  • In 2003 when this was built, I'm sure it was to make the car smooth and quiet. At idle, you can bearly hear it and it sounds like I've stalled it.
    No longer...

Very nice! I've got a 2.5 with the dual exhaust and have been looking to make it sound less grandma-ish

By the way. Mine is also a 2.1 Petrol V6. I had a 3ltr and it was much noiser when I stepped on the gas. I sold it for the quieter 2.1ltr and also because the 2.1 is much easier mechanically to work on. The FWD has less drive components to look after than the AWD. You can also get to all plugs and coils without removing the intake manifolds. I think that a 2ltr 4 cylinder engine like they used on the XE would have been a better engine than the V6. Or even a 2.5ltr 4 cylinder engine would have been a rocket. It would not have been as noisy as the V6. I also have a 1996 XJ6 X330, and that is the car I use on the motorways when travelling long distances. The little X Type is fine around town etc and very easy to park etc. That's w y we love it.

I do like the smoothness of the V6, it does just feel a little underpowered. I have had an XFR at one point, I'd like to get back to one of those at one point!

Sensible comments and I agree about the mechanical simplicity of the 2.1 versus the complex drive line of the bigger engines and their AWD system
Yes , they are quicker and power up a hill better but that Jatco auto is right at its torque limit with 3 litre and therefore potentially a real time bomb
      Just simply the facts

With the knocking sound at the rear, have you checked the sway bar bushes. If they look OK you could try spraying them with AT205 polymer engine seal restorer, and leave it over night to help rejuvenate the rubber. It might help temporally and then you will know if it works that you will have to change them. The front sway bar bushes are the hardest to replace. The rear ones are much easier. Good luck and let me know.

I'll give that a try. I also noted the rear shocks are not at their best, the legs are corroded but as far as the knock goes the bushes don't look great. It could easily be the shock leg squashing the bush and causing a knock

Very nice the 2.1 Has a deeper grunt it i think, ive give you a sub...my channel is made.up of mostly content from my 2.5 X Type and i currently have no cats, centre box and small custom back boxes, i apologize quietly before every cold start 😂 The whole exhaust needs a custom rebuild. Hope you keep that sound, it sounds even better when over 3000rpm and the burble when you let off the throttle.

I kind of did a V8 thing, rather than modify the X-Type, I've bought an XFR with the spires exhaust!

my x type had a annoying knock every time i went over speed bump, i found the the rear upper control arm bush was gone so changed both sides and it cured it.

No mate, I bought an XFR, so this one has mothballed! I still own it, but it's been stationary since December.

its only a badges ford mondeo duratech engine.

      @turnerscarsUK  Год назад

Maybe so, but it's still a V6 and a petrol. Have a look at the V6 ford BTCC Mondeo's, not a bad use of the duratech.

Very true, but the engine is a Porsche design bought by ford, hence the reliability esp' at the red line.@@turnerscarsUK

There is so little Ford design left in the Jaguar X type , that it is only a mondeo in the floor shell and underpinning, the body is Jaguar design and built and the Engine Porsche design and the gearbox Japanese.
No Ford rubbish , bar the switches, stalks and minor controls and the wiring harness that was made in Ukraine!
How many Mondeo’s are left on the road?
Not many at all, but the Xtype is still sound and found ( if basic maintenance is carried out and rust is kept under control ) !
They are a good car and nice to drive as Jaguar engineers did a lot of work to refine and remove the cheap Ford inheritance.
