Fun story, I went to Disneyland alone for the first time and I got to experience something truly magical. I got to ride grizzly river rapids 6 times in a row with no one else in my boat. I was the only one screaming. It was also first thing in the morning and was the ride I genuinely wanted to ride first that day. I was on that ride for an hour. I was dripping for the rest of the day. It was great. Truly a magical moment for me. The cast members were so sweet too.
Something I had to learn through therapy and exposure, Be unapologetically you, No one is better than you, no one is less, no one is judging and if they do they are sad or projecting because they themselves cant find joy. You have fun on your solo trips! Its only awkward if you make it awkward!
I was adopted by a family of 4 in a 2.5 hr wait for Soarin, Easter week about 7 or 8 yrs ago. We all talked, they shared snacks and son showed me his DS. And in the end the kids wanted to ride with me. You’re never awkward alone - when you easily make friends!
I always just immediately make a comment about the ride to the person next to me to break the ice. Most people are there to have fun and will have a laugh along with you during the ride.

Just turn around, so we can all enjoy the ride and move on with our day."

I've been to Disney many, many times with family and once alone. The time alone made me fully realize why things like Xmas are hard for people who have no one. I literally cried in Disenyland being there alone.
I got on Tron and my ride partner was a younger bro. We started talking about our fav Disney rides. He had never been on ROTR so I said it’s a must. At the end of the ride I gave him a fist bump so not too awkward. 😉
I once rode Dinosaur alone in the back row and the only other person in the vehicle other than me was another single rider in the front row. I kept my eyes closed the entire time because it was so scary being thrown around in the dark with no one near me 😭
There's not a single ride that's legitimately awkward to ride alone. Family waterslides where you have to join a random family is probably the only exception because you're all half naked, wet and touching each other.
Don't feel awkward dancing in mnmrr how many people are you going to know when you go home. Let your hair down and have a good time. That's how Disney was meant to enjoy.
I rode a lot of rides alone when chaperoning for a student trip. I even chatted with some people and ran into others flying solo b/c they were meeting their party later after they rode a coaster. No one batted an eye. There's room for all of us❤❤
Going to a Disney park alone seems great. I’ve never had the chance, but it would probably be a cool experience. It’s impossible to argue about what ride to go on, and your family never stop you randomly for food, or to rest their feet. Changes of plan are impossible, unless a ride breaks down, but just getting on a different ride isn’t a big deal. You get to choose what to do, and when to do it. I actually love the interactive rides. Feels like everyone there is in a good mood, and strangers don’t feel too intimidating. (Keep in mind I’m also adjusted to being a college student around a bunch of strangers every day, so it isn’t so bad.) I don’t mind crowds until my family start randomly heading in different directions. I know my way around the park super well and everybody in my family seems to rely solely on me for way finding.
Tron 😅I also had test track brake down while I was sitting next to a couple that had never ridden it before it was super awkward when I had to explain that that’s not what is supposed to happen
I've never been on Kali River Rapids so maybe it's different but every time I've been on a ride like that I've ended up hanging out with someone else who was on the ride with me for the rest of the day.
In My case, last time there was this family whose children couldn't behave, got out of the queue and into cast members areas onl, etc. and i was all The queue thinking to myself like "damn control the damn gremlins or don't bring them", had them in The same vehicle :/
We are a fam of 5 so we usually get a single rider for Smugglers Run and before the ride starts we welcome them to the fam and try to make them comfortable, so if you join our group you won't feel awkward :)
I felt akward on the rapids type ride at six flags ans I was with my family! But we were all just sitting there.... looking at each other.... Us and the OTHER family on board. Like heyyyyy. SO AKWARD! Lol
a couple times when i was younger, i sat with single riders because there’s an odd number in my family and i would just strike up a convo before the ride started and most of them were very nice!
I love going on the rapids single rider! It’s so fun to be in someone else’s group randomly and see what they’re all like haha Like a safe group Omegle
I feel like I interact the most with people on kali river rapids because you’re all being thrown around and soaked and you just laugh with everyone else
I’ve been to Disney by myself and sometimes it can be awkward but as long as you’re enjoying yourself that’s all that matters. None of these other guests there should make you feel awkward.
Let's get a successor to Alien Encounter, especially now that Disney owns the IP that the attraction was originally supposed to be about!! Heck, build "NOSTROMO", the thrilling shooting dark ride that was originally supposed to be built instead of the show (but obviously with a reference to the show)! Just place it in a park that people would deem more appropriate this time! XD I hope they at least announce that something worthy us gonna finally replace the space that used to house Alien Encounter and Stitch.
Today I was at Idlewild and I was on the spider and there were other people waiting in line and I was the only one on the ride. That was the most awkward experience of my life THERE WERE OTHER PEOPLE IN LINE!!!!!!!
I would say that single rider lane for Smuggler’s Run is great when you’re at the park alone. Most likely you end up in the Engineer’s. seat, so sound confident when duties are explained by the cast members and say to your new crew something like, “yeah, I’m here to fix everything, I’ll be sure to bump out any dents the pilots get for us. Bonus, just say yeah, I can fix that…but I can’t wait to launch a harpoon at something? Be sure to be patient when paired with a wheelchair accessible teammate. You all will ride the elevator together after you’ve finished smugglers run. Mfirst rule, Have fun!
When I was a very little girl in the 50s and 60s, we knew better to even ask to go to Disneyland. It was impossibly expensive for families like ours. One only child went and came back with a set of ears. We handed them around reverently, trying them on once each with awe.
I had to laugh about the Smugglers run part. I went to Disneyland in March 2023 to help my sister with my nieces. Since they were both under 5, they couldn't do a lot of things and also headed back to the hotel fairly early. So, I was solo for close to half of the 3 days there. I rode Smugglers Run 3x, all single rider. The first two times I rode had drama because some people apparently can't comprehend how a SINGLE RIDER line actually works and argued with the cast members on why they can't pilot and why they can't wait for two seats together. Didn't go through that with the 3rd but it was 40yr me and 5 girls that I'd guess were around 11-12. Yeah that wasn't awkward at all. I just tried to keep my distance and not say anything haha.
As a veteran Disney single rider, I agree with these choices! However, definitely not riding without a smile on my face to make things less awkward lol
I’ve been on mission breakout and tower of terror alone and I really feel like even though im riding with complete strangers its a bit of a bonding experience because of how terrified everyone is
I go alone all the time, and they are usually some of my favorite trips. Anything with a single-rider line is perfect for singles, obviously. (On faster rides, like Rock'n'Rollercoaster or Test Track, I jokingly refer to it as "speed dating," because you never know who you'll get be paired with and you spend like 1-3 minutes with them. Sometimes it's awesome, and sometimes it's a little uncomfortable. You never know. Personally, I think the most awkward rides as a single rider are the family raft rides at the water parks. Teamboat Springs at Blizzard Beach, or Gangplank Falls and Misadventure Falls at Typhoon Lagoon, are always awkward. They will pair you with another party in the same raft, so first you have to stand off to the side like you're in a make-believe penalty box, feeling like a lost puppy waiting for a random family or group of strangers to agree to adopt you. And then you have to climb in with them and get your bare legs all mixed in together in the middle! It's speed dating with the added awkwardness of a group scissor!
I know that feeling when in a water park and wanting to ride those group raft slides, sometimes they let me ride in a 5 people raft alone, but thats rare
The last time I was at Disney me and my family decided to do smugglers run. We had to many people for one group so I needed up going with this sweet old disabled couple from my area! (Small world!) it was such a lovely experience trying to help them figure the ride out
i actually love kali river and smugglers run for that exact reason alone. you become friends with strangers for a short period of time. everyone on the river rapids is having fun and laughing at and with each other, and with smugglers run they aren’t afraid to yell at me and me them, since morale is high anyway because we’re at disney. I’ve had lovely experiences alone on smugglers run :)
Disneyland alone is 2022 for 3 days with the parks hopper pass. Very fun and yeah social anxiety gets to me but it’s not hard to just lock in on what you want to focus on and ignore the rest. Besides the crowds are so big that yes someone will see and notice you’re on your own but then they’ll see someone else on their own and stop thinking about you.
A few years ago on grizzly river run, me and my cousin (12 & 13 at the time) wanted to ride it but no one else wanted to so they waited for us while we went and since it was December and it’s a water ride, there wasn’t a line. A bunch of adults sat with us and started being kind of weird. Asking us questions we didn’t want to share. I had been on the ride before and I was trying to comfort my cousin who was kinda scared so I said “it’s kinda like [insert ride] at [local amusement park]” and they asked where that was and he said “why do you care so much about our lives when we dk you”. They asked if we were dating or siblings because we “would make a cute couple” and we told them that we’re cousins and they said “oh well you look like you could be dating”. During the ride they kept asking what our plans were and asked if they could tag along. When we got off they were still trying to do more rides with us and my grandparents and aunt noticed and said “I think it’s time to park hop” and the people from the ride said “should we buy a park hopper to join them” and my aunt told them that they were being creepy and to back off and we never saw them for the rest of the trip. Definitely don’t do Kali River Rapids or Grizzly River Run (they’re almost the same) if you don’t have a large group and you don’t want to talk to people
Kali River Rapids is my favorite ride to ride alone lol....I've been going with my family to the parks every year since I was a kid, no one enjoys the water rides except me, so they'll leave me there while they take a break/do expedition everest. I'll ride repeatedly and not only will the ride operators know me eventually: I always meet people on this ride. I am very introverted, and very shy, however the setting has made for wonderful interactions. I usually end up with people with kids or a family who is scared that I end up reassuring and always end up in the boat with me again for another ride or two. I've met lovely people on the ride. Sometimes its worth it to come out of your comfort zone on some of these rides : )
The last time I rode dinosaur back in April, someone miscounted and I got the front row all to myself while my folks waited outside. It was the best experience of my life XD
I've been going solo to my home parks for a while because my partner hates the sensory experience of theme parks, and i was basically raised in WDW 😂 I try to have small positive interactions with people around me. Im a short lady with pink hair and colorful tattoos, so i often use my approachability factor and experience communicating with young children for good. Pro tip: when kids ask if you are scared of a ride, say "not anymore!" even if you have never been scared of the ride. Kids connect with "not anymore" because it validates their feelings while providing reassurance that overcoming the fear is possible and rewarding. The only time ive felt bad being alone is the time i was denied access to a ferris wheel at sunset because i was alone. Also, never do Smuggler's run alone. You're pretty much guaranteed to get a role that has you looking at a wall of buttons instead of out the window.
I felt awkward doing smugglers run with my husband because we got thrown in with a group of 4 - a family. They ended up being nice and it was a lot of fun but still felt like we were awkwardly tagging a long.
No one’s gunna mention race track I remember going on it alone one time and this mother didn’t wanna push over to make room I know she wanted to be just her and her family and sitting next to a total stranger is weird and I would have totally waited for the next one but the ride operator wanted her to make room for me
Probably Radiator Spring Racers. I only say that because I went on it by myself and I was sat next to a mother her child. The kid looked at me, looked at their mom and said "what is she doing here?". I know it was an innocent question, but it made me feel so awkward the rest of the ride ;-;
That’s the one thing about smugglers run is that if you are doing it alone be prepared for people yelling at you because I know when I went on it with my family I was preparing them saying you are going get yelled at by people just because you are in a high stress andenvironment.
Recently went with family and went alone on Mickey and minnies actually. Didn't say hello but then the ride broke down and had to get evacuated. Those people sat next to me were SO kind... I wish I'd talked to them in the queue or something haha :) Also thats my favourite ride and so I went back with my free fast pass. Got sta next to a family of 3 who clearly didn't want me to also be there and we're expecting to ride alone. So 1 awkward moment, but after that, I just focused on making sure I enjoyed it and I didn't even think about them once... Just soaked up the Disney magic and had fun!!
I've been solo at Disney several times and never felt awkward on rides. The cast members made me feel awkward often, though. They would ask WHY I was traveling alone and make snarky comments about what I was wearing or where my kids were. I ignored them and had a blast 😂
I rode the rapids ride like 10 times in a row through the single riders lane. It was great and most of the big groups kind of just took me in and joked around with me lol
Both times I went on the Star Wars smuggling ride I did single rider which was great! But I get what you mean because I went in with a family of five and it was super awkward. I also noticed that if you only ever do single rider you will always be the engineer because you will always be the last person.
I still get teased from when I went with an odd number of people to disney and ended up alone on Dumbo 😅 it was awkward and apparently I looked like a bored dad
Smugglers run was funny bc me, my brother, my mom and our 91 now 92 year old grandma did it together, me and my brother were pilots and my mom did none of the engineering because she was too busy telling my grandma to press buttons 😂
As someone who goes alone literally every single time I go to the parks, I think being forced to join a group makes you less alone. I think the real worst ones are like Pirates of the Caribbean, where you're arbitrarily given an entire row to yourself
1: me and my twin sister got put with another group for smugglers run and it was awful! At the beginning they asked if anyone was familiar with video games and we were the only ones. I'm sure the other people in our group had fun just watching what was happening but we had no support while we steered the whole ship. 2: my dad and brother went on dinosaur in single rider, got put on the same truck anyways so during the photo my dad decided he would grab my brother around the waist and "scream" in absolute terror. Still one of my favorite pictures ever and we heard the other family laughing when they saw.
In Disneyland California space mountain is a two seater ..so your forced to make a new buddy....sometimes it's cool or sometimes the purson next to you makes it awkward
Smugglers Run is awkward. For some reason the two times I went I got the dirtiest looks from other guests I was paired with, until we officially started. I didn't request specific positions, just sat where they didn't sit, so it wasn't because I wanted a position. All I can think of is they were just mad they had to share that space with me? Cause... Yeah, it was awkward.
I haven’t done this alone yet, but I’m gonna say Tower of Terror! It’s gonna be really awkward for whoever is sitting next to me when I grab them like we are siblings and yell in fear for the 1st few drops. 🥺
I never feel awkward going on rides alone but the strangers around me do and try to initiate awkward conversation 😅 It’s okay! I’m not lonely, I swear 🙏
No rides make me feel awkward alone. I have had people give me dirty looks when a CM had me ride with them on MMRR, but that’s on them, not me, just following orders. And while Dinosaur is a super-cool ride, definitely not scary.
I hate when CM stick me in a dark ride car with a group because they expect to have their own car- not have a CM stick me in there with them. At the other end are Small World and Pirates- which are set up like MMRR in terms of being long benches in multiple rows, but the CMs give you your own row if you are alone.
We're a family of 3, so when the CM puts a single rider with us, I clap and say, "YAY! We get a new friend!" then introduce myself. Most are happy, I think some are annoyed (I'm neurodivergent, so it's hard to tell)
Frozen Ever After. Waiting in the queue and on the ride can be awkward as I'm a 45-year-old male riding alone; you have a lot of parents giving you strange looks. It doesn't make it better to say I'm a kid at heart.
When I could afford Disney. Going alone never bothered me. I'm able to start chats with anybody. Only language (which has been few) and the other people making it awkward, have been an issue. I actually enjoyed it. It allowed making more friends. A few I still see on social media. Often the queue/line was the best part. Other than sweating like meat in a BBQ.
We have an odd # in our fam. Tried to be friendly with a lady sitting next to me on Slinky. You can see in our ride photo how appalled she was that they sat someone next to her. 😂
I LOVE Splash Mountain(Disneylands) and would use the single rider line to go on it as much as I could while we still had it…. rip. But it’s so awkward being on the back of a log with a whole family, and then the photo at the end looks like I’ve been adopted 😂😂😂 I almost feel guilty for ruining a family’s potential photo, but at least I got to go on it again lmao
Disneyland Splash Mountain, nothing feels more awkward than partly straddling or having someone partly straddle you. And the pictures with other people’s family and couples don’t help.
The most embarissing thing is trying to sit and get off magic kingdoms space mountian. lik the seast are so low i look like a weirdo trying to squat into them seats and then when getting out i cant squat up so most times i roll onto the floor xD
At the end of Haunted Mansion, knowing the ghost following you home is your only friend with you that day. 😕

Ah yes. Befriending the hitchhiking ghosts. A classic
Why is that so sad 😭

I rode a lot of rides alone when chaperoning for a student trip. I even chatted with some people and ran into others flying solo b/c they were meeting their party later after they rode a coaster. No one batted an eye. There's room for all of us❤❤
I never feel arkward when I'm riding an attraction by myself. I love to enjoy the ride with other guests. Even if I don't know them 😅
Going to a Disney park alone seems great.
Fry Bucket is the first person you would call if your heading to WDW alone. She has all the info and knows how to have fun at the parks.
Also the only time I've ridden Smuggler's Run the same thing almost happened but I wasn't by myself.
I just try to remind myself that im never going to see these people again, but I'll remember the fun forever ❤
I love going on the rapids single rider! It’s so fun to be in someone else’s group randomly and see what they’re all like haha
Like a safe group Omegle
I feel like I interact the most with people on kali river rapids because you’re all being thrown around and soaked and you just laugh with everyone else
I’ve been to Disney by myself and sometimes it can be awkward but as long as you’re enjoying yourself that’s all that matters. None of these other guests there should make you feel awkward.
I have that, “I can talk to anyone” trait going for me, so this ain’t a problem.
The people lover is also really lonely if you don’t have anyone else because there’s so much quiet time
When I was a very little girl in the 50s and 60s, we knew better to even ask to go to Disneyland.
I’ve never gone without my family and I didn’t consider how if you’re alone you’d be pressed up against strangers. Omg lol
As a veteran Disney single rider, I agree with these choices! However, definitely not riding without a smile on my face to make things less awkward lol
Me personally I find mission space similar to smugglers run awkward because there are also rolls and also it’s a really tight space and all.
(Small world!) it was such a lovely experience trying to help them figure the ride out
I’m not a big fan of riding Cosmic Rewind with a stranger. My favorite ride but sometimes it can be a bit awkward depending on who you end up next to.
i actually love kali river and smugglers run for that exact reason alone. you become friends with strangers for a short period of time. everyone on the river rapids is having fun and laughing at and with each other, and with smugglers run they aren’t afraid to yell at me and me them, since morale is high anyway because we’re at disney.
I've been going solo to my home parks for a while because my partner hates the sensory experience of theme parks, and i was basically raised in WDW 😂
I try to have small positive interactions with people around me.
"Navi river journey is a great ride" is CRAZY
I felt awkward doing smugglers run with my husband because we got thrown in with a group of 4 - a family. They ended up being nice and it was a lot of fun but still felt like we were awkwardly tagging a long.
No one’s gunna mention race track I remember going on it alone one time and this mother didn’t wanna push over to make room I know she wanted to be just her and her family and sitting next to a total stranger is weird and I would have totally waited for the next one but the ride operator wanted her to make room for me
Amusement Parks usually have the lover’s ride. Disney should make one inspired from The Lion King 2’s upendi
I haven’t been on any Disney rides alone, but have been on a couple of other thrill rollercoasters alone and I am a screamer on rides 😅🙈
Probably Radiator Spring Racers. I only say that because I went on it by myself and I was sat next to a mother her child. The kid looked at me, looked at their mom and said "what is she doing here?". I know it was an innocent question, but it made me feel so awkward the rest of the ride ;-;
The family I rode with on Smuggler's Run were so lovely. I look way younger than I am, so the parents wanted to take care of me.
I wish I'd talked to them in the queue or something haha :)
Also thats my favourite ride and so I went back with my free fast pass.
Being alone and loneliness are not the same 😅 I’ve been on the Mickey railroad ride alone and love it.
Even then, the silver lining is that you have the entire bench to yourself
I liked going alone. I could sort of cut in line near the end.
This is why I go to Universal. There, none are awkward to be by yourself. There are loads of solo people.
Mission to Mars was a bit awkward as a single rider but that ride trauma bonded us strangers as we landed that space ship 😂
Wow I totally would have a different list. Teacups, buzz lightyear, midway mania,
I haven’t done this alone yet, but I’m gonna say Tower of Terror! It’s gonna be really awkward for whoever is sitting next to me when I grab them like we are siblings and yell in fear for the 1st few drops. 🥺
I've ridden M&Ms Runaway Railway alone (after my family left the park but I'm not a quitter) and I didn't feel awkward.
omg I actually never imagined going alone to disney.. I still processing
Cars ride at DCA is awkward solo rider because you just get put in a group that doesn't fill up the seats. Usually a family.
I never feel awkward going on rides alone but the strangers around me do and try to initiate awkward conversation 😅
It’s okay! I’m not lonely, I swear 🙏
If Fry Bucket needs a co-rider when I am down there, I will jump to volunteer!
:)
@@rattiegirl5 I guess it depends on lines. MMRR typically has at least an hour wait, Pirates and Small World typically under 30 minutes.
I’ve ridden dinosaur before when I was the only guest on the ride. Now that was awkward!
When I could afford Disney. Going alone never bothered me. I'm able to start chats with anybody. Only language (which has been few) and the other people making it awkward, have been an issue.
I actually enjoyed it. It allowed making more friends. A few I still see on social media. Often the queue/line was the best part. Other than sweating like meat in a BBQ.
i went on test track alone and i was with a whole other family that all knew eachother😭 awkward.
