar that has the clear front so it can be inspected without opening. They are TSA friendly. The foods don’t last as long and be very care when opening. Treat as if fresh. FD foods are extremely hydroscopic and will draw in moisture from the air so keep it closed until used. Our favs are spaghetti, stroganoff, stews, and hamburger rice meals. So filling and healthy and morale boost while giving utmost nutrition. -think mountain house with it the sodium and preservatives. Traveling with FD food can also be a literal life saving aspect when food allergies are involved. Your food your sourcing.

    WOW! I just discovered your channel. I've never seen such practical cooking stuff for on-the-road, and things that take up so little space! It's really quite amazing. Thank you for sharing the product links, I wouldn't even know how to search for those things...I loved the folding cutlery, the drip coffee...oh and the huge tea pot that folds to nothing...and everything that folds to nothing. I don't like wasting time in restaurants when I travel...I'd rather be out and about and this travel kitchen is wonderful. (I remember the days in Paris when there was "no picknicking" in the hotel room...I did it anyway with very clumsy tools. Thanks again. I subscribed...Suzi

    The Dollar and a Quarter Store sells cutting boards that are about the consistency of a hard plastic report cover as well as square silicone trivets that can double as coasters and small paring knives that have a companion locking sheath. You actually CAN open food cans with no can opener but it does make some noise and you need a cement sidewalk or something comparable. You just turn the can upside down on its top and rub the top of the can against the sidewalk in circles over and over until the friction slightly heats the top of the can. The glue holding the top of the can in place will loosen and you can take off the top. Just keep rubbing and testing the can lid until you get it off.

    • @TheoryofSimple
      @TheoryofSimple  Год назад +1

      Thank you for sharing that. However, I do think I will just keep my little handy can opener.😊 at the time that I needed the canon printer. It was January in Boise, Idaho, and pure ice outside so I don’t think I would’ve been able to heat it up enough to get the lid off.😊

      @@TheoryofSimple Nooooo...... I was just responding to your comment saying "You can't open this (the can) without this (the can opener)."
      Yes it's a bit "extreme" but if you ever get caught without a can opener again, you don't have to go hungry. It works! I've tried it!! (This was when my opener was just too old and stopped working.) LoL. Say you're out in the wilderness and find you forgot the can opener (although you really wouldn't be likely to be taking too many cans out there unless maybe you could drive to your destination), then just find a flat rock (if you can) or keep a small piece of sample tile with you (like I have to set my glue gun on for arts and crafts). Use any flat surface to get the lid off. There's no need to go without food just because of lacking an opener.
      (Another situation in which someone might use this is when a homeless person gets canned food from a food pantry but has no opener....... or maybe after a natural disaster (flood, hurricane, tornado, etc.) when things like openers may have been lost. It's always good to know little tricks that keep you fed. :)

    My son uses the wooden top box for school lunches. The box is small but that is where the elastic band comes in so handy to store his drink bottle securely underneath it. They are very well made and sturdy.

    Brilliant idea to cut up sponge! I also pack a colander that collapses down to wash fresh fruit.

      @TheoryofSimple  Год назад

      Thank you! That’s another good idea and if you didn’t want to bring something like a collapsible colander, you could also wash them in a mesh bag and put just a tiny bit of soap with it and then the mesh also help scrub off the fruit😊🙏

    Such an extensive collection!
    We travel with a tiny kettle too 🍵. How you are smarter than I am is…I could not think of a handy way to use my immersion heater. The coffee cups we usually see in hotels are paper and not tall enough…so I gave it away way back then silicone cups were not a thing. 😅. You are entertaining and thoughtful ❤

      thank you so very much!🙏😊I have had many painful lessons in my travels and it sounds like you have too! It seems like since the pandemic, the hotels in efficiencies don’t have much in the way of anything for us to be efficient! So I always like to be prepared! Silicon really has changed the way we can travel these days!😃

    Just out of curiosity, I would love to see how you organize all your travel items at home. I'm sure you have a system so you can look at the different bags and accessories and pull from them to accommodate your particular needs for each trip. I'm picturing a closet with various bins dedicated solely to your travel items.

    I did not know this was the video I needed!! Awesome information that never occurred to me!
    Just earlier this year my husband and I spent a week in Jamaica. Having a travel kitchen would have been great for breakfast and late nights.
    But the worst part, our flight back was delayed and we along with another 110 people were stuck overnight in Chi Unexpectedly. And even though we got hotel and meal vouchers, by the time we got to the room it was after 11p: hotel restaurant closed and Door Dash overwhelmed with orders. I was so HANGRY all night. I Love the Travel Kitchen idea!!!
    My kids are grown, but I know this is so super useful to parents too!

    You have such great videos and I learn a lot too. I too carry a portable kitchen, though not all the time and depending on where I’m going and how long I’m staying. I get so tired of eating out not to mention how much it’s costs. I also often take my own food for the plane - the food is generally so awful. Thank you so much!

    • @TheoryofSimple
      @TheoryofSimple  Год назад +2

      That is awesome! Especially now, when Mr. lines are not serving any food, and many restaurants and hotels are not serving food late at night or at all. I think it’s more important than ever now that we have something that we can bring with us on the plane and in the airport also because of the delays that have been happening the last time I was laid as in Albuquerque and by the time we got to our customer service experience everything in the airport is close including the restaurant at the hotel we stayed at so thank goodness I brought bento boxes for that trip!😃

      @@TheoryofSimple Great idea to do a boat video. We have a park model trailer, like a miniature mobile home with a loft up at the lake here in Ohio. We have had it for 20 years. Now a boat. So, I have learned how to save space pretty well over the years with 3 kids but there is so many new products out now and so so easy to purchase. It’s a game changer now. I to have been stranded traveling, too so having a few things with you can make a huge difference. You don’t realize until it happens to you. My daughter was stuck 3 days in Minneapolis trying to get home to Ohio from LA in that bad storm for Christmas this year with her English Bulldog. Everything was closed. She was so thankful she listened to me on a few emergency things to pack. See, sometimes mom knows something. Thanks again. Great videos.
