Good video. Its just a bit too long. Also you can get to the VVT oil filter without removing the alternator. It is a very tight squeeze, but doable. I have removed the VVT oil filter on three different 1ZZFE engines used on the Corolla and Matrix without removing the alternator.
I think both can be done without removing the alternator, thus saving you a lot of time unless you want more room. I guess I removed the alternator to make things a little easier and to show it on video a little better also. I know my videos are long, but it's a step-by-step process. I try not to make them too long, but sometimes I can't help it so I do what I can. I am very detailed-oriented and I typically don't like to skim on stuff. Thanks for watching.
The intake actuator solenoid uses hydraulic pressure (engine oil in this case) to activate the valve timing mechanism which is the intake cam phaser/intake cam gear actuator not to be confused with the solenoid. So this helps to retard or advance the engine's timing as needed. If the solenoid is not leaking or if you don't have a check engine light for timing codes then I would just leave it alone until there is a problem. This generation Corolla only uses variable valve timing on the intake side only. There is no VVT-I on the exhaust side, but later generation Corollas had both on the intake and exhaust sides.
@Jansenwilliams6494 What kind of rough idle are you having? Does it come and go or is it always there? How is the acceleration? Does it hesitate or skip while accelerating?
I have P2007 error code on my 05 corolla. P2007 - Intake Manf Runner Control Stuck Closed bank2 a) - Do you think this will shut down the engine light?

Good morning moose question, what does the actuator do with the oil. And I have 248k on my car. Should I change mine ?

@moosemobileautorepair I forgot to mention it's 2007 corrolla and sounds a little rough at idle. And no codes
