Freddie..knowing he's dying.. able to laugh at himself. Genius!
The whole Innuendo-Album is top notch imo. What a legacy Queen left us. And how Freddie, sick as he was, pulled it off. I love this song in particular and the video. But it is also difficult to ignore, how sick he looked already .. and what this video must have cost him.
The assorted videos including the making of this video, along with the makings of several others in these last 2 albums, never performed in concert, are well worth watching.
AGREE, Innuendo is my favorite album (along with Made In Heaven)
God bless Freddie Mercury. What courage it took to get behind the camera and his physical state he could make a joke out of his pain and anguish. You have to admire him on so many levels.😊

Prada, my friend - this era of Freddie, as he deteriorated on the way to his tragic death, but still managed to create, sing and face each day no matter what it brought… THIS Freddie is my hero and inspiration as I face my own serious medical issues : Stage 4-b (metastatic), Grade 3 (aggressive growth) Endometrial Cancer.
At my age and stage, I have a 15-20% chance of still being alive in 5 years - but look at the last 5 years of Freddie’s life ! Barcelona opera album with La Superba , Montserrat Caballé… The Miracle and Innuendo albums with Queen… day after day of recording raw vocals for his bandmates to complete “afterwards” (Many of which ended up on the posthumous album Made in Heaven)
His sheer strength, his lack of complaining, and his utter determination to create as long as he could … beyond pain and fear… THIS is my Freddie, the ”friend I never met” … I hope to tap into just a fraction of his legendary strength.
Be brave, darling, just as Freddie was, and experience life to the fullest. Just keep on trying and keep on smiling and whatever will be will be... ❤

Freddie was very weak at filming the video and he had to be caked in make-up. In quiet moments Freddie took himself off to be with the penguines and gave them water. Under the studio lights they were baking, and as ill as he was, he was only concerned for their health.
This video is bittersweet, at least to me, because I love how Freddie is singing in his lower registers, but watching him as he is fading out of the life is so sad.
I felt so sad, at this point Freddie’s one foot was deteriated and most painful. So to see him getting down on the floor and doing a little skip, made me cry to think the pain he was battling. You can watch the making of this video. There are at least two other videos of making of the song One Vision. Really entertaining and in the studio. I also want to mention a much more recent by Roger Taylor called Say it’s not true. Roger and Freddie were very close friends as well as the whole band. It’s great music, with Jeff Beck. Love it you will too. Roger never got over the fact that he was three blocks away from Freddie’s house when he got the call that Freddie was gone. Queen loved each other like close brothers

Even though this was a little sad because of Freddie’s health and it was one of his last recordings. The outtakes are funny, because the penguin pooped all the couch. To be able to laugh in the circumstances is inspiring to me.
Freddie was taking a lot of medication by this point and they sometimes really messed with his head even causing hallucinations. He wrote this song about those experiences and he even managed to express some humor about it all. If you watch the video again and think about all that is going on as being part of a fever dream it is both funny and makes perfect nonsense.
During filming the penguin was on the couch with the guys and it unexpectedly crapped next to Freddie. Freddie turned and said “Roger! Did you do that?” It’s on video but I can’t remember where I saw it. Probably a behind the scenes video but it was funny. 😁
Freddie said: Roger! What did you do?! 😂
Freddie's meds were messing with his head (we've all been there 😂) he was so concerned about the penguins 😂 there is a Making of this that's hilarious.
Freddie wanted penguins because of Brian. Brian loves penguins. But yes, Freddie was so concerned, he worried that they didn't get too hot ... ❤️

I love this music video .. very Tim Burton-isk (Edward Scissorhands). I can appreciate the fact that Freddie kept his sense of humor during filming! He & friend Peter Straker, stayed up all night coming up with the one-liners for this song! Probably giggling all night, too! 🤣🤣
Freddie was aware of the risk of aids induced dementia this is the basis of the song. The band were shocked that Freddie wanted to do a video as by this time half of his right foot had been amputated as had so of his calf muscle. He was in unimaginable pain and needed to rest between each scene they had prepared a bedroom off set for him. By this time he was very thin and could no longer retain heat. So in this video Freddie was wearing 2 layers of thermals and 2 layers of other clothes. Everyone was nervous about Freddie doing this but he was determined so it was done. He wanted to show that he still knew how to have fun. The makeup was because of tumors on his face it was shot with a filter and in black and white to hide his gaunt and pale colouring. It was a brave thing to do.
Love your reaction but please don't tie yourself in knot ms and feel that you have to justify not liking all their songs,we won't hate you 😊. And I think knowing the back story helps people to embrace this song. Blessings from England xx

Freddie was very ill at this point ... he was going slightly mad because of AIDS meds he was taking and he came with the song lyrics and the video making fun of himself...
And yes he was going slightly mad. What he had to deal with was incredibly heart shattering. He was going through hell at this point. The physical hell and the pain of heart ache ,With a smile on his face. He had/ has
the heart of a king and the soul of a God.
The make up was to hide his kaposi Sarcoma. And he had no body weight.
He was freezing And in terrible pain while filming this video

Freddie was very sick, but still humorous. Bananas were Freddie's favorite fruit, he tended to eat 4 to 6 a day.

Freddie’s talking about how his illness sometimes gives him the symptoms of dementia making him feel like he’s going crazy.
Freddie is playing Lord Byron here. An English poet and member of the house of lords who was persecuted for his beliefs and lifestyle.

Thanks for reacting to my suggestion. It's fair to say that this isn't a Queen classic as you said. But it's a great video. Whilst you couldn't find the information about the song, it was written to reflect where Freddie was at when he was at times delirious, but obviously with full on tongue in cheek humour
I'd love to see you react to "Gimme The Prize(Kurgan's Theme)" off of Queen's 1986 album *_A Kind Of Magic_* from the film *_HIGHLANDER_* 🗡 Written by Brian May, it's one of Queen's hardest hitting heavy metal songs!👍

This was in februar -91. Freddie was so thin, he had very much cloths under the dress. It was Peter Straker and Freddie whos made this, its a song about Freddie begun to feel crazy about the medicin he took for his AIDS, but him and Straker had a funny nigth making it much laf, they had so much ide in there head combo with I think, and have heard on interview much alcohol….I can see them 😂😂🍸🍸

This song really has made me kind of made me feel kind of like they were going mad like queen was going mad like maybe Freddie Mercury at some point was going mad. I’m just kidding by the way.
