Thanks for the comparison of the two..Now I am sure I want the street glide..the fairing on the Roadglide is to far away, and the instruments blind you..not so on the street glide... thanks Phil- wichita,ks
I realize this is an 'old' video, but I have to comment because I really appreciate your impressions. I own a RGS and had never ridden a Street Glide before. I test rode a SGS a week ago and was blown away but also confused that it felt like it was much more agile/nimble at slow speeds. The easier stopping and slightly better pick-up made sense given the weight difference. I couldn't find any reviews to support my impression, but one of the parts guys at the dealership told me that he completely agreed with my assessment and that he had the same impression. Your video is the first I've seen where someone stated the exact same impression as mine. It was striking and I haven't been able to get over it since then. I LOVE my RGS, but I still find myself wanting to go and test ride the SGS again, haha. Great videos and channel. I noticed you're not posting much, anymore, though. I hope all is well. Stay safe.
This year 2019, My H-D Heritage Softail Classic turns 25 years old. Owned her since new in 1994. This year I will be able to run Antique Tags, on it for life for free, here in Arkansas. Still has the original 80 Cubic Inch EVO engine. Main upgrades over the years, Vance and Hines Exhaust, Mustang Seat, Memphis Shades Windshield. Short Story on windshield. I attended a Motorcycle Rally in Skull Bones Tennessee. I just had my bike and a tent, I attended by myself. Arrived around noon. At about 4:00 pm that afternoon the wind picked up and blew a lawn chair up and into my windshield. Did not break, but horrible scratch. The guy who owned the chair gave me his insurance information and they mailed me a check for a new windshield and labor to install. Overall, everything worked out great. Except, the ride home to Little Rock Arkansas was really cold on the return trip. Peace!
You had the exact same reaction as I did when I rode my 2019 street glide for the first time-Smooth! Good torque, great handling, and I had to have one!!! Sold.
My new SG 107 flat out pulls the bike I traded in, 2013 FLD 110 stage 3 kit. I can,t wait for spring. Its sitting plugged in with only 63 miles on it......
I hear ya! It hurts to have them stowed away during the winter... I managed to get 698 miles on mine before the weather changed... Thanks for watching and commenting!
+John Meredith Shawn is just anti-Road glide. To each their own I prefer the road glide over the street glide hands-down. Enjoy your bike and ride safe.
I'm a road glider too - I prefer them over street glides myself - I feel like everyone has a street glide - I like to be different. And I love the fairing better than street glide's. Not sure why Shawn hates on the RG - but to each their own! Can't wait to try out one of the new ones! Ride safe.
Road GLide 853lbs SGS 830lbs wet 10:1 compression 111ft lbs.. yeah they finally upped the power, funny that they took it right to Indians specs. The thing about it that you are probably feeling is they most likely changed the throttle progression mapping. With ride by wire you can change how soon you get how much of the throttle, you can make it be completely linear or you can make a gentle curve and it sounds like they made it so the throttle is engaging quicker and you are getting it to launch without really opening it up. Yours you have now never seems to take off as quick with low throttle input.
Thanks for taking us along for the ride. I had a 2007 RG new. I had a Honda GW also, so I bought the RG 'cause I liked the open feeling of it, like the GW. Now that they moved the speedo + gauges up top on the SG, I would probably get the SG. When turning the RG there is less weight on handlebars for parking lot maneuvers. Like the looks of the '17 SG.
I started in a 2014 Iron 883, rode for 6 mos, then traded up for a 2015 Dyna Wide Glide. At what point do people trade up, if at all, for a SG or a RG?
I got the chance to ride an ultra limited also on Saturday with the ol' lady. it was just beautiful. it took so much to walk away from it. it hurt the soul....
Oh Eddie, I know the hurting soul feeling that you speak of!! It was tough watching them pull in that red 2017 SGS as they were closing down, and not my 2015 SGS trade-in... Lol I didn't get the chance to ride the Ultra Limited, but it must have been amazing! Like a beautiful woman (or handsome man), these new bikes are going to leave a trail of broken hearts from those who can't purchase one right away... Thanks Eddie! Be safe out there sir.
Almost bought a 16 sg but heard of the changes coming so I had to wait and see what they did. So glad I waited. Thanks for the review. I also couldn't agree with you more, the sg probably is the sexiest cruiser out there. And by the looks from my last trip the entire nation also thinks so. The sg is turning into the iPhone of the cruiser world.
Never ridden a Harley, so I don't know what it's like, but apparently it's a whole different ball game when you throw your leg over one. Would love to have one in the future tho that's for sure.
Shawn, I noticed that the test Street Glide had the horologicydrolic clutch option on it which would account for the smoother clutch. Is that standard on the Milwakee Eight's?
I wasn't sure about the RG when I bought my RGU last year either but after riding it awhile, I'll tell you it's my favorite bike I've owned so far. thanks for the demo rides, these 107s are pretty fun to ride I took out a street glide a well. I can't wait to try a 17 Road Glide Ultra!
So i was upgrading from the Softail Slim S to Ultra Limited 2016, obviously many great offers on them because of the launch of the 2017's! And i thought, well the difference won't be that much. After watching this video, i guess i'll just wait for after the first recall of the 2017's and just go for them. Dunno if you noticed, but the excitement in your voice kinda says it all. Again, thanks for the video Shawn..
Yeah it has the hi pitch whine of a VRod. But it does the roar thing of the 90s harlies more then the VRod. Which is my favorite Harly by the way. I want 1. Too bad they're gonna get rid of it.
When I was in Doha Qatar working for Maersk Oil Qatar, I had Two (2) Harley Davidson's. I has a Soft Tail Springer that I purchased from a good friend, Tom Rasmussen, for US$10,000 and a Harley Davidson V-Rod that I purchased at the Harley Davidson shop in Dubai for US$ 15,000. The V-Rod was Water cooled and both were very good Motorcycles
That new street glide is awesome. so much power. feels like you could get her to about a buck 30 with no problem. i really hope you can get that bike bro.
DANG IT!!, I knew I shouldn't have watched your test ride video, now I have to go check it out. I also have a 14 SGS and love it, hard to believe they improved the scoot. It would take ALOT to pry my 2014 SGS from under me.
Another great review SS. Now I'm very curious about the polarizing lens on your Vlog camera. I know it's off topic, but what camera do you use that takes a polarizing lens? I wondered why your videos looked that nice.
Harley was pretty smart to put their new engines on the bikes that will get the most miles in the least amount of time. So if there's any problems they'll show up fast and get fixed fast.
All the Ultra models are twin-cooled... I kinda got wrapped up with the '17 SGS and stopped test riding units for the day. I'm almost afraid to ride one of the CVO's, as I'm sure I'd become obsessed by it, and that's way too much money..! Lol Thanks Thomas!
Shawn Smoak I'm sure your wife would understand if you came home with the CVO model of your choice. I think I'd prefer the liquid cooling that some Harley models offer though, the next time around.
Yes sir. Hey Shawn. At the HOG open house. Man they just cut us loose. We signed in got a card and rolled out. But im a new rider and i can tell the difference. Next year when we meet up. We both will have the new new. I dont know if i can contain myself. Love it!
Hey Shawn, I have been watching your videos since you got your Iron. Seems I am on the same path as you and looking to upgrade next year. Would love to buy a street glide but worried about the size and weight. Probably gonna go with a street bob if all else fails. How was you transition from the sportster to the street glide. I have 3 seasons on my xl1200r currently and consider myself a pretty safe and good rider. Thanks!
I'm a spyder rider but I have to weigh in on that the SGS is so much better looking then the RG. but as yall say, it's a personal catch of the eye thing I suppose. I would like to see ya vlogging,on that Brand spankin new SGS in that color paint job. Hope you can work out a deal with them. Ride safe man!!!
Shawn, I totally agree about the Road Glide being not as attractive, do you think the Road Glide acts differently because of the differences in rake and trail? I read that the Road Glide is only 50ish pounds heavier in weight, but I know that the Indians ride differently Chief to Chieftain...the rake angle change makes the steering heavier on the naked Chiefs...
Hey James, the rake and trail are the same between the SGS and RGS, in fact, they are literally the same bikes other than weight and fairing mountings... You can feel all that fairing weight of the RGS big time! The Road Glide Ultras have all the different frame specs, a lot like the Chief vs Chieftain that you mention... It's wild how much more responsive the Chieftain, Roadmaster and the ever so lovely Springfield feel over the Chief line of Indians. A little frame geometry change can make a huge difference... Thanks for watching and commenting James!
Thanks for responding, Shawn. I guess I'm not as up to date as I want to be, I was not aware that the geometry was now shared among these Big Twin models. I knew at one time that the late shovel FLTs had a weird steering head design that put the tubes in a different configuration than the FLH models (they looked backwards compared to the FLH), changing the characteristics of the front end handling. I have been away from cycling for a while and I need to get back on! I do love the Springfield as well, it is the perfect combination of style, accessories, and simplicity from Indian. I have always loved the Road King as well, though, for the same reason.
Hi Shawn. I enjoyed your video as I do all your videos. Do you remember the first video you made? How long have you been recording? When did you decide to make a hobby/ life style out of it? You could probably make another video just out of answering these questions. Lol.
Due to many reasons I haven't been able to watch anyone's vlogs in a while, so I was completely surprised to see you got a new SGS. She is definitely a beauty. It seems to me almost every model Harley makes got a rear suspension upgrade this year even the Sportsters. Now if they would only upgrade the Sportster to a six speed. Now to get caught up with everyone including The Smoaks. rsb
I have to ask you - does the throttle seem weird to you? I've been on an 05' Heritage now for nearly 70,000 miles. No bike payment since 2010, sweet! My throttle is like butter, smooth as can be (I have a throttle cable of course). I test rode a 2017 street glide special the other day and the throttle felt like there was so much tension in it that it made my hand sore after 10 minutes. It honestly felt like somebody else was on the other side of it and pulling the throttle towards them while I was trying to accelerate. Maybe it's my having no experience with they way they do them now, but I kinda hated it. Couldn't believe have quick that bike is stock though. It really is the quickest Harley I've ever ridden.
Well i must be in the minority but i like the Road Glide, rode one Friday at the KC open house at the assembly plant. Sure was nice and responsive. Now if I can get my wife to buy me one, LOL.
Ur not the only one to like the Roadglide better. I rode them back to back and bought a RGS. Shawn is decidedly anti-Roadglide which is obviously his perogative. I've been riding one for 6 months now and never had the gauges flash light in my eyes. Just sayin. Lol I also like riding with apes and think the SG looks like crap with apes. Out of the two I rode the SG and RG, unlike for Shawn, the RG felt WAY nimbler. It handles noticeably better and the throttle response was identical. Diff strokes for diff folks is what it comes down to. I'm 6'1 and everything pushed away from u was more comfortable for me as I felt cramped on a SG. But what u like and what inspires u to get out and ride. Be safe. Richie
I am 5'8, I like the Road Glide better too. I almost dropped the Street Glide when demo riding. it feels top heavy to me. Road Glide feels lighter since the fairing is not attached to the handle bar even though RG is actually heavier overall.
+Chuck Lui I absolutely agree. Like I said I rode them back to back and to me the road glide was the better bike hands-down. It also came to buffeting. My head was getting beat around as if there was no fairing while riding the street glide at highway speed. I had absolutely no buffeting on the RG. Richie
This is why I don't do test rides cause I always walk away with a new bike . Just turned down a deal with Harley cause the interest was to high and my trade in was to low ...
+Carlos Reado - Heck yeah, whatever it takes, get out there and enjoy the ride! The bike doesn't matter as long as you're out there riding it... Thanks Carlos!
I have a 2016 Indian Roadmaster and of course the 2017s have the new built in navigation (a feature I would really like). You are correct...they will always improve and get better so you have to accept it (or spend an awful lot of money upgrading each year) LOL. Definitely think the Street Glide is nicer looking of the two but I like having the fairing. Good luck...I'm guessing you have a lot of thinking to do :) Cheers - Kevin
Shawn, I really enjoy your candid motorcycle reviews. i have always wanted a Road Glide, but your excellent report may have changed my mind- not easy. James
...I just don't see how you feel there is such a significant difference in size between the two. Or at least enough to warrant you feeling like you have to "be serious and attentive". Makes me wonder what your height is. We can all see the gopro has a lower view slightly on the RG. I guess your reaction just took me totally by surprise is all. OH!, and from this ( 4:04 ) moment forward, you will now be considered to have completely rotten sense of having absolutely no taste what-so-ever... LOL :)
some people are so in tune with machinery that they can feel little differences, that's why some racers are better at setting up bikes for different tracks and others are hopeless.
You need to get off the weed lol ! The Road Glide is the best looking and riding Harley Davidson. Just my opinion lol. I traded my 2016 RGU for a 2018 RGU stage 3 114. The 18 is so smooth and will run circles around my 2016 stage 3. I have had all kinds of bikes had motor work custom dyno tuned and all that crap. The 18 M8 with the Screaming Eagle smart tuner is the beat running bike I have ever owned. Harley got the tuning and Motor right on the M8 !!
You were in love with the Indian Dark Horse, now this!! It's a good thing you aren't as fickle about women or Kelly would be kicking your butt!! HaHa!!! I'll be keeping my '14 Softail Deluxe. I loved it when I bought it and I still love it now, even more!!
+grprather - Just avoid riding one before you're ready to buy one, as you'll sell your soul to the devil to buy it once you ride it..! Lol They are incredible for sure!! Thanks for watching!
Im kinda old school...I would never buy a 1st year all new design...there always seems to be kinks to be worked out...remember the twin cam tensioner implosions...for 1...I'll wait and watch
Totally agree about the look of the Road Glide. Absolutely the ugliest motorcycle on the planet. I pick up my 2017 Ultra Limited (two-tone red ) next week and will drive it from Oregon to my home in Alaska. I ALMOST popped on a 2015 two years ago and a 2016 last year but got tied up dealing with a new boat. Based on your reviews and others, I am REALLY happy I waited. My brother in PA bought a 2016 Street Glide Special and is bummed that he didn't wait a year. But like you said, there's always going to be something better and if you keep waiting you'll never buy anything. I guess The stars just lined up for me this time. Good luck and stay safe.
+Brian Thompson - The camera location makes it appear that way, but the rider clearly sees everything quite well, not a problem whatsoever... Thanks Brian!
I did a quick demo ride today and the whole time, I was hootin' and hollerin' in amazement. This bike is a WHOLE NEW BALLGAME! You are SOOOOO right! Now I am seriously thinking of a trade!!
Thanks for the comparison of the two..Now I am sure I want the street glide..the fairing on the Roadglide is to far away, and the instruments blind you..not so on the street glide... thanks

I bought the new Road Glide, I like the way it looks. Harley improved the suspension, transmission, clutch and gave it some punch, I love it
I should say Road Glide Ultra
+John Meredith Shawn is just anti-Road glide. To each their own I prefer the road glide over the street glide hands-down. Enjoy your bike and ride safe.

That's why they make different kinds, I pretty much like them all
I'm not a fan of the shark nose fairing either. Love the batwings though.
Road GLide 853lbs SGS 830lbs wet 10:1 compression 111ft lbs.. yeah they finally upped the power, funny that they took it right to Indians specs.
The thing about it that you are probably feeling is they most likely changed the throttle progression mapping. OtisENGINEuity the 103 don’t feel like a M8 because it’s not an M8.
Thanks for taking us along for the ride. I had a 2007 RG new. I had a Honda GW also, so I bought the RG 'cause I liked the open feeling of it, like the GW. Uploading this at this time of the morning is gonna make me late for work! Darn you Smoaks!! Great vlog!!
Lol... Sorry Ryan! Tell work that it's all my fault...
Thanks Ryan!
Don't forget about the Roadster!
Oh I definitely won't forget about the Roadster! She just may go on the back burner till next year...
Thanks Ryan!
I started in a 2014 Iron 883, rode for 6 mos, then traded up for a 2015 Dyna Wide Glide.

Lol. That test ride lady just smiles and nods....all day. haha
So cool! I need to go for a test ride! I hope they put the Milwaukee 8 into the other models eventually as well!
Almost bought a 16 sg but heard of the changes coming so I had to wait and see what they did. So glad I waited. Thanks for the review. I also couldn't agree with you more, the sg probably is the sexiest cruiser out there. And by the looks from my last trip the entire nation also thinks so. The sg is turning into the iPhone of the cruiser world.
this is one of best review of the new bikes I have seen so far great job.
+Joey Andrade - Well thank you very much Joey! That's awesome of you to say...
Take care, and be safe out there!

@@ShawnSmoak completely agree. Best I’ve seen and my comment is three years later.
Kind regards Beans.
Man that is smooth sounding! I think that this is the first test ride video i have seen too!
As usual, thanks for the ride. Looking forward to a demo day at our local HD. I'm due for a new steed maybe I should pull the trigger.
Never ridden a Harley, so I don't know what it's like, but apparently it's a whole different ball game when you throw your leg over one. Would love to have one in the future tho that's for sure.
Oh WOW! That Road Glide looks so delicious! No doubt the one and only Harley I'd own, and plan too, eventually. Thanks for posting! :-)
Shawn, I noticed that the test Street Glide had the horologicydrolic clutch option on it which would account for the smoother clutch. Is that standard on the Milwakee Eight's?
When they put the 107's in the dyna series & heritage classics, man o man.
Have you seviced your street glid yet
Well, the Harley shop may be taking care of that... If that answers your question..? Lol
Thanks Dale!
Hello, Touring Midwest.
Hell Touring Midwest. Figure out who I am lol.
So i was upgrading from the Softail Slim S to Ultra Limited 2016, obviously many great offers on them because of the launch of the 2017's! And i thought, well the difference won't be that much. I was kicking myself to when Harley announced this motor. I have a 2016 fxdb. Can't really afford a SG anyways lol.
Yeah it has the hi pitch whine of a VRod. But it does the roar thing of the 90s harlies more then the VRod. Which is my favorite Harly by the way. I want 1. Too bad they're gonna get rid of it.

That new street glide is awesome. so much power. feels like you could get her to about a buck 30 with no problem. i really hope you can get that bike bro.
keep them videos coming Shawn, because I just enjoy the hell out of it all the way down from Baltimore. Ride safe my brother
DANG IT!!, I knew I shouldn't have watched your test ride video, now I have to go check it out. I also have a 14 SGS and love it, hard to believe they improved the scoot. It would take ALOT to pry my 2014 SGS from under me.

Hi Wayne, a full list of everything is listed in the description of every video...
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Got it thanks. Keep up the great
videos!!
I really like the way you reason yourself into buying...convinced me too
Another great review SS. Now I'm very curious about the polarizing lens on your Vlog camera. I know it's off topic, but what camera do you use that takes a polarizing lens? I wondered why your videos looked that nice.
Darn you Smoak from me too!!! Now I am going to have to get me a new Milwaukee Eight, only mine will probably be another Road King. Great job, thanks.
Harley was pretty smart to put their new engines on the bikes that will get the most miles in the least amount of time. So if there's any problems they'll show up fast and get fixed fast.
Hey, does anyone know if he is recording with the go pro hero 4 silver or black in this one ? i appreciate every answer
I have a 2015 roadglide, can we upgrade the clutch to what is on the new ones? I hate mine.
What's wrong with the hydraulic clutch??
hydraulic has nothing to do with it, the new bike has a diaphragm spring that has much better feeling.
Have a 2015 Ultra, guess I will have to get to my Harley dealer and check out the new bike!
They went back to a single Cam on the 8 to get the old Harley sound back.
The whirring you hear is probably the counter-balancer.
Shawn, how much engine heat did you feel?
I have a 96 Evo, and I have ridden the M8. Love that beast, but I still love my old baby. And I too prefer the SG to the RG.
I believe the motor runs cooler as well, Harley certainly have upped their game with these new bikes
Aaah man, I had just upgraded to the 2016 RG Ultra, guess I'll wait a couple years to see how the Miwaukie Eight does :-) RSMF...
Which of the Milwaukee 8's, are liquid cooled, and were you able to test ride the 114?
All the Ultra models are twin-cooled... I kinda got wrapped up with the '17 SGS and stopped test riding units for the day. I'm almost afraid to ride one of the CVO's, as I'm sure I'd become obsessed by it, and that's way too much money..! Lol

Had a road king .. Went to a bmw 1200 gs .. Now this video has me thinking ... Great review
glad to see harley-davidson step into the eighties technology
Thats why I hardly ever wipe the guages or screen on my road glide clean lol
love the color and looks like one sweet ride
I love the color as well. And of course this color would have to be the $3,000 option... Lol
Thanks Nathan!
I hope you get it Shawn!!

I have been away from cycling for a while and I need to get back on! I do love the Springfield as well, it is the perfect combination of style, accessories, and simplicity from Indian. I have always loved the Road King as well, though, for the same reason.
I won't be test riding a new bike because my 2010 96" will be so out dated. you make an amazing video. nice work.
Wow that stock exhaust sounds awesome
Smoak I want to get this new Harley Davidson more now than ever but the jobs are not coming to me
Now to get caught up with everyone including The Smoaks. rsb
Compared to the dark horse chieftain? I know you loved that one!
Do love the paint job though! Very nice bike!
Another great video Shawn makes now want a street glide too!
well done mate great vid first vid I have seen on the 107....... street glide for this bloke down the track, no worries about that lol
Better breathing engine makes all the difference, that and the counter balancer.
road glides may not be to your liking but, they won't get lost in a parking lot like those oh-me-too bikes. "you ride a street glide?" "oh-me-too"
RG's are totally me toos. May not have been two yrs ago...wait yes they were. Saw more RG's than SG's in my area.
It really is the quickest Harley I've ever ridden.
thanks for the review! really interested in the new engine and BAM youre already riding on one. sign me up for a road king.
Be safe.
Richie
+Richard Sak I'm with ya! I'm 6 foot and feel cramped on just about everything. RG was comfy for sure.
WOW!!! That SGS looks amazing. have always hated the look of the road glide, harley needs to get rid of it...........lol
Damn that sounds like a smooth machine!
Milwaukie is in Oregon. Milwaukee is in Wisconsin.
You're welcome. :)
I'll take the one the that fits into my budget. I just want to ride.
Best to wait a year and get the bugs out.......
hope you pick one up!
How did I end up here again?!? Haha. Thanks Shawn!!
love the way u are talking yourself into buying one.lol.I like them both but iam a rk kind of guy.
LOL :)
...oh, and I'm betting the whir you are hearing is the completely new valve train design. Guaranteed!!
some people are so in tune with machinery that they can feel little differences, that's why some racers are better at setting up bikes for different tracks and others are hopeless.
Your not alone about thinking that the RGS is ugly!
영상 잘 봤습니다
Dang, now I wish I hadn't watched the video..makes me want one so much more!
+grprather - Just avoid riding one before you're ready to buy one, as you'll sell your soul to the devil to buy it once you ride it..! Lol
They are incredible for sure!!
Thanks for watching!
I see a new bike in your future? Ride Safe
Milwaukee 8 is awesome.
Good luck and stay safe.
you can't see obstacles with that faring
+Brian Thompson - The camera location makes it appear that way, but the rider clearly sees everything quite well, not a problem whatsoever...
Thanks Brian!
This video is making me Giddy!!!
Oh man, wait till you take one for a ride! Be forewarned though, you'll be upgrading..! Lol
Thanks for watching! Be safe out there.
I did a quick demo ride today and the whole time, I was hootin' and hollerin' in amazement. This bike is a WHOLE NEW BALLGAME! You are SOOOOO right! Now I am seriously thinking of a trade!!
SMOAK! You've ruined me. I woke up thinking about a 17 Street Glide!
Through the mike with eyes shut I swore it did sound like an Indian. The shaking at idle is very Harley.
I bit the bullet and bought one........
Awesome!! Freak'n awesome bikes!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
I love the Road Glide
I want to ride with her
