Maaan, I’m 53 next week & and probably waited 30-40yrs for Kim to get a signature guitar - Love Kim’s style & the riffs he & Chris Cornell came up with. Soundgarden what a band!! Great video man, thanks for sharing, hope you’re well
Lovely guitar! I always wanted a Guild since I fell in love with Soundgarden and saw Kim playing it...I mistakenly thought it was a Gibson Sg but having a closer look at a picture in a magazine and everything was clear... Enjoy it, man! You deserve... All the best.
Such a cool guitar! You've definitely got Kim's riffs dialed down and some excellent playing! I've got a Polara S-100 in cherry red stain finish and it plays and sounds beautiful!
Great video, thanks. I can't wait for mine to come. I cannot be more grateful for how affordable it is, and easily accessible even in the EU. Kim has always been my favorite, ever since early nineties. The guitar sounds awesome, let alone it looks incredible, Badmotorfinger (the logo!) being the best thing ever recorded. Again, thanks a lot for the demo. Cheers from Poland!
Great demo, great looking guitar. Great guitar playing as always. I always wanted a Polara because of Kim. Then I hear this week that Fender is doing a more affordable version of Mike McCready’s 1960 Strat. 😬
Great guitarist, great band and very nice guitar! Now you can rock Searching With my Good Eye Closed or #1 Zero. ❤ Soundgarden! We still love and miss you Chris.
I don't have an SG to compare to tbh, but I'd imagine they're not too dissimilar. The necks really comfy and pretty quick, really nice slim D profile i'd say
Similar in proportion to Gibson SG Standards. I have several SGs and a Polara S-100. The neck on the Guild is slimmer than my 90s era SG Standard which has a fatter neck but it's not quite as slim as a Gibson slim taper neck, kind of on between. Body is thicker than the SG and the belly carve is a nice feature. Otherwise other overall dimensions are pretty close like weight etc,,size. The Polaras are great guitars!
They sure are! I love my cherry red finish one it's a spectacular guitar! I hate to say it but I may actually like it more than my 90s era beloved Gibson SG Standard!
@jonathanhudak2059 I wonder what was first an SG or Polera. I'm about to refinish one. It's a project I have wanted to do for a while. Gonna add the phase switch while I'm at it. Have not decided on the scheme yet, some kinda burst though. I use mine for Doom, the neck is so good on them. I thinks it will be even better once I replace the thick poly finish with Tru oil.
@TheGorillafoot Hi GF, Oh the SG was definitely first as it replaced the Les Paul in 1961. SGs were in their first 3 years roughly 1961-1963 actually referred to as Les Paul's. Today those are referred to as SG Les Pauls. The S-100s were a totally different body shape in the 1960s and was redesigned as an SG influenced body shape as we know them today in 1970. HTH. Sounds like a cool project you have going on there!
I was at a store about a month ago and they had the white and black S-100. I was like where were you when I was buying my Epi G-400 twenty something years ago 😭😭😭 I'd definately get this instead of the Epi now...
LETS PLAY ALL, I'm guessing Kim Thayil used the out of phase mode with his wah pedal? Which soundgarden sounds did Kim Thayil use the out of phase pickups mode? Maybe he used the out of phase pickup mode on the soundgarden live concerts for solos?
@@LetsPlayAll try to listen to all the soundgarden albums to see if you can find when he uses that out of phase mode. He must use it often to put it on his artist series guitar.
That string angle from the nut to the tuning pegs could cause tuning issues. If the tuning stability is great, then... Great! I'd love to try this guitar, put it in drop C and mess around.
One of the key things Kim has talked about for his S-100s over the years was that the pickups were at least slightly microphonic, and he'd use that to blow over the strings for weird effects. Did Guild replicate that for the signature version?
The limited USA version of which there will be only 30 they had Jason Lollar hand wind some vintage HB 1 clones. The USA version seems to be a clone of Kim's white S 100 that be used in the 80a and early 90s . It's quite possible Lollar cloned the Pickups in Kim's Vintage S 100 . There was quite a bit of variance in,the old HB 1 pickups in terms of output.. some were 7k while others were wound as high As 8 8K. I believe the modern HB 1 pups are wound to 7k which is the standard for vintage HB 1s but they were being wound hotter for a couple of years,in the 70s The 7K,HB 1s punch way, above their weight and the A2 Mags keep them from being to bright.
I love this guitar but not really a soundgarden fan. But is there a reason why you could not use this as a blues guitar or guitar for classic rock ? I love the Hb1 pu's and the out of phase switch.
I got an s100 a year or so ago. The humbuckers and metal work started corroding and became pitted after a few months with very limited home use. I sent it back.
I do get to keep it :-) It'll be featuring in a load more lessons coming soon. Not sure on exact price tbh. I don't have an SE Custom to compare to but on sheer looks this one would get my vote over a PRS, but that's just personal preference. And I have a Core model haha
The one thing that erks me though....why do the neck inlays and side markers stop at 17? In all honesty thats f'n ludacris. The inlays dont care so much about i suppose but no side markers?
