Despite whichever of the two is better, the fact that both of these are in the same package for only $50 makes this probably the objective best Sonic game
Nah, all Sonic games drop steeply in price pretty quickly anyway, so the price is pretty much irrelevant to determining how good of a Sonic game it is.
Man, Sonic unleashed exist, forget it!? As long as Sega doesn't make a Sonic Game that has the same level of polish and love as Unleashed, Unleashed will still be the objective Best Sonic game!
@ sonic x shadow generations is way more polished than unleashed. Also unleashed has the werehog and medal collecting which most people don’t like and dread doing, whereas there isn’t really anything like that in sonic x shadow generations. Not saying unleashed is bad but I feel like this is just better
Shadow generations is just so polished, while Sonic generations is good, Shadow generations put into perspective just how unpolished a lot of the Sonic game animations are.
Even then though, Shadow generations still wins. You see the difference in quality from the giant fish in Green Hill, vs the giant missile in Shadow gens? Much better looking. And while the water looks disgusting in Shadow gens, it's still very well animated, whereas it looks more like a moving texture for Sonic gens. Visually, this game is better. Still not undermining Gens though, still really well crafted. Classic still looks accurate to the OG games to this day, and the build up for Sonic's run is Also great. But Shadow generations is so highly polished, it's kinda hard to see any major flaws in it.
@@SonicAndMarioPlushieBuds I mean the example of the giant fish vs the missile is a pretty weird one considering one is from the current gen consoles while the other is from the xbox 360 also the water in sonic gens looks great, just see seaside hill modern, one of the best stages.
@@rolo9115 I do suppose that it's a bit unfair comparing the 2, considering that one is multiple years older, but UNLEASHED's animations are also amazing, and I'd argue better than gens. Then, forces released, and I'd argue that that has worse animation than gens. So the quality of animations can vary within the Sonic games, so I think it's a fair argument.
Just by the controls Shadow Generations takes the win here, and thats not counting the beautiful story, the better hub world, graphics, level design- but OG generations isn’t a bad game at all it’s still the goat of boost formula levels.
I'm not mad that Sonic Generations didn't have a complex story; I just wish it were more than what it was. But Shadow Generations had a really good story. That goodbye was obviously inspired by Archie, and that really hit me. As for the gameplay, I can't pick which game I like more. As for the soundtrack, I love both, but I have to give it to Sonic Generations.
That this video was possible proves one of my main gripes with Sonic X Shadow. I didn't get a cohesive game. I got a new short but fun Shadow game, which had a very basic remaster of Sonic Generations stapled onto it. The two halves of the game feel wildly different in terms of gameplay and presentation, and that left me a little cold.
Sonic Generations 3D stages arent even fully 3D, Shadow's 3D stages are ENTIRELY 3D, on top of being expansions of the level design philosophy of Sonic Generations. Based on those 2 things, and the hub world serving the same purpose as Sonic Generation's hub world, while being more fun, challenging even when youre not in the main stages, AND fully 3D?! Theres no question in my mind, Shadow Generations is the much better game. Even if you prefer Sonic Generations for understandable reasons, theres no denying the fact that Shadow as a whole is a much more refined product, kinda like how no matter how much you love SA1, theres no arguing against the fact that SA2 is a more streamlined and superior experience, or Sonic 1 Vs Sonic 2. But being part of the same package and sharing many elements, they are kinda the same game. Considering Generations was already one of the best 3D Sonic games and Shadow is even BETTER means that side by side, in spite of their differences, these two make THE best Sonic game ever made and it stands TALL above every other Sonic game ever made.
The levels of Sonic Generations (particularly the 3D ones) are far superior to a lot of Shadow Generations levels, but the story of Shadow Generations is far more captivating
I love it how we live in a day and age where we got a sequel to sonic generations. And I really hope Sega uses lessons learned from the gameplay for the future. Because as you’ve shown, shadow generations takes the steps we all wanted to see.
Outside of the story, hub world, and soundtrack, there's not much about both games where I can say one is definitely better than the other. I think both games have elements that the other could've benefited from, like how Shadow has more difficult level design whereas Sonic has more variety via the challenge gates. I don't think I could call either game my "ideal" Sonic game, but I love both of them.
no offence, I don't see where you found the shadow gens level design difficult, except for maybe radical highway. When I think of 'difficult' boost level designs I think of Unleashed.
@woag4974 I mainly meant Radical Highway, the challenge gates, and going for all S Ranks. It's not the most difficult Sonic game, but it felt much more demanding than Sonic Gens in terms of level design and optimization.
Glad to know I wasn’t the only one who felt that Sonic seemed heavy while Shadow felt smooth to play as. I swear that’s what gives me a headache, especially when I’m trying to 100% the game. What really kills me is that not only does it feel like there’s a half second delay for when I jump and I think a weird glitch that pops up a few times where I suddenly speed forward like I hit a speed pad, but also that unlike Shadow who just speeds in whatever direction you point at, you have to wait until Sonic turns in said specific direction or otherwise you will boost in the opposite direction and waste time. That’s really irksome for a game where speed is the name of the game. Fortunately, it’s mainly a problem for the 2D act 2 segments.
As a *Sonic* fan I have to say personally, Shadow Gens wins for several reasons alone for me, Control is just so smooth, control of the character has always been a big component when it comes to Sonic Games for me and why no matter how great the likes of Unleashed of Sonic gens being the best of the Boost Formula they miss with subtle control of the char. Second has to be stage length and stage design, finally substantial 3D levels where the main act doesn't feel like trial runs, not to mention depth in number of path ways. Last but not least, FULL 3D stages. Something a lot of fans had been longing for a while. Even making the 2D being relegated to another act makes me enjoy those more, mainly cause they don't interrupt the 3D spectacle here.
@@rolo9115 In my opinion the 2D sections in modern Sonic gameplay just feels really confined and limiting gameplay and mechanic wise, like Modern City Escape as a prime example compared to the vastness the beginning of the stage is. To going in to the 2D part of the same stage, and that may be nearly other half of the level untill the gun truck chase. Alot of the cases 2D just feels like padding, it's just worse in games where the formula as a whole is done worse. Taking the modern city escape comparison to the following stage in modern seaside hill and it's the complete opposite where 2D sections are brief in and out moments, the open expanse in the number of ways you can approach certain areas is there, not to mention the bob-sled and turtle path gimmicks, the quick stepping on the side of walls etc. 2D just feels like a lull in comparison. That's why I say Shadow Gens doesn't have those weak points. It's like they took the design philosophy of modern seaside hill but without the obligatory 2D parts and applied it to all stages.
i like how the main bosses of sonic generations there's more than one type of boss. You have an arena fight, a stage boss, and a running boss, with a super boss at the end, meanwhile in shadow generations you have an arena fight, a running fight, and an arena fight again with a super boss at the end that's more akin to a running boss than a stage fight/
If they were going to decide to give Shadow his own brand new story campaign to tack onto a re-release of Generations just to risk the possibility of undermining Sonic's own campaign, then for me it just kind of goes against the whole reason why they originally made the game in the first place and shows one of the main issues I've had about this re-release (aside from learning that they also changed around a lot of the cutscenes and dialogue from the original game). The whole reason why Generations existed was to produce something special to highlight *Sonic's* anniversary and the anniversary of his own franchise. That was why Shadow only had a minor supporting role/rival fight in the original release of the game since it was never supposed to be about him. If Shadow has his fans then sure, give him his own spin-off series or whatever, but Generations was meant to be purely a celebration of the history of Sonic's own franchise and series of games in general and not something that was ever meant to be undercut by any of his current rivals. Shadow's campaign just feels like something that could have always been optional DLC content for the main game, but not something I would personally want to ever have to be forced to have included as part of the overall game now or feel was ever needed for the original release at all.
Shadow gens and its not even close. Sonic gens while good is a game from 2011 where Shadow gens took every idea from the past decade and refined it. Mods definately help sonic gens.
Sonic Generations rolls around at the speed of sound. Shadow Generations lives and learns, hanging on the edge of tomorrow. Take from that what you will.
For me, it's the first time playing both games, never had Sonic Generations. I just got done playing through Sonic Frontiers, and I ended up really loving the game, even the frustratingly difficult parts. So since that game is still very fresh on my mind, I really enjoyed the Shadow story of Generstions. The small open world is fun to mess around in, the new abilities are fun to use, even if Morph and Surf are a bit hard to control. Shadow's part feel a lot like Sonic Frontiers gameplay-wise, which is a good thing for me. I'm about halfway through the Sonic Generations part and I'm honestly not a big fan of how "modern" Sonic plays. Classic Sonic is fun and simple but modern Sonic is my least favourite part of the game so far. I wished he'd control a bit more like Shadow, bit maybe I'm just too uses to Sonic Frontiers at the moment. Anyways, still enjoying it a lot so far, with more of a preference to Shadow's playstyle.
25:00 doom zone shpuld have added a hard mode of all stages alomg with more challange gates and some new collectibles. Just one new challenge gate per act and hard hub world challanges and hard bosses (which literally isnt harder... ya just aint got rings) is kinda... why?
Switching back and forth between the two, Sonic Generations feels mechanically janky. The boost is too strong at a standstill while not feeling particularly all that much faster a lot of the time while actually moving. It makes boost-then-jump feel like a complete crapshoot a lot of the time. The homing attack when not locked onto anything feels like one of the worst renditions of the homing attack in the series and Shadow Gens feels better off not even pretending to have a non-lockon homing attack... which is a pity because the SA2 non-locked homing attack has always been excellent. More than anything though I kept wanting the double jump. I find it weird that you didn't get a double jump in Generations just one game after Colors introduced it. I wouldn't mind the lack of a double jump if the jump were more floaty in general like in SA2, but the Generations jump is rough and the game has no coyote time or anything which really makes lacking a double jump perilous.
It would have been great if they added double jump to the list of power-ups yojb can buy in the store. I think the reason it wasn't included in Gens originally was because the game was being designed more around the time of Sonic Unleashed's late dev while Colours was being developed parallel. Bit like how Sonic CD had the peel out but Sonic 2 didn't.
I feel like most of this is just being too used to shadow's side then going to sonic who has a vastly different control scheme. The boost has always been strong and it just does make you move a ton faster even while moving(You can also just stomp after it to easily land). The homing attack when it's not locked on to anything is fine, It moves you a set distance and kills all speed so it works as a good brake. Double jump I agree with only really on planet wisp tho, for the other levels, it's not a needed thing as you can get a big jump from building momentum.
Ironically, the nostalgia is the lesser factor in these. No one loves these games due to nostalgia. Yes, initially in 2011 it was cool to see these classic stages brought to HD, but it's much more than just that.
....I was merely talking about what Sega intended, not why it's liked. Like, someday they should come up with something original. It could definitely work.
I dont think people realize these games story is tied directly to CD, shadow05, Sonic06, and slightly to the rest of the games traveled to in the two generations’. Because of the use of time travel…
Shadow Generations, i love that half of the game the level design is done really well, and I'm happy the controls were so responsive. Sonic generations , imo i like classic sonic stages and extra levels better than modern sonic. I love unleashed and modern sonic in that game plays a lot better imo
Aside from the 3DS version, I never played Sonic generations: however, I've seen enough gameplay to know that I am going to enjoy myself when I finally get my toe. That being said, I can already tell that Shadow generation is the better game after beating it: the game play, the music, and my goodness the character story what's 💯 out of 10 for me
I would have done more with Maria and Gerald. Outside of like two scenes, we don’t really see how they interact. Same with omega. He was just there’s for sake of it I would have had us fight black doom in his normal form Such a good design and it spends 99 percent of its time transparent
25:20 also on collectibles... there are no skins to earn for hardmode. You get literally nothing from it. And you get nothing from s ranking all shadow stages and challanges.
one thing i will criticize about Shadow Generations is that i think its 2D stages dont play with the 3rd dimension as well as Classic Sonic's levels did, they feel flatter, one of the biggest examples that comes to my mind being Sky Sanctuary Act 1 or Crisis City Act 1, those stages, while playing like side scrollers, had the camera and level layout twist and turn in ways that gave the stage more depth, which is something that Shadow Gens doesnt do outside of like, 1 set piece in the Space Colony Ark's Act 2 or Rail Canyon's Act 2
I like them both but IMO Shadow is better in every single way besides music. The controls is the biggest and most standout plus for Shadow Gens. Sonic Generations is WAYYYY too stiff and simultaneously slippery for the level design it has
@@TerraBlue_451 hahaha I agree. I’m glad Sonic Team listened to fans saying they wanted more platforming but to me it just doesn’t work with the controls Sonic has. It’s why I think Unleashed is so much better. I thought the levels were significantly better designed for how he controls. I cannot wait for someone to mod Sonic Gens levels into Shadow. I’m positive it will be a much better experience
I'm thinking that some of the short comings of Sonic Generations can be chocked up to not having the time to flesh out the ideas. Idk if that's the right way of saying it but it feels that way.
Let me put my thoughts simply. I never gave a damn about Sonic Generations. Shadow Generations on the other hand... It almost dethrones Rise of Lyric as my 2nd favorite in the series. Almost, it was EXTREMELY close, but the fact I was even considering it should say more than enough.
@@milesstorzillo7650 I get Unleashed HD because that game is amazing in my opinion. But Rise of Lyric? Compared to every 3D Sonic game released before or after this game, Rise of Lyric is significantly worse than those games. Heck, I think Sonic Forces is better than Rise of Lyric and I don’t even like that game. But I digress.
Shadow Generations was decent but not even close to Sonic Generations for me, I'm going to replay Sonic Generations much more than Shadow Generations and it's a game I've already played many times
@ChannelPup they probably added to classic super sonic's base moveset, but if that's the case, that's weird they didn't change the skill's description to precise it
I WOULD say Generations is better if they’d touched up the physics for Classic Sonic like fans have already done, but since they didn’t, I’d say it’s a tie.
I think both are good but I have to give it to sonic generations. you see the issue is sonic generations is longer with 9 levels 18 acts and 7 bosses while shadow generations has 6 levels 12 acts and only 4 bosses. shadow generations is just too short while sonic generations already had a short game problem! the gameplay is both pretty much the same for 3d but I think I like sonic generations a tad bit more for 2d ill give it to shadow generations. shadows story is better then sonics but its kind off overhyped it just feels like shadow generations isint really a new game but more like story 2 of a game if this was an adventure game for the bosses I would say shadow generations slightly takes the cake but not by very much since sonic generations had I would say 6 good bosses while shadow has 4 better bosses but they are all good but they are the only bosses and no rival battles which connects to the issue of the game being to short. the hub world is fine for both I feel like shadow gens is better but worse because u usually have to pull up a video to understand the open world while sonic gens is simple straight to the point. BUT shadow generations has collectables around the map but they dont accomplish much. for sonic generations and shadow we got basically the same amt of collectables in the actual levels so this is why I say generations is a 9.5.10 and shadow generations is a 8/10. dont get the wrong idea though shadow generations is still my fifth fav sonic game
For me it's impossible to get immersed in the world of Sonic Frontiers. The platforms and rails are completely divorced from the scenery and flicker in and out. Shadows constantly pop in and out. The trees flicker between billboards and models constantly. Sonic's subsurface scattering has been incorrectly configured causing his skin to glow like porcelain. Maybe you have a better time seeing past all that. The islands themselves could in theory look nice divorced from the floating platforms and rails, but it just doesn't come together for me. Rhea Island is probably the best looking island in the game because of that.
@ fair enough, but that’s more of an art direction problem than a graphics problem. EDIT: I didn’t read the rest of it, sorry. Ok yeah this is admittedly a bit of an issue, mainly with sonic’s fur. I wonder if there’s a mod that fixes that.
My opinions: Sonic X Shadow Generations > Sonic Generations (2011 on the Xbox) > Sonic Generations (2011 on the 3DS). Sonic Generations (2024) > Shadow Generations
I personally disagree about the soundtrack. I LOVE the Shadow Generation soundtrack, especially Sunset Heights. Meanwhile the soundtrack for Sonic generations just… doesn’t hit as hard I guess. To me, anyway. Otherwise I pretty much agree with your opinions here
No it isn't "easily" I bet most of you would be saying the exact opposite if Sonic Generations was the new one to come out and that's because you guys flock to whatever is new and start mindlessly praising it then start bashing something else that you used to love. The exact same thing is going to happen with this game, when a new one comes out you're going to start hating Shadow Gens
Speaking on the soundtrack, I don't know if this is a hot take but Rail Canyon Act 2 is on par with the original Bullet Station, just prefer the original because of the riff.
I definitely prefer Shadow Generations because whenever I mess up, it feels like my fault and me being reckless. With Sonic Generations, there is sometimes very inconvenient moments where the drop dash or physics screw you over or the the homing attack extremely rarely doesn't work resulting in an unwanted air dash. I will say they to whoever designed the gondola Hard mode challenge: [REDACTED FOR EXTREME PROFANITY]. That was unnecessarily punishing, annoying, tedious, and boring. Did they let the same sadist design it as for the hidden dungeon in Final Fantasy XV? If you know what I am talking about, you know suffering.
It's Shadow generation but it's a little bit unfair. It's more technically advances, better graphics, refined gameplay and formula. And actual scenarist this time
I love your channel but I don't even have to watch this vid to know which is better. One game is the same great game from 2011, the other is a game wit some of the best level design and mechanics in a 3d platformer of the 21st century. Sega has learned their lesson and has showed us wit shadow generations
In my opinion Shadow Generations is better than Sonic Generations due to 1 Shadow Has a Story to tell and it’s really good!, 2 Polish its so polished that on the PS5, Xbox and PC looks like a AAA Game and on the Switch its strong enough to compare to Mario Odyssey the most polished game on the switch, 3 Bosses the Boss in in Sonic Gens are Iconic but the Bosses in Shadow Gens is just Godly!
Who tf is 100%ing sonic gens in 7 hours. I let my game run idle sometimes when I take a break but it took me 35 hours to S Rank + 100% collection gens, and Shadows side took 33 hours or so. Great combined experience overall.
i genuinely hate the way the controls feel when they playing as Shadow as compared to Sonic. When playing as Sonic i feel like i ACTUALLY HAVE TO PLAY THE GAME and control his SPEED. i see how Shadow has more versatility in the game play style but i feel bored with how slow it feels. i had this same problem in frontiers. i want more fast sonic games, he’s supposed to be fast, need another unleashed
I do not mind shadows controls in shadow gens but sonics are way better. I think sonic generations and sonic unleashed is where the boost peaked the problem is we never got a boost game that was fully a boost game really because sonic unleashed was 50% boost, 50% combat sonic colors is 90% 2d 10% boost sonic generations is 50% boost 50% 2d sonic forces ewwww sonic frontiers is technically fully boost but what I mean is a boost game in the boost style.
Sonic Generations for me and its not really close. And i really like shadow its a very good game. Just their boost levels with different goals. I like the fast paced twitchy gameplay of Unleashed/Generations. I also like how open some Generations levels are. Shadow design is more SA2 in its design where you can see all the options available to you most of the time its up to you to get to the higher paths via planning out and whatnot. It still has reaction based gameplay oc but not nearly as much. Shoadw controls better but the boost is faster in Sonic generations and the level design asks more of you on a moment to moment basis. I also prefer Classic Sonic to the 2d Shadow stages. Gotta disagree with you Pup, classic sonic while not accuate to classic plhysics has excellent multi tiered layrered weaving in and out level design. You really see that when going for the red rings. I love both these games tho do not get me wrong. Theyre different types of boost games
31:05 Superstars soundtrack was mediocre because only half of it was composed by Tee Lopes, not because it doesn’t sound like classic Generations music. Obviously they were gonna bring him back after Mania & not try to emulate Sonic Generations🤦♂️
I meant Jun's tracks. Jun did the music for Gens and the classic style music in Gens sounds much better than Jun's music in Superstars, and would sound a hell of a lot less out-of-place next to Tee Lopes' tracks.
@@ChannelPup Okay, I don’t think it was made very clear in the video but now with the context in mind I agree. Superstars would have been much better if that half of the OST was trying to sound more like Generations and not emulate Sonic 4
I do agree that Shadow Generations leaning more towards dubstep is a bad decision. However, I still think this is the best soundtrack we've had since Sonic Mania. Easily knocking Forces, Frontiers, and Superstars out of the water in that regard.
I get that the Forces and Superstars soundtracks are pretty unpopular but Frontiers too? Frontiers' soundtrack is one of the best in the series, even if a lot of it isn't super traditional in terms of Sonic.
@TerraBlue_451 Personally, I disagree strongly. I ADORE the Super Sonic battle themes, and the open zone themes are passable (if not a little forgettable). But I very passionately despise the songs they went with for cyberspace. They went all in on dubstep, and not a single one sounds good to me. Plus, they all sound so similar that, if I picked one out of a hat and played it, I'd never be able to tell you which of the four level themes it's supposed to have come from, let alone which island it came from or what level it was. And personally, I do like when the franchise breaks tradition. I really like the soundtracks from Sonic and the Secret Rings, Black Knight, and Lost World. It's just Frontiers specifically that chose a rather strange direction with it's music.
@@Eric_Black134 I get it if you don't appreciate the edm, but the songs very rarely sound the same, it's just that the instrumentation is usually pretty similar and the levels themselves struggle to leave an impression, I had the same issue. There are actually tons of standout tracks that I recommend you listen to again, some of my favorites are: 1-3 Digital Cave* 1-5 Dropaholic* 2-1 Slice and Sway 2-4 Hype Street (probably my least favorite of these, very repetitive) 2-6 Transparent Highway 2-7 Floating in the Blue* 3-3 Memory Will Tell 3-7 All Reality* 4-2 Ephemeral 4-4 Wishes in the Wind 4-5 Arrow of Time 4-6 Fog Funk 4-8 No Pain, No Gain 4-9 Signs* *If you don't want to listen to all of them, these are the most unique Sorry if this is a second reply, my first one isn't appearing to me.

@@ultrasphoenixExactly. I don't get what this new wave is about with all of a sudden hating on OG Gens. No one said any of this when it came out... Well at least not to this extent. Some people even say that it's adjectively bad. Which is like calling Super Mario Galaxy adjectively bad

@@xHyqnagreed, I think this specially after spending so much time playing Unleashed. Sonic Gens isn't bad by any means but it kinda lacks that charm and personality that other Sonic games have
the shadow generations controls are just… iffy. i think basically all dash panels should be removed, apart from ones for redirection, i think it’s a major fundamental misunderstanding of how a sonic game should play. the physics should be adjusted to where going through loops without dash panels is possible, i think slope physics should be enabled in all states, especially for rails, makes no sense why rail slope physics were removed, it was far better in frontiers. i feel like the stomp-bounce and drop dash should be added to the game, no idea why they were removed. and the static boost animation should be replaced. this is actually a pretty small list for things to be wrong with a sonic game, probably the smallest of any sonic game ever, i just feel like this is a great game designed around subpar controls.
While I don't agree that it feels iffy or that it outright demonstrates any major fundamental misunderstandings of Sonic gameplay... I completely agree with all the points that made up that opinion. I really want to see them bring a great physics engine in. I think Shadow Gens gets it right in that movement is fun, feels good, and the flow-state is a reward for good gameplay. But I definitely want to see them get physics down.
I think something people seem to miss with shadows controls is how he boosts. I noticed that if your holding the l stick forward while boosting... shadow swerves... alot. And the fact that the d pad goes completely unused is crazy... also... doom morph isnt that good its kinda glitchy. And shadow sometimes feels way too slippery. I prefer sonics movement for the ground to have been used. @ChannelPup
@@gamedestroyer112 I think you just don't know how to properly control Shadow, even Doom Morph gets fun with enough time. In other words, you have what some call a "skill issue"
Before watching, I'm just going to say that Shadow is the clear slam dunk victor here, at least in my eyes. This was my first time playing Sonic Generations, and I did most of the Sonic campaign before moving onto Shadow... and just the way Shadow controlled was enough to make him the clear winner. It was obvious the moment I started playing Shadow Gens that it was leagues above Sonic Gens. Plus the story, that Shadow's final levels and boss aren't the clear worst parts of the game and... Yeah there's no contest in my eyes.
@@rolo9115 I mean in gameplay too. Shadow just felt a lot better to control imo, Sonic was far too stiff. Plus Sonic Gens ended on a low note, Planet Wisp and the Time Eater were honestly just not fun. But Radical Highway and Devil Doom were just as fun as the previous ones to play.

This is what I'm saying
Respectable
Sonic: I love having an adventure with classic me
Shadow: I love having an adventure with my trauma
The levels of Sonic Generations (particularly the 3D ones) are far superior to a lot of Shadow Generations levels, but the story of Shadow Generations is far more captivating
"They act like two legends cannot coexist"
I love it how we live in a day and age where we got a sequel to sonic generations. And I really hope Sega uses lessons learned from the gameplay for the future. Because as you’ve shown, shadow generations takes the steps we all wanted to see.
A modern Flying Battery Zone would go insane 😭
If they ever make more dlc for this game it would be great to see Shadow go through Flying Battery with Doom Wing
24:07 seeing the forces model in the generations setting feels like I’m looking into a dark mirror dimension.
I see, fair points and opinions, this was a very well done Video.
I hope the next Game keeps up the momentum, I wonder what we will get next?
Even making the 2D being relegated to another act makes me enjoy those more, mainly cause they don't interrupt the 3D spectacle here.
the 2d segments never interrupted the 3d spectacle tho, they were well made
@@rolo9115 In my opinion the 2D sections in modern Sonic gameplay just feels really confined and limiting gameplay and mechanic wise, like Modern City Escape as a prime example compared to the vastness the beginning of the stage is.
19:50 I didn't know he can parry you, wtf
Fun gameplay detail
On the point of hub worlds, if I am new to a game, a hub world gives me a safe place to get better at the game
100% this.
I still prefer The OG Sonic Generations tough.
22:40 also... why is there no room for the collection room? Like a gateway or door or something...
20:54 i am still wondering what the white world dor shadow gens is... some of the buoldings dont fit and i dont understand what their there for.
"The story didn't really exist... and I want it to" (shows Mephiles)
I see what ya did there 💜🖤💜🖤💜🖤
Shadow gens and its not even close. Sonic gens while good is a game from 2011 where Shadow gens took every idea from the past decade and refined it.
Mods definately help sonic gens.
you’re saying.. shadow gens.. took EVERY idea? EVERY single one? including controls?
The Final boss comparison is a “hydrogen bomb vs coughing baby” ah comparison
25:00 doom zone shpuld have added a hard mode of all stages alomg with more challange gates and some new collectibles. Just one new challenge gate per act and hard hub world challanges and hard bosses (which literally isnt harder... ya just aint got rings) is kinda... why?
...did you PLAY the hard mode bosses?
This. It took me too many levels to cement I can't double jump as sonic lol
What I'm wondering is if they can pull this off without nostalgia next time...cus somehow all good games since Unleashed are based on nostalgia.
I say thay Gens deserves the win here.
Quite the bold decision, not sure I agree tbh
I dont think people realize these games story is tied directly to CD, shadow05, Sonic06, and slightly to the rest of the games traveled to in the two generations’.
Because of the use of time travel…
OG Gens is over 13 years old now💀
Shadow Generations, i love that half of the game the level design is done really well, and I'm happy the controls were so responsive.
He was just there’s for sake of it
I would have had us fight black doom in his normal form
Such a good design and it spends 99 percent of its time transparent
Despite Sonic Gens winning the soundtrack category, Kingdom Valley Act 1 in Shadow Gens is the best piece of music across both games
I personally love shadow generations story way more then sonic generations but that’s just my opinion.
28:43 Thank god Sega didn't try to add a shit ton of bloom this time!
I like them both but IMO Shadow is better in every single way besides music. The controls is the biggest and most standout plus for Shadow Gens. Sonic Generations is WAYYYY too stiff and simultaneously slippery for the level design it has
Looks like someone can't just use the drift...
@ how are you gonna drift while jumping from platform to platform…
I think Sonic isn't too slippery for his levels but the level design is clearly compensating for something when you see platforms the size of Texas.
@@TylerBR97 Why are you going full speed while platforming? Usually you slow down to do it
I'm thinking that some of the short comings of Sonic Generations can be chocked up to not having the time to flesh out the ideas.
Did you just say rise of lyric was your favorite game 😆
@@chuckymunsterstudios No, I said it's my 2nd favorite. My 1st is HD Unleashed.
You are a rare breed of Sonic fan. At least I hope you are, lol.
I don't know if it was my game glitching, but my classic sonic, using the sonic jam skin was able to drop dash both in and out of super form
I think that's true of mine too! I'll have to check.
Shadow having one core gameplay style is actually not true. Shadow's speed and steering is different in the actual stages compared to the hub world.
Why do people hate the graphics in sonic frontiers? I don’t get it. It’s not as polished as unleashed but it’s not a bad looking game by any means.
Compare vanilla frontiers to frontiers with graphics improvement mod, reimagined platforms and beta shaders. The difference night and day.
@ you got a link for something like that?
@ just check out fanfics on AO3
Pls tell me what game is that
What?
My opinions: Sonic X Shadow Generations > Sonic Generations (2011 on the Xbox) > Sonic Generations (2011 on the 3DS). Sonic Generations (2024) > Shadow Generations
Hot take: Speed Highway is a better stage than Radical Highway, even though the latter is more popular and used
I personally disagree about the soundtrack. I LOVE the Shadow Generation soundtrack, especially Sunset Heights. Meanwhile the soundtrack for Sonic generations just… doesn’t hit as hard I guess. To me, anyway. Otherwise I pretty much agree with your opinions here
shadow generations is brilliant and i am so far enjoying it
Shadow generations is easily the best out of the two. But this game as a package is good value tho
Channel pup vs the top shelf…
I cannot reach.
Yeah you wasnt wrong about the bias.
Id definitely say sonic gen is longer and has more side content, but shadow gen is better overall.
And actual scenarist this time
Well... I don't think it's unfair, considering degradation can happen all the time, and Sonic is no stranger to such things.
I love your channel but I don't even have to watch this vid to know which is better. One game is the same great game from 2011, the other is a game wit some of the best level design and mechanics in a 3d platformer of the 21st century. Sega has learned their lesson and has showed us wit shadow generations
That's not the point of the video. I'd absolutely expect people to already have their own opinions going into this. I'm just here to state mine.
@ChannelPup that's ok, I'm just confused cuz the title says "which game is better"
Each game took me 5 hours to beat.
Who tf is 100%ing sonic gens in 7 hours. I let my game run idle sometimes when I take a break but it took me 35 hours to S Rank + 100% collection gens, and Shadows side took 33 hours or so. Great combined experience overall.
og gens better, shadow is 10/10 material as well tho.
Both, both is good
I get the current hype but i dont believe it will stand the test of time as much as sonic gens
I like both! 💙💙💙💙💙💙🖤🖤❤🖤🖤❤🖤🖤
I think there equally good
i genuinely hate the way the controls feel when they playing as Shadow as compared to Sonic.
The only point I’d give sonic gen is the hub world. I just want to get to the missions. I don’t like ether though
There are actually tons of standout tracks that I recommend you listen to again, some of my favorites are:
1-3 Digital Cave*
1-5 Dropaholic*
2-1 Slice and Sway
2-4 Hype Street (probably my least favorite of these, very repetitive)
2-6 Transparent Highway
2-7 Floating in the Blue*
3-3 Memory Will Tell
3-7 All Reality*
4-2 Ephemeral
4-4 Wishes in the Wind
4-5 Arrow of Time
4-6 Fog Funk
4-8 No Pain, No Gain
4-9 Signs*
*If you don't want to listen to all of them, these are the most unique
Sorry if this is a second reply, my first one isn't appearing to me.
Sonic's render on the thumbnail is so mid but shadow looks amazing 5/10 thumbnail
sonic gen is so overrated, shadow gen is way better imo
Okay buddy relax. Sonic Gens ain’t overrated, it’s Peak, there’s nothing wrong with preferring Shadow Gens since it’s also a 10 just like Sonic Gens, but let’s not start spreading misinformation that Sonic Gens is “Overrated”.
@@ultrasphoenixExactly. I don't get what this new wave is about with all of a sudden hating on OG Gens. No one said any of this when it came out... Well at least not to this extent. Some people even say that it's adjectively bad. Which is like calling Super Mario Galaxy adjectively bad

@@ultrasphoenix but it is, it's just my opinion. I played both and I think that sonic generations is quite boring to call it the best 3d sonic game. I think there's way more better 3d sonic games and it seems like sonic generations are indeed overrated.

I personally like Shadow Genrations more, because Shadow is my favorite character, and I like the story of Shadow Genrations more.
Yeah there's no contest in my eyes.
well there's no contest in terms of story but in terms of gameplay and bosses it can go hand in hand

I vote shadow generations
Shadow Generations by far, Sonic Generations does not control good and I played it to death still prefer Unleashed
I also prefer Shadow generations by far, not only because its Shadow.
Shadow and its not close
