    Wow Bob !
    Well done simple and compacted, lov it..... Should do a video of how you put everything together that going to be great. What I suggest you is adding a solar pannel for charging the batery and a better antenna w/ a portable mast for POTA or traveling around.

    Great idea to include an antenna in the box (especially when you can add the magnetic mount)

    Good first attempt, would suggest adding some sort of capacity meter (like a powerwerx BVM-100) to keep track of the battery. Lithium phosphate unlike an AGM does not exhibit a linear relationship between the battery voltage and remaining capacity. With the bioeenos the voltage will stay solid and then at its depletion shutdown without warning. I would use some sort of a metal brace under the radio to hold it up and take advantage of the cubbyhole below to store things like the mic or a victory cigar. As with antennas, keep in mind the radiation exposure limits when transmitting with the antenna so close to you, keep it under 10W, and watch for stray voltage if its a 1/4wave. I would personally suggest using a half wave antenna which eliminates your need for a ground plane. My backpack is installed with my HT a Nagoya RH660S, needs no groundplane, about 11" retracted and 42" extended, good for 10W and gives me at least a 2.1dBi of gain. It is a bit fragile, but it comes in SMA, SMA-R, or BNC. Go for the BNC one. I've smacked enough branches to scrape paint off and I've only had one fail out of six or seven currently in use. used outdoors when its not raining.
    Along with any radio, its better to include the manual. seeing that you have space on your lid, here's my way to keep things together. Buy a chipboard, then cut the board to shape your lid and glue it to the lid. I use it in my go kits to hold the various ICS forms back when I was still active in ARES simulated exercises. For me every box I've built is designed to be easily understood by another ham who may find it after I become an /SK in a disaster area and is equipped with everything they may need to learn how to use it. circuit diagrams, manuals, repeaters in the memory, etc, printed, laminated, stowed. Tools are included so that anyone can strip them for parts or use them as is, but that's my design philosophy, to each their own :)
    the Bioeeno 20AH is the perfect balance for basically every mobile up to even the Base stations. For me I try to equip my go-kits with some kind of solar charging function just so if the suns out and I happen to be able to field a panel I can run off of that. Something like a Powerwerx MPPT-150-14.6 takes up almost no room and plugs right into the Rig runner and its there as a side option. Obviously with more features it gets heavier, ultimately its up to the user to consider what's important.
    I think this kit is nice for what it is, its elegant in its simplicity and looks like a winner the way it is. Now that you built it, use it, use it, use it and then the design will start to transform to shape your usage habits.

    Looks like a good plan….. I think you might need more ground surface for the antenna. Female banana plug mount to the metal….and ground wire. Have you checked the SWR. I made my first one days after 9/11. I called it my Jump Box….lol

    Could you do a control head separation cord then lay the radio flat, you could Velcro the faceplate on the lid or even use a rj_ _ waterproof connector for a more remote use

    • @bob_kd5qdq

      I have long since thrown away the receipt and peeled the labels off. But the inside of the box is 12" wide, and about 9.5" front to back. The bottom of the box is about 4.5" deep and another inch or so in the lid. Good Luck.

    Try some 3D printed folding legs like on a Yeasu 817 or a folding IPhone stand. Even old CB stand may work...
    A old lens cleaning cloth is good for screen protector...

    If this has been mentioned please forgive me, but are you using a BMS with the Lithium bat?

    • @bob_kd5qdq
      @bob_kd5qdq  Год назад

      This brand of batter has the BMS built into the brick. That is why I like them so much. You can do power in or out, and they will take care of the details.
      I am not sure it would handle solar, so check the details for your self there. But, this will take care of power from a power supply just fine.

    can we use powerbank as power supply boss ? 🙏🏼

    • @bob_kd5qdq
      @bob_kd5qdq  Год назад

      super great question. Couple thought assuming you are talking about a USB battery pack device. The designed output on USB is 5V, and the expected input on HAM gear is 12V. So the 5V would need to be converted. There is always loss in conversion, so do not expect efficiency, but it may be a descent secondary solution if you can find a good converter. Keep in mind the amount of AMPS you would need for UHF/VHF, and also for HF (if you use it for that). They need a lot.
      Next, if the USB ports on the power distribution convert 5v to 12v, would they also allow it to convert in the other direction? I doubt it, and I doubt it would send enough juice for the HF rig...but it's a cool thought.

      The best part?
      I plug my power supply into one of the ports of the rig runner and it will charge the battery. I just have to turn on the battery switch. The bioenno battery connections go both directions as do the ports on the rig runner.
