@@TheN1ghtwalker Yeah in most cases because it comes across like a 12 year olds fanfiction with zero plot line. Just one thing after another with nothing connecting the pieces. It gives the impression that it was made up on the spot, not planned ahead with things like foreshadowing or subtle hints to ease the viewer in and keep them questioning the truth.

The intent was good but the direciton and writing was like a 13 year old kid fanfic, it was way too fast paced, I had trouble even following one thing before excalibur, his inheritance as a king arthur descendant, the witch that out of nowhere wanted him to herself, the giants, the organization that at one point wanted hellboy on their side, then dead, the leopard guy, it was just too much too fast that it was a disaster, if things had been handled more carefully then it would have been a great movie.
The Queen of Blood arc in Comic are Written so well and good paced...goddamit..but what I expectef?
I believe they just took the sparknotes' leftovers Guillermo had and cobbled it into a film.
Honestly, should have beed at least 2 movies. Or like 3 hours long. I actually liked the visuals and David Harbour in the role.

This is literally the only time I've seen Excalibur portrayed correctly in a movie and it had to be THIS movie.

Imagine seeing them talking about pulling Excalibur out of the stone and trying to say it's portrayed correctly. Please actually read some Arthurian lore before you spout stupid things like this, Excalibur was not the sword in the stone, it was given to Arthur afterwards by the Lady of the Lake, in particular Nimue. Nimue felt the need to protect Arthur as she had given him life, she had the power over life and death and his mother could not bear children, so his father pleaded with Nimue to user her power over life to make Arthur's mom pregnant, so she did. She then used her powers over life and death to enchant the scabbard and sword, as long as Arthur wielded the sword he could bring death to any foe, and as long as he held the scabbard he would have eternal life. That is why Mordred had to separate the scabbard from Arthur before killing him, because it was imbued by Nimue's power.

The scene of Hellboy, full Demon King mode riding a HellDragon is very sick especially the ariel shot. I mean, the ideas and potential that has been wasted here.
Makes no sense for him to ride a dragon. Dragons are stronger than demons. The most powerful "demon" was a dragon after all
Like final scenes when all hell demons killing people. Best scenes, but such a waste end up short minutes.
To be honest, right up to the moment when he landed, the visuals, the soundtrack and the fact that Anung-Un-Rama was wielding a sword of fire made me think he was gearing up for a war. That moment when he ran down the tail of his steed and took a flying leap into the living hell looked and sounded like an intro to a videogame.
But then he lands. What we presume to be an demon army is instead revealed to be nothing more than a crowd of terrified humans...and Hellboy starts swinging.

@@Kougeru Actually, it'd make perfect sense for Hellboy to ride a dragon since he's the *King of Hell* after all meaning that he rules/has dominion over any hellish creature imaginable regardless of how powerful they are. So even if the most powerful "demon" was a dragon, it still pales in comparison to the power and rank of a Demon/Hell King.

I like how Excalibur is more similar to a Roman gladius than a knights long sword considering it was supposed to be ancient in king Arthur’s time (600ad ish) making it likely either a Roman or Visigoth sword
It could be said this sword would be exist in the similar time of Arthur's legend appear. But Arthur is suppouse to be Celtic, while that sword in the movie is follow Germanic culture design (not Roman Gladius). They should use Celt culture sword which is have different design for the hilt compare to Germanic.

Excalibur is a sword of destiny. It unleashes and aids potential, creating the "perfect" version of its wielder. If you look at King Arthur, you could say that he was as much a bad guy as he was good. Arthur and Merlin were ushering in a world where the new gods were taking the place of the old customs and the old gods. Morgana was trying to bring back worship of the old gods and keep the old ways alive. By using Excalibur, Arthur destroyed people (druids) who were fighting for the survival of their culture.

@@Dakarn this is an interesting view of the King Arthur Myths, it would be interesting to read a story where the protagonists follow the old ways, and their way of life is being usurped by a christianizing order of knights. Arthur could still have the magic sword and everything
@@mr_girr3488 Yeah. If you watch all the movies about King Arthur (The pre-2010 movies where they start bastardizing the tales in good ol' Hollywood fashion.) there is a common theme. It always revolves around Morgana trying to topple Camelot and return the world to the old ways of the Druids, using Mordred as a spy/mole. In the BBC show "Merlin" you see King Utred banning the use of magic, and taking on more of a Christian type religion. Following the common theme, it wouldn't be much of a stretch to imagine that Merlin/Emerys would have been told by his Druid Spirits (The Lady of the Lake, etc) that the old ways must die to make way for the new, following the cycle of life. Creation is destroyed by Entropy, making way for Creation of something new.
Compared to most Excalibur's in movies, that one is somewhat fairly close to approximating reality. The hilt is a bit too modern, and the blade is more medieval than early migration era, but at least I can see what they were trying to go for. Much better than the late medieval swords usually used.
I had an idea what if Excalibur was a bronze long sword but enchanted.

@@blackpowderkunthe problem with that is how breakable and not long lasting they are, and long bronze swords are almost non-existent in northern British Celtic cultures. The most you could get is arming sword length that was single edges and NOT double edge. It would HAVE to be early iron age to be still lasting in better condition than bronze battle ready.

it's not that bad, i really liked it, watch it for 3 times already, it's fresh, colorful, gory,dark and the actor that play hellboy really good, acting like a teenager trapped in a demon body, but it is not perfect, story could be handle better and some of the dialogue can polished better, but overall this is good, especially baba yaga scene, it's really really good, i wouldn't mind sequel, but still ron pearlman version hundred times better, this movie got too harsh treatment, before i wasn't planning to watch this because of the reviews, but i'm glad i watched it, worth a shot.

I’m not gonna lie I didn’t actually have that many issues with this movie I kinda expected what I got the whole time and there was some parts that had me smirk a little I’m not sure if it’s just because I didn’t have preset expectations or I just didn’t really care enough to get mad at it but it was an alright movie

Movies that are in the grey area tend to get most of the hate. Laughably bad movies can become cult classics it happens all the time. Good movies especially if it has a nerdy/geeky fanbase get revered as the greatest thing ever made.
I watched it hesitantly, it isn't super horrible but the pacing was entirely too fast, loved the gore, the other characters, the cgi was pretty cool, but the main reason is pacing which is down to bad writing.
And I am partial to Del Toro's film, and they could have given people what they wanted to see, a third film to tie the other two films together. This is what should have happened.

For unfortunately good reason. As a standalone movie this one isn't necessarily BAD...but it certainly isn't great. A hyped-up soundtrack and flashy visuals do not a movie make.
I have yet to see this Hellboy, but the first two were more Jim Henson Lovecraftian comedies than something truly about a demonic being antihero to me.
i watch the first two since kid and keep rewatching it from time to time, hellboy is my favorite superhero movie, but this one isn't as bad as people said, it's sure jot perfect, but i think people judging it too harsh. but i think most of the hate comes from the fact that hellboy 3 got cancelled and i can understand i wanted to see it more than ever, hellboy 2 left with giant cliffhanger

The general concept is great, this story probably will be a lot better under the direction of Guillermo Del Toro, who is more meticulous, I would save this scene, the demons and giants brutal scenes, the return of his friends of course Ron Perlman but this actor did very well too

Believe or not, he is. In Medieval literature, Merlin could use magic thanks to his non-human heritage. Just like Hellboy, he's a cambion, a hybrid born from the union of a demon and a human.

No. I think Merlin was a good guy. He thought that Hellboy, who was from King Arthur's linage, could use Excalibur. Only Arthur's linage could use Excalibur and only the Excalibur could kill Nimue. The problem was that Hellboy is a demon. I think the sword adapts the scence of who use it. Arthur was a man of god. Hellboy is a demon. So the sword went "bad". But in the bottom of his heart, Hellboy was a good guy, so he could stop his darker side and beat Nimue with excalibur. PS: sorry for my bad english.

Keeping it somewhat lore accurate...than they break it with the wrong lore. Excalibur is the sword from the lady in the lake. It was given back to her upon his death. Never was it in the stone. That's a different sword, only used to crown Arthur.

The Excalibur is my favorite weapon.
I'll give them a point for that, even though the film was bad seeing Hellboy use a sword and his full power to destroy anyone is badass. they didn't do that in the Guillermo del toro film, all they had him do was just look down breathing looking at the camera this is badass but that's the only thing I'm going to say about this film

Reason why Hellboy wont get the sword, is because, he knew if he get the sword, the world might end and he will become the antagonist. Thats why Hellboy does not want the sword

A lot of you really hate this movie which is fair I guess. But it had some of the best Hell taking over Earth scenes I've seen in any movie. All the different demons rising up and slaughtering everyone, so fuckin cool

The sword Arthur pulled from the stone wasn't "Excalibur". He got "Excalibur" from The Lady of the Lake, who later became Merlins wife. I bet anything Del Toro would have at the very least got that right
