@4The2nd you obviously don't have the new Indian Challenger. No after purchase investment required. And the 114 doesn't measure up to the new Power Plus 108 in the Challenger. Challenger won't quite match the band-aid , save face crate motor but one also doesn't have to shell out $45,000 either.
@@jimtomstimpson1477 All I know is that going from the 114 to the 131, I still can't get laid. I mean, I might have the bore, but the ladies mostly want the stroke.
One item that everyone is forgetting to mention is the existing 117ci stage 4 option which gives you 125hp and 122 ft-lbs of torque. Yes I know what your thinking...he's wrong, the 131 is 121hp...I'm not wrong...the 117stage 4 makes MORE HP than the 131, but less twist than the 131. The 117 is a VERY powerful engine, has an 11:1 compression ratio and revs to 6600rpm. In your lighter softtail, you will be able to scare the hell out of most SuperSport bikes south of 750cc's. This engine is not to be confused with the 117 offered in Harleys current 117CVO touring lineup. The only similarity is the displacement and the fact they are both Milwaukee 8s. See your local HD dealer for details on the 117 stage 4 for your 2017 or newer softtail and touring bike. Cheers
Another good vid, mate... HD’s stab at big power still can’t draw my attention from that 2.5L Rocket engine... and oh, you actually get a proper motorbike with the engine... why in the world would HD make their new entry an upgrade for a current model?
Joe JackpotRider HD has offered upgrade kits and crate motors for years. This is just the latest iteration. This motor will likely be their standard offering in one or more models for 2021.
'With ya' on that Joe, and the 150/150 rear wheel dyno ain't too bad either. I think the triple sounds more like a weapon anyway, than the dated engine design of the single-pin crankshaft V-twin. And I'd rather not have to worry about the inherent weak links in an over-built V-twin (and everything else that will need upgrading along with... I understand that many are compelled to spend 20-30K for that patented 'grumble' one gets from an inefficient engine design, but I literally don't give a flying rats' ass 'bout that. For what these bikes cost, I'll take curtain number 3 with the extremely efficient and totally badass 2.5 liter, that doesn't need a damn thing invested into it to be a bad mofo. I'll bet it far outlives the over-built twins too! And have you seen what the Rocket is capable of on twisty mountain roads?: ruclips.net/video/oFMZ8cpT5Zk/видео.html Holy crap, right? 700 lb. sport/muscle bike! GT for me (in a year/year and a half) when the new prices wear off, painted to preference, panniers or bags of some kind, slightly larger wind screen, and done. Serious monster fun, and far fewer concerns. Actually was quite fond of Street Glides, but HD's overall greedy marketing has soured me on the brand. Too many damn requirements/expensive bling/upgrades/stage blahblah kits/keeping up the façade. ...has taken away the fun factor. I'll be trying the Rocket 3, and all it's brushed aluminum instead of chrome. And I happily ride along with anybody riding anything :-) . Except those sport bike hooligans- no way I can keep up :-(
I’ll settle for my 1679cc V4 Sports Cruiser... 200bhp and 166.79 Nm of torque.. 0-60 in 2.5 sec and was designed 11 years ago... 🤔 Still a way to go guys!!!!
Why shouldn't they? HD knows that their cultists will buy whatever they shovel out at any price. If I had that kind of clientele I'd scalp the s---out if those idiots too.
I think the argument really boils down to warranty preservation. For the same price I can drive to Revolution Performance in Wisconsin and have them work the engine. They offer a 128 upgrade and some custom work for a result of around 156hp and 165lb.
Sounds like a powerful V-twin, would be nice if they would fit in a twin cam frame. Guess I'll have to settle for upgrading the engine I have or step up to S&S....
So it will cost me a bunch, it won't fit in a 96ci, so I'll have to buy a bike with a 114ci then replace it I'll be happy with my 96ci......I have never let it loose so what good would a 131ci be to me
@@rugershooter5268 Seems like a great deal to me,but than again i don't flip burgers at McD's either. Talk about boring & I'm 52 yrs old so I'm fairly easy to please, but those old twin cams are dogs.
I love my Milwaukee 8 107ci, it pulls hard and long. This new crate 131 is not needed in my opinion unless you wanna have your bike on a lift all summer and a flat wallet. Harley-Davidson needs to concentrate on keeping prices down, cool the motors down, all full LED lighting and do away with the chain primary drive.
I wish HD would make a Sportster with a 100ci motor, 4 valve heads, keep the quad cams, XR1200 crank, fly-wheels, rods, pistons and oil system, 6 speeds, and double counterbalance it. Come on HD, you can do it for us Sporty Lovers... Peace, Stiletto :-)
For someone who can't do their own engine work it's not a bad way to go, for those of us who can it's kinda pricey. It's good and torquey, just what it takes to accelerate a bus (bagger) pretty quick. It's a little soft on horsepower, but that's only real important for top speed, torque is what accelerates the bike. For me a stroker/big bore kit in my twin-cam, piped & cammed right, my shotgun pipes and a dyno tune and I'll make better power and spend less money. I'll be saving money on the labor for the engine work too. My Softail standard is lighter than a bagger so it'd be plenty quick. But this big twin is a good way to go in a bagger for someone who doesn't do their own work - and has the money to spend.
Hahaha harley guys will cry but keep in mind that 131 is an "off road use crate" it doesn't meet emissions take the 108 power plus and tune it like the 131 and you should see 130+ rwhp
My opinion,.... Going bigger is going the wrong way. If motorcycle companies want to save the industry (in the US), they need to go smaller and lighter. Small cc classically styled bikes is the way to go.
H.D. has an opportunity here to make something great besides motorcycle engines. Take this and make a double row of 7 cylinders with a charger on it for the disappearing radial engines for aircraft. When you think about it, a H.D. V twin is but only 2 cylinders from a radial engine.
my buddy had a 2. 2 S & S in his Chopper... At that time I had a 3 cylinder one point 0 Suzuki Swift station wagon... His motorcycle engine was more than two times the size of my car motor the.........
For me having a Harley Davidson isn't about how fast it goes. It's about enjoying the ride . Also know that Harley Davidson has been around along time it's an original American company, I'm not saying Indian isn't. But they did go out of business. Buy Harley Davidson has always been here. That's why there are so many H-D's out there. Doesn't matter what you ride as long as you enjoy the ride. What's the big deal with hating on people who have a Harley or who don't have one. I just got a 2020 Road Glide Limited. But I also have a 1974 hard tail 750 Honda chopper with a really long Springer forks it's a neck breaker lol. Shit let's just ride.
So with the H-D crate 131" engine i get the same power & performance as the Indian 108. With the H-D i have to spend $25k on a new Street Glide Special plus $6000 + install for the 131" engine. What is install, another$1500? Bringing the total cost to $36,600. Alternatively, i could spend $25k on a 2020 Indian Challenger and spend nothing extra for the motor to get the exact same performance and power as Harley's 131" Not to mention the Challenger is a more modern engine and the bike itself looks far better. Hmmm, pretty easy decision for me, my Harley days were gone in 2014 and i see no reason to ever go back to Harley.
Harley Camper True. They have catered to the Harley loyalists for decades, sacrificing technology for customer satisfaction. Its worked for a long time, but now their rider population is getting older and smaller. The youngsters are fickle and have no such loyalty. Going to be interesting to see how things pan out over the next 5-10 years
Especially considering that the Vulcan 2000 was producing that power ( a little more I think to) back in 2004 and you can get a used one for 5k to 6k, cheaper than that engine alone
“...for those of you that work in metric.” Dear Motobob, this was a great clip, but just know that just about the entire world works in metric, except the USA and a bit of UK. We do love you guys heaps, but just know that most of have no idea about cubicfeetpoundinch and things like that ☀️😊
As far as I’m concerned, the 80” EVO motor was and is the best motor they ever made. I don’t need anything larger. I do have an ‘09 96” but that’s just an88” stroked. Still, the EVO is best, anything else is just a copy:)
Not really impressive. 131 CI that makes the same power as the Power Plus 108. So Harley can only make power by using bigger engines and lack the technology to make the power from a 107.
Harley...this is the dumbest thing I have ever seen. So I would have to pay at least about $22,000 for a base road glide with literally no modern features then pay another $7000 after tax just so I get get a bike on par with the Indian Challenger which is $22,000 base. $6,000.00 plus for the engine, and a couple of grand for the install.
@@northerniltree 😆 Lol!
@4The2nd honestly man , ride what you like , no doubt the new engine badass with that displacement .
You forgot the 117 cu in. CVO engine.
It is worth forgetting.
@Earl James Is perfect an issue?
That was a great video , well edited and excellent information. Appreciate
Appreciate the feedback - thanks!

I'm more than content with my dyna street bob 110.....106hp/122tq. Not sure if people are trying to get their baggers to 150mph or what?
True facts
Cheers
That’s a whole lotta umph........BTW your videos are top shelf 👍🏼 very entertaining.
Cheers Bradley appreciate it
Splendid video starting at 3:35 with the H-D 131 cu. in. crate engine assembling from piece parts.

Except those sport bike hooligans- no way I can keep up :-(
"Other THAN California"......well there's a shocker.......
I’ll settle for my 1679cc V4 Sports Cruiser... 200bhp and 166.79 Nm of torque..
0-60 in 2.5 sec and was designed 11 years ago... 🤔 Still a way to go guys!!!!
VMAX baby👍
no1headbanger yeah baby, yeah!!!
@@alexandersimpson3638 I have a gen 1 and someday will add a Gen 2 to my stable
The usual HD it always got to be extra....nothing is standard .
Why shouldn't they? HD knows that their cultists will buy whatever they shovel out at any price. If I had that kind of clientele I'd scalp the s---out if those idiots too.
depends on where you live. We offer the 131 at $3K above MSRP. Which is common practice here in the Mid Alantic
I think the argument really boils down to warranty preservation. For the same price I can drive to Revolution Performance in Wisconsin and have them work the engine. They offer a 128 upgrade and some custom work for a result of around 156hp and 165lb.
Indian engine comes standard, but Harley you gotta buy the upgraded engine?
Do the M8's have pressed cranks? Do other makers have pressed cranks?
Martin Cvitkovich yes they still use pressed cranks wont be long before there are a lot of heavy paper weights
It's on my wishlist...
When some driver overdoses on fentanyl, and crosses the yellow line, your horsepower won't matter.
6k + labor +pipe+dyno tune /tuner 10k later
Sounds like a powerful V-twin, would be nice if they would fit in a twin cam frame. Guess I'll have to settle for upgrading the engine I have or step up to S&S....
1:02 who uses American System..??
Great channel mate!
Thanks Pat!
So it will cost me a bunch, it won't fit in a 96ci, so I'll have to buy a bike with a 114ci then replace it
I'll be happy with my 96ci......I have never let it loose so what good would a 131ci be to me

Seems like a great deal to me,but than again i don't flip burgers at McD's either.
I had an 03 soft tail before my last new HD an 18 breakout that started out as a 114 that i built to a 117.
There's no way I would ever go back to an ancient slow bike again.
Or buy a stock 2018-2020 Goldwing with 125 hp / 125 tq and 96 lbs less weight
David Murchie with a top speed of 112 MPH. LOL
David Murchie yes a gold wing is hot 🥴
Or buy a minivan.
What is reliability of 120ST vs 131?
Sorry ........the VRod Revolution is still Harley king at 123 HP.
Harley does a 117 cu inch has standard in their CVO touring. 👍
Best thing about Hardley Abelson is they convert gas into useless amounts of noise pollution without the side effect of horsepower 🤣🤣🤣
Wow, how original...
74 cu in pan head, goes anywhere I want to and back home. All that motor for nothing, keep it
you sure about that ? All Harleys like a ride in the back of a ute to get back.
Often needs the same to get there too
What about the older Hurley motors ever gonna have a good one to slap in those frames
If a little is good and more is better, then is too much just enough ?
Almost!
RUBs will need this 😆
For someone who can't do their own engine work it's not a bad way to go, for those of us who can it's kinda pricey.
Harley should offer from factory just like stage 3 and 4. Durability is a problem with large air cooled motors and heat.
Hahaha harley guys will cry but keep in mind that 131 is an "off road use crate" it doesn't meet emissions take the 108 power plus and tune it like the 131 and you should see 130+ rwhp
I wonder if one of these would fit a breakout?
Patriot3210 I believe only available for A motors; softail are B motors. But I’m sure in due time!
@@billmart67 We can hope lol
Any 600 cc Japanese sport bike will smoke this 2147 cc Harley.
Wonder if the 131 would fit in my old EVO springer softail lol
if the throttle body is that large,do we need a special air filter
Why does everyone need such giant engines I’ve always had fun on Harleys with smaller engines from Panhead shovel head to 1340
Rides a 19 RKS 114 with a stage 2 plenty of power for this Rider to each his or hers own
Does it fit a 48?
Nope :(
Going to wait for the Revolution Max engine to be released .. Liquid cooled 1250cc 145hp . lighter , smaller , revs alot harder and makes more power
My opinion,.... Going bigger is going the wrong way. If motorcycle companies want to save the industry (in the US), they need to go smaller and lighter. Small cc classically styled bikes is the way to go.
Harley’s new 2147 cc engine would still get smoked by any 600 cc Japanese sport bike
I wonder if the Motor Company gets around the EPA exhaust regs by offering just a replacement motor rather than a complete motorcycle.
Why not the trikes? This would be awesome in a Freewheeler trike!
I just want a bigger gas tank
Good light tractor engine.
H.D. has an opportunity here to make something great besides motorcycle engines.
Harley doing it again!!! Nobody comes close, a lot of pretenders but only 1 Harley-Davidson
Will the sportster see milwaukee engine ?
So with the H-D crate 131" engine i get the same power & performance as the Indian 108.
With the H-D i have to spend $25k on a new Street Glide Special plus $6000 + install for the 131" engine. What is install, another$1500?
Bringing the total cost to $36,600.
Alternatively, i could spend $25k on a 2020 Indian Challenger and spend nothing extra for the motor to get the exact same performance and power as Harley's 131"
Not to mention the Challenger is a more modern engine and the bike itself looks far better.
Hmmm, pretty easy decision for me, my Harley days were gone in 2014 and i see no reason to ever go back to Harley.
Sure if you want. Git er done or get in line with all the gum flappers leaving comments
Or spend 20k on a rocket 3 which beats the hell out of both and looks beautiful

Its worked for a long time, but now their rider population is getting older and smaller. The youngsters are fickle and have no such loyalty. Going to be interesting to see how things pan out over the next 5-10 years
That's really not that impressive, especially for the money.
Especially considering that the Vulcan 2000 was producing that power ( a little more I think to) back in 2004 and you can get a used one for 5k to 6k, cheaper than that engine alone

I hope Harley makes a huge version of their liquid cooled engine that will be on the Bronx and Pan America
Hardley Movin Sons !!!!!!!
The Bronx Street fighter is the only good idea you had in the last 20 years!
