Purchased a Kubota z327 commercial mower in 2013. Wanted more mower than I needed for durability .Every part on the mower is made by Kubota, which I like.
Lightweight is good and what did I use it for it’s a lawnmower ruclips.net/user/postUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend Yes it is lightweight so hence not as robust as our old one. But if you take care it does the job really well.
I expect this mower will last several seasons with decent care. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend Also, I ran across the problem with it not starting the 2nd time I used it. There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.
Trust me on the bumpy yard issue. If your mower does not have something that elevates, reduces the effects of a bumpy lawn, take it from me it can do serious issues to your back.
I used to do lawncare professionally for many years. I have used them all. Zero turn walk behinds. Riders, stand on. From most of the big companies. ( great dane, scagg, bunton, toro etc.) And i will say that out of all the mowers i used the great dane zero turn surfer. Was the best. It was a stand on mower. It was one if not the first stand on. Now everyone has them. There was no stopping it. It would go up steep hills no problem. You could go side ways on hills so steep you could hardly stand on them. It was fast did a great job. But they quit makong them. I talked to the owner of the company i worked for and he said he now used toro grandstands. That is toros version of the stand on mower. He said it is about as good as the great dane was. Zero turns are the way to go. I bought a Husqvarna riding mower for the wife ( thinking she was going to be the one to mow the yard) i ended up mowing it most of the time. So that rider got sold asap. And i got a toro time cutter. I can do the yard in almost half the time.as the rider. And it looks better.
I would look at Exmark and Ariens - I have had both and both are excellent for 2 to 5 acres - get the entry level commercial zero turn - but beware that these are pretty heavy and if you have a real damp yard these could give you ruts - but as far as quality, reliability, and long life with a good cut - man I don't think you can beat either one!
When we moved from a garden home to a 7 acre ranch-style property with 5 mowable acres, I got a Kubota zg127s with a grass catcher for about $5700 9 years ago. It works fine but I wished I could have tried each model on the lot - like 200s, 400s, and 700s. I wouldn't have mind buying bigger if I needed it. That 127s did fine, but it had issues with steep hills and slopes. That model doesn't have brakes so the only way to slow down is reversing the handles, which to me seems like a bad idea. But any way what happens is I pick up speed downhill and eventually I lose traction and start veering off into whichever direction the mower feels like. My brother-in-law bought a new 781 last year and I borrowed it for 2 weeks and wow what a difference. No issues at all on hills and even though both mowers had the same 54 in deck width, I shaved off 2 hours from my normal 4.5 hour marathon. I ordered a new 726x last week and am just waiting on it. Can't wait to start mowing! I won't buy a used mower like a used car. The issue is even though I took care of my mower, after 250 hours you have to baby it. It runs great, cuts great, but I know the in and outs to that mower and I know when something isn't right. The next guy didn't earn the hours and he may not treat it right and may not even know when something is off. I will sell the 127s for probably between $2k and $2.5k, but I may even keep it as a secondary mower.
Very good video, very informative, clear and concise. I just had my lawn tractor did and I have been shopping and shopping some more. This video is very helpful. Thanks much.
I have a 2017 hustler raptor 54 inch with a Koehler engine. Not my first choice in engines. But, to be fair, it’s held up good. I change the oil very mowing season (once a year) but check it regularly during the year. So far, it’s still kickin and I think I’m around 300 hours. I mow my place and a few lawns on the side for extra money. The deck is solid. I don’t try to tear it up but absolutely don’t baby it. I accidentally ram stuff all the time. lol So far, so good. I did have a starter go out on it that the dealer replaced. That’s the only non maintenance part I’ve had to replace that I can think of. One thing I don’t care for is that it’s never been good at discharging the clippings. If there is any dampness at all, it constantly clogs. Even with the plastic clipping ejector “protector” or whatever it’s called, opened permanently. Still clogs. So I have to keep a stick with me to jab the grass out. Doesn’t matter if it’s new blades or anything. Slow mow or paced. That’s the one thing that has me looking at John Deere or Scag. Deere is more in my price range of around 4-5 grand for a solid 54 incher with a 20+ horse engine. Preferably Kawasaki. Good warranty too, though not as long as some of the hustler line.
@@CuriousKL Yeah, it’s my first Kohler and before I had used Kawasaki and Briggs. Those always took care of me, so when I got this Kohler I was nervous. So far so good, though. Luckily.
The deere warranty is only as good as your local dealer. I bought a deere rider years ago because of reputation and warranty. It has been disappointing ever since.

While I agree with much of the advise provided in this video, it sadly highlights a challenge that I and many other rural homeowners face. Within a 200 mile radius of my home is a grand total of TWO tractor dealers, and no factory mower dealers. I have to plan a 3 1/2-4 hour drive to get to a city in order to visit other dealers. As such, that leaves Kubota as my only local choice for ZT mowers outside of the box stores.
Glad I found your channel. Great info. I have a Kubota 42 inch (fabricated deck) and Kawasaki engine. I have been impressed with how sturdy this one is. It's entry level for Kubota, but meets our needs and the dealer is only 4 miles away if any issues arise. Keep up the great info!
My lawn is fairly flat, maybe a dozen trees and 1.5 acres or so. I live in a fairly rural area but there's an Ariens dealer about a mile from me out in the middle of nowhere too. Been considering an Ariens Ikon in either the 42" or 48" cut. I currently have an old style lawn tractor I've had for 14 years now and it's up to 419 hours on its meter. It's a 20hp, 46" cut Poulan Pro PB20HY64T I bought new in 2010 from Western Auto. That store closed a few years ago, but the mower just keeps on going, but I do regular maintenance on the old girl. Should be able to squeeze another season or two out of her barring anything catostrophic like, say, the old hydro crapping out or the Intek's cam doing what they like to do. Not really interested in flying across the yard, but I do like the maneuverability of the zero turns around trees, bushes, mailbox, etc. that my old rider just can't match.
The biggest issue of any mower is what regulations have done to the 'blade speed'. That's because to many people disrespect the dangers of outdoor equipment.
I've owned a lawn care business for over 10 years and have owned and driven many different brands over the years. The worst one by far was a 60" Dixie Chopper! #1, Once I got it home and read the manual believe it or not it said there is no warranty if it's used commercially. WTH! It was a gas hog. It had horrible traction. I had several other people try driving it, and not one of us could get it to drive in a straight line. After just 2 days I took it back to the dealer and told him I wanted to trade it in on a brand new Ferris that cost far more and he refused to take it back! Come to find out Dixie is going out of business because of poor business practices. I got lucky and traded it even for a Kubota 56" with just 12 hours on it with a private person.

Also if you are mowing all 5 acres of the property, a you'll be much happier with a rogue over a maverick. Great video! Looking for a mower to upgrade my 30 year old John Deere 265 lawn tractor(43” deck). Want to be able to pull my plug aerator and because of that have been leaning toward models with the 2800 or 3100 HG drives due to serviceability and higher load ratings. I’m about 190 lb and the aerator goes roughly 250. I only cut just over .75 acres but need to do so roughly every 4 days and the terrain is hilly. Am I in the right ballpark with these requirements and say a 48-54” deck? I also might can another yard or two occasionally.
You are in the ballpark as far as cut width. Unless the hills are too steep for your current mower, a zero turn should be able to handle those hills just fine. The ZT Avenger is going to be the highest quality mower your probably need. With very wide tires it will ride smooth and handle hills better than other mowers of the same price. Otherwise. If you decide that is too much mower for you, Look at the Husqvarna Z200 or a Timecutter with a Kawasaki engine and fabricated deck.
@@BradTrotter88 Not with the amount of acreage you are mowing. If you had around 2.5-3 acres per week of mowing, then a Kawasaki engine might be a better choice. The main thing with the avenger is the 7 gauge cutting deck, super wide tires, and overall wide stance. plus you get entry level commercial grade transaxles, and the engine is a high end residential/entry level commercial engine.
Pro tip know how to build weld and fabricate yourself.#1 tip of all a mower brand is only the frame and deck the rest are bought and pieced together from other companies
All mower companies have both stamped and welded decks. Cleaning out by hand then spraying down the underside of a deck after each mowing session will keep a stamped deck in fine shape. It's the wet grass that prematurely rusts out a deck because the user doesn't clean it out after every or every other mowing.
That is good advice but where I live dealerships charge about $70 an hour for service. The ones we have in my town are high dollar and not very customer friendly. I would buy from a big box store and find a person that will work on it Like I did. This guy will fix and guarantee his work. I was so screwed by dealerships in the past I feel like a blue haired retired whore.
i dont know wrer he is but you cant even buy a uased mower for 2000.00 the mowers he is talking about must be made out of evry cheep stuff or no good to start with around here a 0 turn would start at 5000.00 and up
@@williamwalter4882 Most all have had something wrong with them. Gravely - cracked frames. Kubota - stiff/hard levers/throwing deck belts. John Deere - motors/transmissions. Ferris - uneven mowing/scalping/premature shock bushing wear. And the list goes on. Good dealer service is huge.

There are a lot of reasons it could happen. Hopefully, this helps you. homeguides.sfgate.com/mower-leave-row-grass-between-two-blades-96371.html
maybe you are cutting too fast - try slowing down a bit an see what happens - also make sure your blades are shape and the deck is leveled!
@@TractorBobs thanks a bunch!
@@TractorBobs No worries on the Kokler for my application? I sure have been happy with the FV540C Kawasaki on my old deere--pushing 1000 hours now.
@@TractorBobs I bought timcutter/fab deck with 24.5 HP Kaw motor with my ride... thing is awesome and very strong towing
well said !
What do you think of the Bad Boy line?
I think it's one of the better options on the market right now. Especially because it's a USA company.
@@TractorBobs thanks just picked one up today, better then the John Dear, and they are the only two local dealers near me
I have 5 of them keep "em serviced they"ll last a lifetime.
Get a bad boy with the rubber cushion suspension on the front and rear, Maverick etc..
@@username8171 they ride nice makes it easier if you"re on it for 5 or 6 hrs. a day
i bought a second hand diesel ventrac 3200 24hp picking it up soon how do you rate them.
Solid machine 👌
A new ventrac is like $32,000. So.... I'd assume it's the rolls royce of mowers.
Im looking
Pro tip know how to build weld and fabricate yourself.#1 tip of all a mower brand is only the frame and deck the rest are bought and pieced together from other companies
Stamped decks suck big time. Get the brand that uses only welded decks.
All mower companies have both stamped and welded decks. Cleaning out by hand then spraying down the underside of a deck after each mowing session will keep a stamped deck in fine shape. It's the wet grass that prematurely rusts out a deck because the user doesn't clean it out after every or every other mowing.
That is good advice but where I live dealerships charge about $70 an hour for
service. The ones we have in my town are high dollar and not very customer
friendly. I would buy from a big box store and find a person that will work on it
Like I did. This guy will fix and guarantee his work.
I was so screwed by dealerships in the past I feel like a blue haired retired whore.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂🤣😂
i dont know wrer he is but you cant even buy a uased mower for 2000.00 the mowers he is talking about must be made out of evry cheep stuff or no good to start with around here a 0 turn would start at 5000.00 and up
everyone needs to know how wide their.....deck is
Sad there are no dealers near me
Give us a call, we might be able to ship to you.
My toro dealer couldn’t fix anything ! 😡
Swisher
Sucks
@@williamwalter4882 Most all have had something wrong with them. Gravely - cracked frames. Kubota - stiff/hard levers/throwing deck belts. John Deere - motors/transmissions. Ferris - uneven mowing/scalping/premature shock bushing wear. And the list goes on. Good dealer service is huge.
Bad boy is not a good lawnmower sorry lawnmower I no I got one
keep away from j deer.
tooo much talk omg
You know what videos are.... right?
Yeah that and the speech impediment, I couldn't watch the whole thing 😅
Very informative great advice.
I bought a Toro "timecutter" for under $3000. I needed a 34in cut not a 42. The decks are thicker steel. I highly recomend checking them out.
