Interesting and informative. I particularly like the footage of Professor Ching and Maggie Newman doing sword form together. Iam a former student of Maggie's and still practice the form she taught ( almost 40 years later ).

Dear Ken: It was a good interview with Nils. Today (Saturday, May 16, 2020) we'll have William C. Phillips ("Bill") as a guest on "Zooming With Zak" (our teacher Allen Zaklad who is a student of Bill). Did you like the red wine? Also, I think you wanted to say "exorcist" regarding the lady in New York. I hope to get to see you one day when America is healthy and good again. Best, James Chan, Philadelphia

3:50 You start asking about hierarchy, but divert to asking about lineage. As he explains, hierarchy and lineage are different concepts. Lineage is to do with the transmission and preservation of a particular style or form from one generation to the next; hierarchy is to do with the respect, authority and recognition of teachers awarded to them by their students. Like you, I have also come across “teachers” whose ego interferes with the teaching/learning process, and who would claim to be “Masters”. But I have heard or read (can’t recall where) that it is the student who recognises a true Master; and the best teachers are also the most modest and humble.
