Peridot is a known Gem, but few know much more than the name. You may not even know the specifics of the color.
Spinel is another Gemstone We talk about here, but it is a more obscure and unknown stone. It is a stone very much worth learning more about. Those who know about it Love it!

I am a March person. For a long time I wore only Bloodstone. I only started wearing Aquamarine when I became 30 but I prefer red gems like garnets or rubies since red is my favorite color.

Thanks for making this video! Peridot is actually my birthstone. When I first saw it as a kid and was told that was my birthstone, I hated it. But it grew on me over the years, and now I’m in love with its bright green color. I have three pieces of jewelry with peridot in them.
Sapphire, and I love them! The color variety and deep fire makes them alive to me. I love peridot also, it’s quite unique and space crystals, too!

I'm a November Child, so I think my Birthstone is the Topaz and I love the name "Topaz". It sound kind of... very deep with a sting. Wasn't there a James Bond Movie about a Topaz? Some say the Birthstone for November is the Citrine and I like the sound of that, too. It sounds acidic. Strangely, though, I don't own any the two. I actually prefer Amethyst. I don't know what it is, but whenever I see jewellery, I always fall in love with something the ones that have Amethyst. Perhaps that happened, when we visited Idar-Oberstein when I was a little girl and I saw a huge cluster (they called it "Druse") of Amethyst inside one of the old caves. I was so astonished and the guide let me have a look through his loupe and close up and when I looked I saw something that was for me like a different world or even a universe. That experience had such an impact on me, that I've been drawn towards amethysts ever since.
If you ever want to see a different world, then look at an amethyst through a loupe :-)

My birthstone is peridot and I didn't always like it. But it has grown on me over the years to the point where I love it, and most other colored gemstones! From what I have read, the word peridot comes from French, and in French the "t" would be silent.
Get a good custom cut peridot. He mentions S west. AZ NM are producing some nice mint greens. Find a lapidary have them cut one. Commercial cut peridot can be so pukey. A new mine in China is producing some nice grassy colors. Most Asian peridot is yellow olive.

I’m sorry to hear that. I find it can be hard to find in nice qualities, but I believe most jewelers carry some peridot. You may have to ask. It may just be in a less obvious location. Spinel can certainly be harder to find though.
I hated my birthstone until I learned more about it.
It felt like a cheap Emerald before but now I'll probably get myself a ring
April baby here. I hate that diamonds are so expensive. I have collections of the other birthstones but it's not easy to acquire bowls of diamonds. I offer my jewels on my alter.

I'm Sapphire but not attracted at all but Peridot got me real crazy and so I got a Peridot ring.
So happy that Spinel is now my birth stone too. Not a big fan of peridot. How about white Spinel as a diamond alternative?

Would you consider pallasite from meteorites peridot if it's the right color?
I think the name peridot came from the leventine name for emerald "petida(singular)/petidot(plural)" that over time got mixed up with olivine and not emerald, giving olivine the name peridot. Its supposed to represent good fortune!!!
I don't think spinel would be a good alternative to peridot since the representations don't align. However, I believe jadeite would be a much more fitting alternative to peridot since both stones represent good fortune.
Spinel would be more befitting as a July birthstone and alternative to ruby since both represent vitality.
But don't be distracted and feel limited to a birthstone, get what ever you like!! :)

Buy a " custom cut". Peridot is relatively inexpensive. So invest the $ you save into a good cut. Find a good lapidary, have them cut you one. For about $200 +/-( unset) you can have a gorgeous peridot. Arizona, New Mex produce some gorgeous mint green mtrls. Asian mtrl, tend to be more yellow olive green. If its a commercial cut can be pukey green. A new mine in N/ E China has some grassy greens.
Get a good cut.

I'm Nov. Love Topaz. But not treated irradiated blue. Nat blue is rare/expensive. I love good Afghani Champion, or Imperial topaz Oruo Petro.

I'm born in August but I personally dislike Peridot because of the color. I mean REALLY dislike the color. Chartreuse just claws at the eyes, and this stone no matter the grade always falls in that color range. Sardonyx is appealing, especially if contrasted in big, chunky silver jewelry (I'm thinking Southwestern), but I've rarely seen it. Spinel looks interesting. I did some Googles and found out it has no cleavage and a hardness of 7.5 - 8. Nice. The refractive index (1.712 - 1.736) is just below corundum (1.76 - 1.78), which is comparable enough. I saw some pics for "cobalt blue spinel" that made my jaw drop.

Spinel is strictly not red. Black spinel is quite nice
My birth stone is Alexandrite, which I have no interest in buying. The cost is high for a tiny stone. Rubies and emeralds are prettier reds and greens and less money than Alexandrite. Luckily I love pearls.
Olivine/peridot/perido is my bday stone, but I don't like it T^T Idk y, as much as I love all crystals it's not my fav.. I would like a some kind of moonstone or rainbow moonstone that is labradorite, selenite, and some other. I do like green tho, but it's just something Idk y I don't fav this one. Okay, no. Sard is the medieval word for BROWN. SARDONYX IS BROWN ONYX.
Red to orange chalcedony (in the feldspar family with onyx) is CARNELIAN.
