    Supermarket Sweep was a cool yet corny game show, however what made it the most noteworthy to me is i saw this show after seeing an episode of Married With Children that parodied the show, at least as far as the grocery grab part.

    I remember watching this show all the time with my sister. It came on right after Shop 'til you Drop, which we also loved.

    There was a Canadian version of supermarket sweep that wasn't bad. Rules were very similar, but there were two mini sweeps during the game, but in the final sweep if the team got the three clues correct they got to choose one of sixteen paper rolls and revile their prize

    If you thought the bonus sweep was hard, check out the long novel-style clues from the Canadian version.

    Really loving your reviews, keep making them!
    I wanted to point out some things you said in the review. First, it is possible, though I've onely found one, to find copies of the ABC version on RUclips. You can see one of the episodes here: watch?v=CcXWOPam704
    Later on in the original run, there were 3 teams instead of 2, just like the Lifetime/PAX version, though everything else you mentioned is correct!
    13:21, you mentioned a penalty for leaving items on the floor. It's been mentioned in at least one episode of the PAX version that each item on the floor incurred a $25 penalty. It's stated around 19:20 of this episode: watch?v=BUSW6PQkQEE
    Anyway, awesome review, really loved it, and hope you do more! =D

    Maybe there should be a supermarket sweep: Black Friday edition

    The key to winning the sweep was always diapers. Everyone always loaded up on those.

    Supermarket Sweep was my favorite game show as a kid. I always wanted to be on it. Maybe if it's ever revived again I'd audition to go on with one of my siblings.

    You should know that the UK had their own version of the show called "Dale's Supermarket Sweep"

    You've done Supermarket Sweet, but now you need to hit the other two of the Lifetime Trio! You should do Shop 'Til You Drop and Debt as well!

      I do want to do at least a 5 minute review of "Shop 'Til You Drop". But...I've never heard of "Debt" before...

      Grid17Productions
      Debt is one of the best game shows of the late 90s. It had a really awesome set, a really funky music score, and of course, "The Crown Prince of Credit Himself" Wink Martindale, of Tic Tac Dough fame.
      While the show was good, Merv Griffin didn't think so, as he sued The Walt Disney Company because Debt had a similar style to that of Jeopardy! during Season 1, and so they had to change the format in Season 2.
      But it is an awesome show, and you should check it out! =D

    Please do shop till you drop and debt because they are still my favorite game shows of all time.

    There also was an additional rule of not hitting another contestant or a cameraperson with your cart. The penalty was $25 docked from your score.
    This was not enforced if you hit the produce stand or the Cola displays. (Yes, both has happened)

    One of my pet peeves with this show was that, to my knowledge, NO ONE bought any produce. I was like - "Its there on display, why not grab any of that?"

    • @Grid17Productions
      @Grid17Productions  10 лет назад

      I remember thinking the same thing about the display of potato chips up front. However, since the objective was to rack up the highest total in the shortest amount of time, I can understand them bypassing the produce. Not that pricy (compared to the meats, cheeses, meds, etc...), and you lose time bagging it up. For that matter...were produce bags even available?

    This was always one of my favorite shows (Used to watch on Lifetime).
    In my opinion, the best mini-game played before the Sweep itself was the "Snack Attack" game. David would read off trivia questions about movies. Whichever team got the final one correct got to "taste test" an item in the market. If they got it right the first time, it was worth a $50 bonus to their eventual sweep total. If they guessed right the second time (from multiple choice) it was worth $25.

    +Grid17Productions Do you think that Supermarket Sweep deserves a relaunch? If so, what network should relaunch the show?

    • @Grid17Productions
      @Grid17Productions  8 лет назад +1

      I would love to see Supermarket Sweep back on the air! My only condition would be that it maintain it's original Lifetime/PAX form (and original host too if possible). As for which network...whichever one would support it I suppose. Given the ABC relaunch of several game shows coming soon, maybe it'd be a good daytime show for them.

    • @MadMikeSportsYT

      Hmmm.....Supermarket Sweep on ABC Daytime. Get rid of 'The Chew' and put Sweep and Shop 'Til You Drop in the 1 PM hour. They can also just ditch General Hospital and put the tandem of Sweep and Shop 'Til You Drop in the 3 PM hour.

    The bonus round wasn't that hard, if it was, then maybe it wouldn't have had given away over $2 million.
