Nice comprehensive review!! I own a 2015 Golf Tsi so I wanted to add a quick comment on the storage cubbies around the driver's seat. There is a pull out draw under the driver's seat and a flip down storage compartment to the left of the steering wheel on the dash. Combine that with the center arm rest storage, the large door pocket and the center console storage and I'd say there is no excuse to have any visible clutter in this car!! VW has nailed that part!!
Awesome review Matt! loving these press cars it allows you to make such a well rounded video!
***** Thank you!
APR stage 1 tune, thicker rear sway bar and this car livens up really nice
R Haas Did you do this? If so what was mileage hit?
I think your hands movement ups and down at the same time is iconic....:)
Didn't realize the interior of the wagon was that nice... Solid review man!
Good to have you back Matt. Glad you enjoyed your 2 weeks away! Feels great to finally have weekly reviews and car news love the channel and keep up the good work !
This guy's great reviews. I'm pretty sure that he's "in character" during the reviews to both stand out among the others and to compliment his "nerdy" enthusiasm. GREAT JOB!!!
I know this was a 2015 model but your review got me interested in test driving the 2018 SportWagen with 4Motion and I loved it so much it’s parked outside now! I was cross-shopping cross overs and almost went over to the dark side until I drove this. Always enjoy your reviews and would love to see your opinion on the AWD version if you get a chance. Keep up the great content!
Doesn't Volkswagen, pretty much, own everything?
Dakota Randolph Haha yeah they own a lot of companies.
Check the Seat leon cupra. It s based on thd golf r but fwd. I think it looks better than the golf.
Dakota Randolph vw, audi, seat, skoda, bentley, bugatti, lamborghini, porsche .... and some non car related stuff.
+A Li don't forget Ducati
Tristan Rios They own Ducati as well???
I just traded out of my 2015 silver regular Golf TSI S.
I loved everything they gave you for a base model including very nice finish inside and out.
Handling was also great but the reliability was horrible!
It’s mind boggling how many times I needed to go to the dealer for repairs. Luckily I had a 75,000 mile warranty. I love how this guy talks about how mature a vehicle it is and how great it is.
I’m 52 years old and I seriously need a reliable vehicle. This is far from a great reliable vehicle! I would never go near another Volkswagen.
I went back to Honda and I seriously couldn’t be happier.
I got one a couple of months ago and I'm pretty happy with it. :o) I've just read there is a recall on the diesel model (TDI) due to emissions control issues. I'm even happier to have gotten the TSI!
t-shirt + shorts + flip flops = perfect day
I have the same car and the way the climate knobs jiggle really bothers me too! Just feels very un-German and in sharp contrast to how solid and precise the rest of the interior.
And you're totally right about accelerating off the line. You have to find the sweet spot otherwise it's either jerky or slow (like the turbo spools up slower unless you give it more push).
"Let's take it on this backroad here and see how it does" is the equivalent of the bass dropping in music lol
I own the exact same car i got it two weeks ago and so far i love it 🥰🥰 im inlove with my car and its easy to navigate all the buttons and storages. The back up camera is awesome and the sounds system is on point too!! 💕💕
Nice review! Hopefully we get the Golf R Sportwagen soon. That's gonna be sweet!
+touge runz
Golf R Variant in EU
had a 2009 Jetta 5cyl manual (5spd) & 2012 GTi manual (6spd) loved every second of it, drove both them hard, cruised, long trips, traffic, no issues not a single issue or recall on both cars both were 3 year lease program cars, in the entire 6 years of ownership, not even oil changes i had to pay, despite GTi is obviously the better car, I can't speak enough how FANTASTIC the Jetta 2.5L 5 cylinder engine was with the manual transmission, and from a enthusiast point of view; dogs are men's best friend a GTi as for a car is men's best friend, I've done corners on 3 wheels only on ground, canyons, back roads you name it, always there for you, not once have ever made me nervous nor betrayed my confidence the stock Dunlops were great tires the suspension was spot on the steering AMAZING feel & feedback. The other fantastic point i also enjoyed on my VW's were the level of equipment i had at the base models, the Jetta was the most basic model of the time, i had keyless entry, CD, security system, heated seats, power windows & mirrors. The GTi was the base model GTi apart from button in the steering wheel which i personally don't like, GPS and sunroof, was the same exact car as the $7k more top of the line. I've heard thru out my years folks speaking bad of VW, as they are unreliable, built in mexico bla bla bla, NOT once in every car ive drove in the same price bracket came even close to match value, quality of the ride and overall quality feel those 2 vehicles gave to me. Cheers
The German built VW are better built. Except for the ID4 it seems those are a reliability nightmare
Thanks for the review. Like the Wagon. Seems like a decent daily driver with extra space. Price is spot on. Can't wait to see the sportier models mentioned in this weeks news review.
A big selling point of all the SUV's/Crossovers is the taller, more commanding view of the road. That is the one most frequent reason for choosing an SUV, that I encounter. We are taking delivery of a 2019 Sportwagen S soon. Fun little wagen (wagon?)
It downshifts while coasting down a hill to increase engine braking so you don't have to use as much brakes. My parent's 2006 Civic does it too.
All VW with DSG have DSG stamped in the shift lever, if not it is a regular automatic
I've thought about buying the TDi version of the Golf Sportwagen. Unfortunately, I've heard that VWs have reliability issues.
When you have the cruise on some cars (including mine) will downshift to slow you down to get you back down to your set speed.
When you turn the radio screen off does the radio still play? My gf has a 2015 jetta and hates the light at night. We had no idea the car could do this.
About the downshifting going down hills and such..i don't know if this is the case for this vehicle or not. But, I had a 2012 civic.. if you were going down a hill and hit the breaks a little, it would downshift to hold you back a little.
2015 Subaru Forester XT Maybe? Touring Trim? Could ya?
Good review as always. Would love to see a new Golf R review.I know the dealerships around me are starting to get the manual transmissions finally.
Awesome review...thanks for sharing....All your reviews are the best....
It looks a bit dull on the outside, that low trim level doesnt even come with fog lights...
My rental car here in germany is better equipped. You are also getting the North America version here with slightly less quality but a real manual handbrake. I hate the electric e-brake in the euro model.
The 1.8 is a little bit thirsty, you could almost drive a GTI with that much fuel. The DSG- trans is really good, no auto slushbox that thinks ten years before it changes gears and takes for ever doing so.
But its nice that you show what the entry level wagon looks like, this really is a Volkswagen.
You don't switch off the ac when you switch off the car?
The transmission is a regular 6 speed Tiptronic, not DSG.
You're the man +Subaruwrxfan
WEDNESDAY REVIEWS ARE BACK BABY!!!
Any interest in a Ford Focus ST? You did the GTI. I feel like you should do the other hot hatches as well :)
I quite like the golfwagen, i believe if i remember right they are upgrading the radio (bigger screen and car play) system like is in the euro golf, and they were rumors of the golf r wagen to bad they are not making it.
subaruwrxfan So it feels like naturally aspirated engine and acceleration is a bit laggy from a stop? Which is it?
tim d It's laggy from a stop because of the transmission.
Oh gotcha. Thanks for the clarification.. I've been looking into buying one similar
HEY Matt for my second car (ive been driving for about 3-4 years) what car would you reccomend: a 2008 mustang gt or a 2006 nissan 350z i cant really decide
LegitamentChaos I'd go Mustang man! little more power, fun to kick the back end out, tons of super cheap mod potential (americanmuscle .com check it out) and it can seat 4 people where the Z can only fit 2, and has more room overall. Both are awesome cars but the stang gives you a little more options :)
Street Speed 717 yeah I'm leaning mustang, their a little more expensive but soooo much more mods I can do to it, and ohh yeag more power!!
I like the Sportwagen but the rear seat legroom is a bit lacking.
As someone who would rather have a wagon versus a cross over or SUV there are not that many options on the market today. This is one of the better wagons I have seen.
Nice review again Matt!
I was waiting for this review thank you
Brother it would be awesome if you could review one of the 2015 Chrysler 300 S! Just something I'd like to see reviewed by you thanks!
Hey subaruwrxfan, what car should I get as my first car, it has to be FWD/or AWD, 4 cylinders, and under 20k, it can be new or used! Please respond!
I'd go lightly used GTI, Civic Si, Fiesta ST or Focus ST. WRX if you want awd but they hold their value so they'll be more expensive.
The fiesta ST is pretty nice! But what do you think about the Lancer GTS?
+FrogFootech expensive you wouldn't find too many with low miles that are cheap
FrogFootech Not a big fan, I reviewed the Ralliart and wasn't very impressed with it.
Review a corolla sport. The engine is loud in sport and manual mode. I think people would like it
Finally another car review I love them keep up the work do you think it's possible to review any of the Dodge challengers
Ronaldo Cedillos Thanks! I reviewed a V6 one a few years ago but I've been asking Dodge for one of the new ones. Just have to wait for it to become available!
Yea I'm into great meaty v8 and also you have never reviewed a mustang gt 500 and you love mustang.
Ronaldo Cedillos Haven't done a GT500 yet but I'd love to!
Ronaldo Cedillos not to hi-jack Matt's comments lol but I reviewed a 2015 Challenger 392 scat pack recently if you're interested :)
they don't sell them in America but it would awesome to see you do a review on the vw Passat r36 wagon one day
There's just something about the side profile that I dislike. It's clean and simple but boring. The back end and front look great but the side is just not interesting. Their Jettas and Golfs look fine and Audi's have the same simple approach to them but this one really just doesn't appeal to me. Maybe I'm weird.
matt, do you have a plan to review ferrari 488 gtb?
impressed with the interior. glad VW didn't cheap out on the materials for the US version. a little bland but a solid wagon
Nice review! Would really appreciate if you could review an e92 or f30 335i.
if you had to choose between 2006 Audi A3 Sportback (you reviewed) versus this 2015 VW Sportback, which one will you pick. I say this because I actually purchased a 2006 Audi A3 with low miles ( your review of the car helped alot). Now the family is growing and I'm looking into the Sportwagen. But ... the Audi A3 mated with the engine configuration but tuned to produced more horsepower (200) and more torque (207 lb-ft). I'm curious on your take on it from a driver perspective. Of course the SportWagon outcast the Audi on space and safety features.
Very informative review. On the other hand, many of your comments are redundant. Try practicing a little more and organize your thoughts clearly and spit out your points rather than filling the gaps with ramble. Good work.
the thing is, im debating between this (Topline) and a Volvo V60 (mid-tier) and im just unsure about the reliability and repair issues i heard from other sources about Volkswagen...
deusxmedia maybe check out some vids by The Humble Mechanic for any VW reliability/repair vids, might answer some questions. I've been a VW owner for 20 years and they can have issues, or not, just like anything else. People often say they have a lot of electronic issues but its something I've rarely encountered. Check engine light is your friend :P Also, I don't think a Volvo would be any cheaper than a VW when it comes to repairs. Seems like every manufacturer is expensive these days :/
thing is, if i do get the SportWagen, i will literally mod the heck out of it.. custom rims, catbacks, etc... ahah, after all, it does save me lots of cash instead of buying the Volvo
deusxmedia Hard to argue with the looks of the V60 though...
I've had a 2010 VW GTI I bought new for the past 5 years. Car has never left me stranded and only issue ever had was a failed intake manifold that was repaired under warranty. Car has 52K miles on it as of now and still runs like a top.
deusxmedia if you plan to do lot of mods trust me, get a GTI instead. you'll thank yourself later
Oh and if you follow the maintenance schedule you'll be fine.
are those the new air Jordan flip flops
how about 4motion sportwagen manual ?
My experience with a tsi engine so far:
After 5000km this engine- when running iddle -started shaking.
Engine misfires - according to VAG that is a normal behaviour for the TSI engines.
( Why the engine didn't have that problem the first 5000 km, remains a mystery).
So expect this to happen at any time.
My collegues car ( french make, also direct-injection petrol engine) which cost half the price,
runs smoother. She makes fun of me, but in Germany they call this "Vorsprung durch Technik".
The GTI also has the rear AC vents.
can u please do the volvo wagons please, they are so cool, even the new xc90 is cool as well.
watching this in 2024. thanks sir!
Probably downshifts when you're going down a hill for engine braking so you don't speed as quickly... wouldn't consider that performance oriented rather just good transmission programming
This or a Mazda 3??
How come you never review a golf r? I wanna see your face reaction when you accelerate on one
This car in TDI is like THE family car
I’ve seen so many owners with golf and Jetta TDI wagon at my store with the owners bringing them in for regular maintenance and the owners say they run like a clock just maintain them
Can you review the Cobalt SS
Nice review keep it up
Can you do the ford Shelby GT 350r
If you're able to get your hands on a VW Tiguan I'd love to see you review it! :)
Do what thedudeinblue does , your reactions would be epic. Review older cars, these new ones are kind of junk.
Can you review the new Jetta GLIs.
I want to! I've requested it from VW so hopefully I can get it.
can you do a 2010 GTI please if you can
damn, my vw cc does the same thing, it is a duo clutch, and when you give it too much gas, it is very jumpy and it almost felt like there is something wrong with the car. lol
Do a 2015 golf R review please
I drove my friends fathers 2014 Passat TSI and the first thing I noticed when driving it was that the transmission felt like a DSG... It's super weird and I checked his window sticker and it's not DSG... It's a Japanese transmission
Tristan Rios Where are you from? All passats have DSG in europe if it is an automatic. VW ordered DSG transmissions from japan (Aisin-Warner) in 2013 and they all went on models on sale at USA and CHINA.
+arosuzi I am from the U.S.
Tristan Rios Ok. So it most likely was Aisin made DSG :) How it was? Good or bad?
+arosuzi it wasn't bad, but I really don't think it would be a DSG. When we would play around and try to do 0-60s we would brake torque it and it would act like a torque converted gearbox.
+arosuzi in the US, TSI engine equipped passats come with a 6-speed auto, the TDI cars all come with DSG. Regular auto is made in Japan
Yeah my cars transmission feels the same. I have. 07 Rabbit 2.5
It's funny because the new 1.8 tsi golf stage 1 gains over stock is almost as powerful as a mk5 and mk6 gti stage 1.
COOL Review: 2015 Volkswagen Golf Sportwagen TSI
My man wearing shorts from when he was in middle school
ateazy12 I had to rewind to beginning to check those out. Now I can’t quit laughing.
ateazy12 nah shorts down past your knees just aren’t in style anymore.
Haha you are so used to your brz/mustang push button start that twisting a key feels unnatural.
@subaruwrxfan do a review on the rx8 !
kuddos from Tijuana mate... it is a DSG? here in Mexico is anounced as a DSG but a buddy bough a Golf Sport (almost a GTI) but less equiped and it says Automatic, not DSG in the brouchure, and he bring it to service and it is a DSG, there is even a Polo Sport that has the DSG with a 2.0 engine... that little car is a beast, but I mean... here they have al the models mixed up lol... maybe this one is in your review is a DSG... thanks for the cool reviews
Daniel Rodriguez From Mexicali here, the Golf for the Mexican marquet is a DSG (or a true manual if you prefer), it has a 1.4 TSI, and the DSG is the 7 speed, I don't think the DSG7 is available in any car in the US, I can tell you that the 1.4 is incredible, feel like much more than 140hp, one thing is you really feel the turbo lag!
+Andres Salazar
Andres....now that the GTI is built in Puebla and has the 2.0 which is sold here in the US, do you guys also get the same GTI with 2.0? Or is there a different engine for the GTI for the Mexico market? Thanks.
+greenhavennn The engine is the same, but the ECU is a little different for use with Mexican fuel, and you actually get the 220hp version as standard, I still think the 1.4 TSI (now with 150hp) is the more interesting engine, the only drawback is the noticeable turbo lag. The DSG is a mixed bag, it is really quick to upshift, but also makes the lag even more noticable, if you mash the throtle you will leave the stop light burning rubeer for like 30 o 40 feet, but on the passing lane I think it is faster than the 1.8 you guys have in the US (same torque, less weight and the DSG)... I almost bought one but ended up with the Mazda3 S GT, at sea level it really is great!
+Andres Salazar
Thanks for the info. Ha! Funny you mention the Mazda and also the VW 1.8. My g/f is shopping for a new car right now. I did some research for her and based on her needs and budget, suggested that she take a look at the Mazda 3 and Mazda CX3. They both run the 2.0 with 146 (3) and 155 hp (CX3). Both decent.
We then went to VW and she test drove GTI with 6spdMT, a base Golf with the 1.8 and 6spdAT and finally a SportWagen with the same 1.8 and 6spdAT. I was really impressed with the 1.8t, as it puts out 180hp and 199 lb-ft torque at a low 1600rpm. I think she's leaning toward the SportWagen.
I was surprised at how well the non-DSG 6spdAT in the Golf shifted, using the paddles. DSG like shifting. I did watch a review of the DSG in both the GTI and R on a mountain road. The guy said the same thing you did about the DSG during a hard launch.
Btw, you made a great choice with that 3 S GT. I take it yours came with the 2.5 and MT?
+greenhavennn I wanted the S GT manual, but since Mexico's market is not that big (roughly 1.4 million car yearly) the GT only comes as auto, but I did test the 6 speed MT 2.0 and it has a great shifting manual but I wanted the leather and Bose which only comes in the GT. If I could I would've bought the Golf highline as well haha, but can't pay for 2 cars plus maintenance. I gotta tell you after rouhly 7K the engine feels livelier than when new and fuel economy is decent, 25 mpg city and I hit about 37 highway (of course driving in Mexico is very different, our highways very rarely flat, uphill and downhills everywhere!), let me know if you go for the Mazda or the VW... good luck
Old time subscriber and fan here so no hate...but maan...those flip flooops...
Haha yeah I never wear flip flops to review usually but just totally forgot this time.
Haha yeah I never wear flip flops to review usually but just totally forgot this time.
WHAT ARE THOOOOOOSE
I love my GF's trim pieces....
Who reviews cars in their flip flops? Is it even legal to drive in those?
Jake Click Just got his nails painted as evidenced at 4:28. Don’t want to mess up a new pedi.
Dope ass into!
Review a Subaru WRX STI Hatchback.
LeaskGaming I already did.
+subaruwrxfan Ah right, what about an Insignia VXR? 😀
LeaskGaming That's the Buick Regal GS here, which I reviewed earlier this year.
+subaruwrxfan Ok, thank you 😀
Review Golf R Plz
do a dodge challenger hellcat review plz
waiting for tjhunt to comment...any second now
Matt, do you currently record with an external mic? Also... please....please, for the love of everybody, write a small script out and follow it. For how well you present and record, the uh's, you know's, I means, takes away from that. Also, your usage of "Nice" and "Good". There's a million and a half ways to get across what you're saying, try to steer away from just calling everything nice.... You feel me?
Not a fan of the wagon body style
My GF's trunk space is large too!!
10:06 backroad drop button.
Lol wore that same shirt today
T to the S to the I...
too much coffee that morning?
cool you drive in flip flops!
Omg under 301 club lol
slow down ..... when talking ... good video though
suppp 😎
Those rims, killer. So plain and 'daily commuter'. The whole car could look so much nicer with better rims, why do manufacturers offer such ugly rims/hubcaps?
It’s literally a base model S
looks like a messed up frog...
