Thanks Andrew! I went through the same thing with my f150. I saw your post and out of exhaustion and fucking tears I threw on the rumble. Holy Shit! Mature, deep, usable tone. Thanks dude! Literally giggling while driving to and from work.......
The flowmaster 50 series DELTA FLOW, are the mufflers to get if you want that sound without the inside drone. They are my go to mufflers for my street car. Sound really good on the outside without being obnoxious(still turn heads). When you roll up the windows you can listen to your tunes and or have a conversation no prob.
WHY did you cut off the thrush mufflers so close? Now you'll have a hard time reusing them on another car, or being able to sell them. Cut at the exhaust pipe, not the muffler
All gm lovers in America would be proud honking down a highway in one of those.. I'd so love to have another slightly obscure family car like that again. They all have a distinct character which is undeniable.
I sincerely have to say this is a GEM well preserved and reminds me of the 1973 movie Shaft in Africa where his princess drove and met him in a 1968 PONTIAC CATALINA by the desert corn field which is of a Olive green and white top color.
Cool video man! Which are louder super 44s or thrush welded? I'm looking for louder inside and out. I prefer a crisp tone instead of a deep and smooth sound.
Had Thrush on my V8 500 70 Eldo Nice and low rumbling Going with Thrush again for my 69 Eldo 472 To me they have the best of both worlds Thanks for the video
cut a hole on top of the exhaust pipe 5 to 7" s in front of each muffler then install a section of pipe 12"s long in the shape of an L or slight J shape and cap the other end of the pipe it will kill the drone sound
@@16abindIt sounds awesome. I’m installing headers/true dual 3” right now on my 79’ 400 I’m leaning towards trying a resonator/muffler combo. Your video was helpful
I respectfully disagree. I am the owner of a Dodge Coronet with a 440 big block. I too tried the "Rumbler" mufflers (Autozone). It was loud. About as loud as your Pontiac when you were first cruising with windows down. An old timer once told me the two hardest engines to quiet down were the big block Pontiacs & Mopars. I suspect you're experiencing less of the annoying loud "Waaa!" sound of the Rumblers because your Catalina has excellent sound deadening in passenger compartment compared to my old Dodge.
Just take the mufflers right off and run straight pipes. You won't ever find a muffler to come close and you won't be disappointed at all. Specially with those big Pontiac engines. For serious.
@@BobSmith-mc7uq Who cares. That had nothing to do with my comment. I am from Socal born and raised. I could care less how anyone votes. It's personal choice.
Best thing to do is build a time machine and go back in time and buy a factory type system. This is necessary because the muffler makers refuse to make the 3tube reverse flow deals they made back then(just too loud 2 tube el cheapos)
Hoping we will get more videos soon. Very interesting to watch you taking good care of that beauty!
I love how happy you got when you went to the parts store
That reminds me of Dad's old 66 Pontiac Catalina his was white top white body white interior and his also had the fender skirts
I sold several of those, always positive feedback.
That beauty has more STEEL on both bumpers than there is in an entirely new car today.
💪💯
R22541 Rumble $55 plus taxes/free shipping on Amazon, $60 plus taxes at Oreilly's. The muffler is manufactured by Magnaflow.

Bigger diameter piping is a good way to get a deeper tone

04 Crown Vic with SCT tune,
x pipe, twin Rumbles,
and 3 inch turndowns. Love the Rumbles and the fact they are cheap OG FLOWMASTER 40 clones.
I just got two of these can't wait to put these on my yukon
I felt like I was watching a horror movie or about to witness a felony 😮

You're ride sounds awesome with just straight pipe that what have on my 1976 Buick century
Glasspacks are my favorite, ive spent 1000s on exhausts over the years and i always end up w glass packs in the end lol

It's been about a year since you installed the rumble muffler, how are they holding up? I have pair of turbo mufflers and had a terrible drone.
Cool video man!

I'm looking for louder inside and out.
I prefer a crisp tone instead of a deep and smooth sound.
Thrush are probably better. Super 44s though have the deep amazing sound I prefer. 100% the super 44s over thrush for me but that's just my preference

Thanks for the video
Go with borla sportsman racing muffler you will love it
H pipe and a few weights tends to help drone
You can double the mufflers as in 2 on each side
The exhaust sounds great and i'm guessing by how quiet the exhaust is the engine still has the stock exhaust manifolds.-
What is the part number on the rumble
Beauty car bro!!!!
What are the mufflers on the car in the 41 seconds of the video?
Which ones did you end up going with?
Nice car and it sounds amazing , I am going to install a 2.5 inch on my V8 Sonoma with headers then dump it before the rear axle . Cheers 🇨🇦
Do you have the part number for the thrush muffler you have on your car
Don't remember. Try 17655
@@16abind what is the rest of the system with the Rumble mufflers? Crossover? Headers or manifolds? If headers, what brand and style?
What are you running on it now? Have you tried super 40s ?
Haven't had the car for a year now. But I had the magnaflow on it. 40s are ok but I prefer the deeper sound. All time favorite mufflers are super 44s
Try some spintech mufflers
Spintechs have a unique sound. Have them on 3 different trucks...2 Fords & a GMC.
Starting them up brings the SMILE!
Nobody messes wit your stuff in that corner when you are gone? How did you get your own little cubby in a parking garage anyway?
Doing this outside in a parking garage? fahkin mint! I know how it is to work in a parking lot outside an apartment
cut a hole on top of the exhaust pipe 5 to 7" s in front of each muffler then install a section of pipe 12"s long in the shape of an L or slight J shape and cap the other end of the pipe it will kill the drone sound
I'll have to remember that for next time. Thanks

Ture dual exhaust is always quieter than one muffler
Nice clean ride 389 or 400
400
H pipe or X pipe fixes that. X pipe sounds the best but H pipe would probably take more drone out than the X.
X pipe takes out way more drone

U need quiet Mufflers for that style of car, those other Mufflers don't suite the car
Then again I have 3 in exhaust a giant cam an no tail pipes lol
Sounded like an old tractor
sounds like your not runin with a h pipe or x pipe....if so try one..
I would take the old muffler off your hands lol
that car needs a little more timing
Idle sounds way low.
Rumble made by magnaflow
I have the rumbles on my Pontiac and I hate them the drone is terrible lol
