Dude seriously. Grew up on this and played a bunch of D2R when it first come out and all the boys were back!! But now we got kids and we can’t play like we used to so I watch a lot of Cooley and mf drops and duels. Never even knew the physical duels were so crazy. Still learning shit about D2 like 20 years later haha awesome content.

I was in the group chat where this axe was auctioned haha, it was sold for Chinese Yuan ￥120,200 (~$16,720) after a lengthy battle between a few Chinese and Korean buyers. Great video by the way beating him with $100 gears but last time I checked on jsp Death is banned in melee duels though😂

I used to melee duel a lot when I was in high school, in the late 2000s. I see your point, as it does not look fun, but it is. The gear diversity is so insane, as there are a ton of different rares you can use to build your character.

I was a part of this community for several years, sold my char to spend more time with my fam. Casino specifically is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, as are a lot of the people in this vid. It's a very fun group of people, and toxicity is quickly booted out in my experience.

The thing is the reason why grief is banned in melee duels is because of the venom. . . Melee duels take a minute of swining. So if someone's poisoned and rng doesn't end it, the unpoisoned person has a massive advantage. It has nothing to do with it being 2 good.
Specifically, it was implemented for BvB whirlwind fights, and it became standard across all melee duels over time.
Bet you I could have beaten every one of them on a 100 dollar fireball sorc.
I use to play back in 2005ish and I was probably the most active PvP'er on all USWest, there was only 1 person who could take down my FB sorc(Oreo). And who knows, he could have been cheating cause I never seen one other person with a Paladin like his.
Strength is one thing, exploiting the fuck out of FCR and off screen shenanigans is another.

Cooley is the reason why I think D4 devs should take lessons from D2... not the graphics.. because D4 graphics is stunning... but in the core level D2 beats anything in this genre out there.

it still matters, if you look at the chat log at the end cooley died to the korean guy about 4 times minimum before the kill. 20% win rate with the gear cooleys running. it's like flipping a quarter and having it land on heads 4 times in a row.
Your FG to $$ conversion rate is about 2 years out of date, and the source for that axe being worth 17k is.... the owner.

as a melee paladin specced for nothing but dueling
i.e. zealot, charlots, certain hdin/charge glitch (idk if it still works - it would make hammers invisible while teleporting around/charge glitching)
same with auradins where you'd go to a3 and charge to stack aura to where you'd go back to a1, run outside and charge around killing all other 7 players
regardless of their gear.
but with d2r SO MUCH is different now... i'm still trying to get used to pve, and since grush/gubers is gone... i still haven't made a proper hdin yet.
nor a smiter for ubers to farm those for torches/annis (i forgot where annis even drop.. isn't it where diablo spawns on map? after someone sells a soj?)

back in the day over 15+ years, i had a group (super small group) where we made ALL our fg, or rather mainly me...
i'd Grush 7 players or just 6. find a bumper randomly or have someone in our group find them whilei was rushing the group
and the ONLY TIME a maphacker could beat me in speed from lvl1 act1, quest 1 all the way to hell and collect what you need
to open the GUbers portal; you'd have your friend block entrance in act5 just below socket quest giver, so no one could come
in and snipe it.
then 2 hdins would set up game to where you trap meph, have the smiter come in while the hdins cleared up the infinite spawns
and the smiter killed diablo and baal i think? - then you'd invite the leveling group who paid for the grush.
it was typically 1-90 for groups.
we'd charge normally about 175-250fg per person for normal-hell providing own bumpers and getting it set up to trap meph
and have the infinite skelly spawns while everyone else could safely stand behind the rock and soak the exp to lvl90.
and naturally there's a number issue (if you noticed we would have to do 2 runs, so we would keep 2 players out that were
replaced with the 2nd hdin and smiter protecting portal; so they could be the bumpers [lowering THEIR cost in the overall runs[)
and since i had memorized ALL the map layouts back then, and never finished explaining the speed without maphacking
the ONLY time a maphacker could beat me in terms of speed was that ONE spot => ARCANE SANCTUM WP
25% chance of getting it right vs maphacker getting it right 100% the certain they zoned in. i had about a 92% win rate vs mh'ers.
cuz this was ALL i did outside of doing MF'ing during the day while they worked their jobs (i was unemployed and out of school)
so at night time, i could focus entirely on making FG via rushing ppl.
i'd occasionally GRush ppl and solo level them doing Chaos+Baal farms and that would just be MUCH cheaper group if my team
wasn't online to do gUbers. meaning they'd pay X FG per run and all items that dropped i got to look at first. and most of the time
i'd give t to whoever needed it first and go down the list. no one would get an item back to back like that.
anyways.
i miss gUbers since you can still technically gRush ppl w/ bumper.
i wish i knew why they removed gUbers... it broke my heart when i found out literally JUST as I BOUGHT d2r....
almost made me refund but i said f it, let's try it out since there's new runewords and new builds that were NEVER used before
and i've YET to finish one character.
i'm still working on my sorc. which started as a blizz/orb sorc. then i swapped to lightning courtesy of friends helping.
but i'm still missing a perf anni/perf torch, GC skillers with +40life, a perf cta, which is fine.

Way way back in the long ago times I use to do stuff like this. Many things in this video are true. EDC is trash, always has been. Death runeword is a very good weapon but it drops you down to a lower breakpoint, as suggested in this video. Whatever RW went into the vortex shields were also bad. Phoenix was good. I remember doing the math and you needed to get like a 3soc visionary (120/45) for EDZ to reach the final BP. Still not sure if that's possible to this day, but I always remember 2soc visionaries being possible.
This was also generally my experience though. There were very few things that beat the EDZ setup.
Keep telling people death is the best melee rw in the game. Grief is just lazy/easy.
I love melee duel, the OG ppl on D2 LOD Classic server would've joined our game "Elite Zeal Duel" back in the days 2002-2005ish hehehehe. Conc barb can join too.
How are you calculating the FG into Dollars cost?

You cant have games like this anymore. Everything is constantly changing and being updated in newer games so none of them will ever be allowed to age like D2. If things aren't constantly changing people complain and devs cave to the cries of the masses. This is why D3, D4 and every other wannabe D2 will never see this kind of committed player base. D2 really is special.

But I'm still pissed at myself for not selling my LoD items when I had the chance. 3x fully kitted characters with 451s and 32020s. 5x hybrid runewords and a ton of GG rare and crafted PvP gear. I'm not investing that all over from nothing, especially when I had the opportunity for a headstart by selling.

The people who have eth fools items, especially the ones eth self repair (don't even talk about the 2 socket ones lmao) got them from botters. It's impossible to find one mfing on your own. I know this because I use to bot on D2 LOD and found a few myself but never found a self pair one.

Oh, and the hit chance calculation.. level matters a lot less the higher in level you get, so for this end game dueling it doesn't matter much, but for the majority of players it's the reason they don't land their attacks

D2's high depth of customization is what makes it infinitely repayable. D3/D4 are shallow, by comparison.
When i was 12 i joined a private server that was basically only melee duels with perfect crafter gear. All gear was "legit" but you didnt have to farm for them just roll for hours, good times

I remember (trying) to build a melee dueler back in 1.10, and man it was expensive. I gave that up and shifted to normal duelers pretty quickly.
Back in Uni, I botted 24/7 with 10 x D2 accounts over a year and had some decent pvp chars. Only to gear up myself. Still could have had better gears, so this game can get quite long if you are perfectionist.
