    Nice playthrough. Thanks! But, @36:59, the new Inventory Barrage says *Discard* any number of Item cards, not Destroy. I believe you are supposed to discard from hand in this case, but I believe you destroyed something that was in play (though it's difficult to tell)? But, yeah, this is a change from EE.

    I find it really funny that you talked about how you don't like Infrared Eyepiece against the one villain where that card is REQUIRED. You could have been using Infrared Eyepiece to check for Devastating Aurora and discard it. Yes, she shuffles her deck a lot with her constant discovery, but if you can find Devastating Aurora it's way better off in her trash than her deck.

    So my game group has been playing Classic Sentinels for years. When I got the definitive edition we randomly selected our villain and environment like we always do and Citizen Dawn was the villain chosen. HOWEVER, my buddy accidentally grabbed the Critical Event Citizen Dawn instead. We still won, but damn, I can see why you'd need those collection cards to make them work.

    I think you can turn the cold damage from absolute zero's fire damage = cold damage card to his own face to turn it into healing. You could in the old version, I didn't notice if they changed that. If you could do that it might have kept you alive a bit longer. It probably wouldn't have mattered.

      @OneStopCoopShop  2 года назад +1

      Oh for sure, I was healing with that throughout the video. But if you mean the very end, I knew I wasn’t going to win, so wanted to at least blast Dawn a bit ;)

    What do you consider to be more difficult/taxing to keep track of: three heroes in this game or 2 heroes in Marvel Champions? Does the fact that you're only worried about damage make this one better to solo (not true solo) than MC or is that the wrong impression?

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  5 месяцев назад +1

      I'd say this one with 3 is easier than MC with 2. Turns are very simple for each character here, whereas adding another MC hero gives you a lot more to deal with and track.

      @@neutral1980 I have played the base game and available expansion content quite extensively over the last two years. Ultimately, I honestly feel it is a step up from the original game in every aspect. It does not change the core gameplay or feel, only smooths things out and speeds them up. If you played and enjoyed the original you will almost certainly like this more. If you played and did not like the original, it is unlikely to change your mind. if you never played the original at all, I would say it’s a great game for superhero fans who like strategic card games and don’t mind a little bit of bookkeeping and overhead. the decks are unique, the combos can be fantastic with some of the characters, but depending on the villain you are fighting the bookkeeping can be a handful.

I was hoping for more from them in changing her to be challenging but also fun to deal with... there is a core mechanic that I do like and that is how each of the "sets" of citizens work off one another but then she just gets in the way and ruins it... I think if she didn't attack and just brought in more citizen that would of been a much better boss then how its currently designed... what a waste of potential... thanks for sharing...

    According to the rules, when Devastating Aurora destroyed Absolute Zero's Item cards, triggering card plays and new Item cards being played, Devastating Aurora was still in effect and would have destroyed the new Item cards too.
    Page 21: "While an effect is resolving, if new cards enter play or something alters the elements of the game that can be affected, does the effect apply to the new cards/elements? Yes, effects essentially constantly check for anything they can affect, attempting to "solve" the game state until they are resolved. So, for example, an attack that hits all targets in play will hit any targets that come into play while that attack is happening."
    The same thing happens in the original version. For example, KNYFE's Focusing Conduit Blade lets you play an Equipment card when it's destroyed. If something destroys all Equipment cards, it destroys the Blade and anything played as a result of the Blade being destroyed.

      On the plus side, damage Absolute Zero converts to healing doesn't count for Thermal Shockwave backlash, since he heals _instead_ of taking damage. It's never actually damage.
      Devastating Aurora is a little better with normal Dawn, since it now destroys all Ongoing cards instead of just Hero Ongoing cards, so she destroys her own cards. It's Eclipse Dawn making her Ongoing cards Indestructible that hurts here.

    I think you may have played Devastating Aurora wrong at the beginning of round 3. When Ice Shield was destroyed I believe Devastating Aurora was still resolving so that any cards Ice Shield played on destruction would still be destroyed by Devastating Aurora. I might be wrong about that though.

    • @OneStopCoopShop

      Hm, you know, I think you are probably right about that. All those silly nested effects and actions!!

    • @billedens4749
      @billedens4749 2 года назад +1

      PS - You calculated the damage wrong for Absolute Zero at the end of the game. The card says when he would be dealt cold damage he heals instead. So you don't count the 9 points of healing. You only did 4 cold damage. This is why Absolute Zero is one of the most complicated heroes in the game. In your defense, playing a solo game gives you a lot to keep track of. Add on the changes to the cards given your historical knowledge of the previous version and I think you did a pretty darn good job. Sentinels has always played better with multiple people as you have more eyes keeping track of things. It is definitely a game for people that take joy in fun mechanical interactions between cards. While it is pretty simple at first, It can be a surprisingly deep game.

    Thanks for the playthrough. I so want to like this game when it first came out, but I was really turned off by the difficulty of the game. And I can't really call it difficulty because difficulty to me means that it's tough but fair (like a Dark Souls style video game). But this game did not feel fair whatsoever. The bosses flip far too many cards and have a ton of health, and even their minions are more powerful than you. Then you have to deal with the environments on top of that, and oh wait, now the boss is immune to damage, or gets to go a second time, and deal all the damage to the lowest health hero. It feels like the kind of game where if you don't get the right cards at the right time, there is absolutely no chance of winning. Except it takes you almost an hour or even more sometimes to finally come to that conclusion. And if I'm a Super Hero, I should be able to do more than 1 damage to a minion on my turn, for crying out loud!
    Anyways, rant aside. When I heard that they had revamped the game with this new Definitive Edition, I was interested to see what a real playthrough of it would be like. How much did they change? Does it flow better? Do you feel like you stand more of a chance? Is it worth it to dive back in and give it another go?
    Well, your playthrough has shown me that no, it's not worth it. I appreciate you posting this video where you got destroyed by the Citizen Dawn. I have seen too many videos where the player happens to win, and win easily, with maybe 1 or 2 iffy points. Your playthrough is more like what I experienced in my games. I get enough frustration and beating my head against the wall from life, I don't need it in my relaxation/fun time, lol.
    I'm happy that others like this game, and that some even feel that this is in their top games of all time. I wish I could join you in that feeling.
    Thanks again for another great playthrough!

    • @icurnvss
      @icurnvss 2 года назад +1

      @@OneStopCoopShop Thanks for the response. I appreciate that you're able to win consistently on other bosses, but when I see a scenario where someone loses with over 80 health still left on the boss, and they know how to play the game, that just highlights to me that there's something wrong in the game. The only things I saw that could have been done differently based on the comments was that Citizen Dawn was supposed to do MORE damage to you earlier in the game. So I don't see how that scenario was even remotely winnable with your setup and card draws. You couldn't have done much different at all to change the outcome.
      Maybe, in all the games I played, I just got bad card draws all around. But it happened too many times, and soured my view of the game. In the end, there isn't anything to change my mind about the state of the game in the Definitive Edition vs the original version, unfortunately.

      I'm personally glad to see new versions of the bosses and scenarios to make them more difficult to overcome. I have beaten every regular villain in the original Sentinels of the Multiverse on the Ultimate Level (i.e. Advanced Level plus Challenge Mode). I used to lose a ton in the beginning, but just keep at it. You must master each hero deck, and how to overcome each villain, and on top of that handle each environment. Fantastic game!

    I agree with you. I’m surprised they kept Citizen Dawn’s all clear, which means someone ALWAYS has to play a deck control hero against her. Not fun. Not enough changes to cause owners of original game to switch over, but great investment for newbies. I’ll say absolute zero is way, way better to play, and my biggest disappointment was the Variants. Instead of giving a new hero with a new look to play with, it’s just a comic book cover. I know that is the “theme”, but I just slide it under the original hero card because I can’t stand the look of it. It completely takes me out of the feeling I’m in a battle. “Now I’m going to fight Citizen Dawn with my team of... uhhh.... comic books in bags!!” Sigh....

      @@OneStopCoopShop yeah, I like variants. Just wish they looked like actual heroes is all.

      I know this is a month late, but there are other ways to deal with Dawn's Devastating Aurora. Firstly, it now destroys her own stuff as well, meaning if she has been throwing ongoings out, they are now gone.
      Secondly, it does nothing to hero targets. So a fully set-up Unity or Captain Cosmic really doesn't notice much, they may lose a few cards, but the majority of their set-up is additional targets.
      And finally, there are many more cards now that benefit you from being destroyed. Bunker actually healed from his card being destroyed. AZ got a free draw and play, and I know Ra has a card that allows him to deal a big chunk of damage (I think 3 damage to one target) and draw two cards when it is destroyed.
      And that's in addition to the faster set-up where AZ was basically able to get fully back into the fight with a "single" card play.
      So, yes, Dawn's board wipe is still very harsh. She is a very powerful opponent. But I'd argue that the impact is far less in the new edition.

      @@Chaosmancer7 good points! I still don't like it as a design choice, even with the points you make. Much prefer the bigger fix they did to similar cards like Omnitron. But I agree with you that it is less bad than it once was.

    So many mixed feelings. It's nice to see a workable Bunker for a change but as I have absolutely everything for the first version of this game I'm insulted when they described this as 'the version it was intended to be'. I suspect I'll just have to survive without this.

      I think that’s the right choice. It’s not a huge enough change to justify rebuying it all

      @@OneStopCoopShop That is sort of where I am as well. Was initially excited when the Kickstarter launched, but I still have years of play in the expansions that I currently own. It is one of my favorite games and I'm perfectly satisfied with what I have at this point, while at the same time happy that new players will have an improved game to enjoy.

    I will tell you that the Akash'Bhuta villain seriously turned me off from this game, and I might consider selling it. It's an extremely poor design, and 200 HP is WAY too much for it to have. It should have 100 HP. They gave it a difficulty of 4, while it really should be around 9. No idea how they devise these difficulty levels. I also found absolutely NO strategy guides or the right type of heroes needed to beat her. Simply AWFUL. I beat Baron Blade handily, but Akash? Forget it. This was the worst design for a villain that I've ever seen in any board game thus far, truly. This might have to go into the sell pile since I really have no interest in playing other villains. I fear that they'll all be the same type of depressing experience. I mean if they can't accurately judge the difficulty levels of these villains, where a 4 is equivalent to at least an 8, why bother trying out the others?

      I didn’t find her difficult to beat. Her health tends to disappear quickly with multi-target attacks (since every hit on her minions is also a hit on her).
      But if you aren’t enjoying the game, yeah, move on to something better for you. Definitely not worth it to spend time trying to make a game “work” when it’s just not fun for you, right?

      @@OneStopCoopShop very true. But it's when the minions are destroyed that she's hit. The problem is destroying them when so many are out. I don't think any combo of heroes can really do it, and I've read a lot of forum posts about how people have been having difficulty with her. She's much harder than what the difficulty level states. If you do another playthrough of this, pick Akash for the villain.

      @@PublicExecution I just finished playing with Unity, Absolute Zero, and Bunker and this is only the second time I've played Sentinels DE, but didn't have an issue defeating her, although she did take down Unity. I think perhaps you misunderstood a rule and made her harder than she is. She definitely isn't impossible to beat. Bunker can take out multiple minions sometimes in 1 round for instance.
