I always loved the Iron Giant, as a kid and as an adult. When I finally got it on DVD, I showed it to my nephew who was 2 at the time, and he loved it so much, we would watch it on repeat, which was fine by me, I had to give him my copy to watch at his house and I got a new copy for my house. I hope that the lessons from this movie sticks with him when he grows up. I wanted to show him that he doesn't have to be the person everyone expect him to me, but to be the person he wants to be. I think this is a movie all children to watch, and all adults need to re-watch to be reminded of this lesson.
When I was younger my family and I would go to Blockbuster every two weeks and rent VHS tapes. Every time we went I would get the Iron Giant. At one point the store manager just gave me the VHS and said I can keep it.
When my Blockbuster was closing on December 21st, 2010 I went in a few days earlier to return COD Black Ops and the guy at the counter said just keep it since we’re closing anyway.
I saw this movie on opening day. Had no expectations. I then went back to the theater and saw it again on opening night. I never saw a film twice on the same day before -- I was over 30 years old. It is still an absolute masterpiece.
ohhhhh my god let me tell you about this movie i seen this movie in theater's with my elementary class and towards the end of the movie everyone (including me) was crying and when i can home my mom asked me how was the movie and i just said the robot blew up and went to my room, to this day i have not fully recovered.
After mentioning the "souls don't die" scene, I went back and rewatched it. Yeah... it's still as poignant and true now as then. I really, really love this movie.
I mean the minions movie is breaking box office records because of a dumb gimmick, and you need ridiculous little characters that you can sell as little toys to actually thrive. He just wanted to make an honest film, and that's that
I absolutely love this movie, I've never been an emotional person when watching movies, but this one always has my heart wrenching, watched it the other day on Netflix and it had me in tears on the verge of crying I never knew I could get emotionally attached to a robot 💙😭😊
Douglass Newdell Yeah! Well for me it is, I watched it on Wednesday I think I hope it's on Netflix for everyone, everywhere because it's a great movie and everyone needs to give it a watch
When i first became a fan of this movie, i rented it on video until my mom just finally got me the DVD version. By then, i think I'd seen it at least 50 times, maybe more.
You know, I hate when 2D and 3D animation are mixed together, but this one always seemed to work for me. I guess it's because of that excellent programming that shifted the lines a bit. More shows and movies need to do that if everything is not already digital.
MCLegoboy Yes, it needs to be organic to the film. If CG elements have a hand drawn feel then it isn't jarring. Like Long John Silver in Treasure Planet versus the ship or the 'whale'.
It's nice for the animators because most times it is for vehicles and robots that have very rigid structures that need to stay consistent, but there is always something off about the way they look. Many times they have a different render quality about them that differs from the other components of a show. They may have gradual shadows, specular highlights, and movements that are a little too fluid compared to everything else. There is also detail. The scale may change, but the detail does not, so then it can also seem out of place perspectively on wider shots. It also depends on how much it is used. For a show like Futurama, which you seem to be a big fan of, 3D animation is used everywhere in the show, and so the viewer just gets used to it, but for me, it still feels off at times. One of the earlier times this 2D/3D thing bugged me was Ben 10's Rustbucket. For at least the first Season of the show, it was drawn, and then the out of nowhere at the beginning of a new season, 3D Rustbucket. I kind of get it because it was a very detailed RV so it saved production time, but seeing it in 3D just felt wrong with the new rendering on it, and the moving antennae and rocking of the RV as it turned.
Ah...Treasure Planet. That movie seems to stand out from nearly every animated Disney movie out there. First movie to make me cry when there where moments between Jim, and John.
This is such an underrated movie. I managed to find it and watch it again three months ago. Watching it again as an adult, it still doesn't fail to make me cry. You truly appreciate the movie more once knowing how difficult it was to make it, especially with the (at the time) new technology that was created specifically for it.
This is one of my favorite movies it still makes me cry an im 20 year old man. It has more soul than most people an its not only one of the best movies of all time but in my opinion pieces of art.
I agree with you sir I am also 20 years old and I can say without a doubt this movie has more Soul than anything I don't think I've ever watch nowadays movies and games don't have any more soul
I actually saw this in theaters back in 1999. I was 7 years old and instantly fell in love with the movie. It became one of my all time favorite movies and still is. I even watched the VHS so many times it broke! Which did upset me. But I have it on DVD now ^^ I won't lie though I cry at the end every single time.
The Iron Giant be making me feel emotional every time I watch it. Even though I seen it over 100 times and the giant comes back to life at the very end.
Thank you so much for making this! The Iron Giant was one of my all time favorite movies ever since I was 4 years old. I was so excited when I saw this video. :)
I remember watching this when I was in first grade, it was such a great movie but it wasn't until I watched it again last week that I truly started appreciating the movie so much more than I did before. I love this movie so much and it has a place in my heart. "Welcome to downtown Coolsville, population: uh- ME."- Hogarth.
I can definitely thank Cartoon Network for introducing The Iron Giant to me. I haven't seen it in years, so I really need to get around to watching it again. I'm sure it's even better than I remember.
I'm so glad I bought the Ultimate Collector's Edition last week in time for this video. My earliest memory of the were the trailers in some of the VHS tapes I had, and I wanted to see it and own it. My friend recently, before owning the blu ray, later gave me a copy on VHS and I played it over and over. It did make me wanna get the blu ray since I was a collector when it comes to films so I did get it. I remember watching it for the first time on Cartoon Network back when they used to show great films (I think it was the only good film I remember seeing there) and crying in both sadness and joy when it was over. This film deserves much more praise and recognition than they allow. Every time I watched it, the experience got better and better. After looking at the documentary "The Giant's dream", it made me wish I was born earlier to watch it in cinemas multiple times to make financially successful. My top 5 characters from bottom to top are Kent Mansley, Annie, Hogarth, Giant, and Dean. It's not only my top animated films, but one of my top films period.
After seeing this being posted I had to go rewatch it after about 10 years of forgetting it existed. All I want to say is thank you. It brought back a lot of memories.
I absolutely loved this film. From the cold war setting, character design, etc It was a great movie. It struck a chord with my imagination, inspiring my writing and artwork to this day.
I grew up with this movie and its still my favorite movie of all time! Never get tired of it, i always laugh on the same parts, cry on the same parts. Thanks so much for making a 107 facts!!
“What if a gun had a soul and chose not to be a gun?” Genius. “When Hogarth explained to the Iron Giant what a soul is it had the whole team in tears.” “Sir employed students.” 18:44. There are a lot of women on that team. Yay! You bring me so much more for me to love this cult classic even more. My fave character? Hog-Hug! Hogarth.
I just watched this again last night, what a coincident. I am amazed how well The Iron Giant has help, and it still can drive me to tears all these years later.
This is most likely one of my favorite movies of all time and finding out how much love and dedication went into making this movie only makes me appreciate and love it even more!
When I was 6, in yr 1 at primary school, my teacher put this on for us and I thought it was great. I then proceeded to get it for my birthday (when I turned 7). I've seen this movie many times. The other day I decided to pop the DVD into my TV. I forgot how much I adored this movie. I cry every time, it's amazingly touching and I love it so much. I really recommend people watch this.
I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! I went to the opening night of a new theater in town and was given a free ticket. It was the only movie I hadn't seen and thought the premise sounded good. When it came out on DVD, I bought copies for my entire extended family for Christmas. I wish Hollywood would make more movies like The Iron Giant.
You know despite the number of times I've seen this film I never questioned once why didn't the Giant use his weapons to destroy the missile. He easily could've done that and saved both himself and the town but he didn't; he opted for self destruction to save the town. I think it sent a more powerful message that despite the fact he was created as one, he is more than just a weapon
The Iron Giant is #4 on my Top Ten Favorite Non-Disney Animated Movies List. First of all, I like how drawing animation takes center stage in this movie. Although I do like computer animation on occasion, I prefer to see CGI as a side dish to drawing animation. This movie is one of the prime examples of this preference. However, this only proves that I am impressed at how well the drawing and computers blend together. Secondly, Hogarth is my favorite character; not just because he is the child, but also because of the compassion he shows for the CGI robot in the title. Many people say the friendship between Hogarth and this robot is the most touching part of this movie. I agree, and since this is the more child-friendly part of the movie, this is my favorite part of the writing as well. I wish the Iron Giant stayed underrated, since that is why it became so popular in the first place, but this wish only proves that I too appreciate its great qualities. This is why I could not be happier to let this movie into my list of favorite Non-Disney Animated Movies List.
i have never seen this movie, for the same obvious reasons you highlighted in your video. I am making it a priority to see it now however, and I felt like you made an amazing video highlighting what an amazing movie this was with very minimal spoilers (I just know he goes a little war-machine near the end). excellent job! Keep your videos coming! May not mean much, but you just got yourself a new subscriber! :)

I am going to watch the movie again to see those added scenes! I seriously LOVE The Iron Giant! I even remember The Iron Man being discussed in my class once. I think it was either primary or early secondary. I don't remember what happens but i intend to read the book or again if i have it
Since the movie takes place in 1957, I speculate that Hogarth's father was killed during the Korean War. Seeing how he was a Jet Fighter pilot, this would make sense.
brilliant beautiful unforgettable no one is strong enough to resist its power. if this movie doesnt make yoy cry you havent got a heart. my son is grown now and he still crys.. just like all of us....
I actually want to know Brad Bird's reaction to the fact that the Iron Giant appeared in Ready Player One. Because the fact that we all loved the appearance of the Iron Giant there must have been either really pleasing to him or they asked him for permission first.
Favorite childhood movie hands down. Garuentee I've watched it 150+ times.. And now I want to watch it again. I remember as a kid waiting for the sequel to come...
This came out the month before I was born. My uncle let me watch it with him when I was 4. It’s been my favourite movie ever since. I’ve seen it hundreds of times- easily. He gave me the DVD he bought when it came out and I’ve still got it. And have some iron giant tattoos. This film is extremely underrated 😤
i have been waiting for this for the longest time.... weird that didn't suggest it though... and there is is a town called Rock land hmmm coincidence i think not!
13:24 this fact is something I’ve been commenting on every single The Iron Giant clip I’ve watched within the past several days because I really like it lol
17:28 "People alwasy say to me , 'Why don't you make smarter family movies?' The lesson is , every time you do , you get slaughtered" *BULLS___ !* 16:44 - 16:59 "4 months before the movie's official release" MAYBE IF YOU DIDN'T DO THAT , MAYBE YOU *WOULDN'T* "GET SLAUGHTERED" ! OH AND BTW , BAD MOVIES HURT YOU MORE THAN GOOD MOVIES WITH BAD BOX OFFICE
When I was 4, I was afraid of The Iron Giant because I thought the Giant was the villain, (probably because he was really huge and a robot) but now I love the movie and no I do not want a sequel because this movie is a classic enough
Bp1033 You know, the sequel book mentioned there isn't a sequel to this story, as in, it doesn't continue this story, it's simply another story in the same universe. Hogarth makes an appearance, but it's very minor, to the point the second book feels like its own story. So making a movie out of that book wouldn't be too bad and wouldn't hurt the first movie in any way, though it certainly wouldn't have the same impact the first one did. The second book has more of an environmentalist message, so it's not really all that ground breaking.
What if they made a sequel where Hogarth is an adult and explores the world and finds the iron giant in the antarctic and they go back to rockwell to see what everybody is like now and their reaction to see a hero they all thought died

Hogarth: You are who you choose to be.
Iron Giant: Superman...
He didn't die tho
Damn, even though this failed at the box office, at least Brad Bird is now getting the recognition he deserves.
Dang no wonder it didn't get a sequel(aside from it not really needing one)
@@blackbirdfilms1966 Don't think it would have gotten one, anyway, because, like you said, it didn't need one
I still want a sequel
Not only did it fail, it barely made back half of it's budget. Absolute travesty - it's a beautiful movie.

It wasn't the fact that it was a smart movie why it failed, it was because you sucked at marketing WB, you had no one to blame but yourself for that.
Apparently it was Bird's idea to not promote the movie, because WB said they could but it would have to take another year for it to come out.

Since the movie takes place in 1957, I speculate that Hogarth's father was killed during the Korean War. Seeing how he was a Jet Fighter pilot, this would make sense.
I think that's what the film makers were implying too, since, yeah, it would make a lot of sense.
brilliant beautiful unforgettable no one is strong enough to resist its power. if this movie doesnt make yoy cry you havent got a heart. my son is grown now and he still crys.. just like all of us....
I actually want to know Brad Bird's reaction to the fact that the Iron Giant appeared in Ready Player One. Because the fact that we all loved the appearance of the Iron Giant there must have been either really pleasing to him or they asked him for permission first.
I was born a few years after this came out and I grew up watching this movie. I always loved it and I always will love it
Due to the voice actor, I almost expect the Iron Giant to say "we are groot" before he dies and vice versa with groot.
You can hardly expect Groot to say he's Superman in a Marvel film.
loved this movie as a kid. Thanks for the bit of nostalgia
Dudeee i forgot about this film, it was extremely emotional!! I gotta get the DVD now!!
Favorite childhood movie hands down. Garuentee I've watched it 150+ times.. And now I want to watch it again. I remember as a kid waiting for the sequel to come...
"You are who you choose to be." ❤
I keep watching the movie over and over again. They should make a sequel.

The ending part where he said "I'm sup-erman" had me in tears omg

BAD BOX OFFICE
This is my most fav childhood movie ever .. its to die for and now hes on ready player one and im so exited to see it!!!
When I was 4, I was afraid of The Iron Giant because I thought the Giant was the villain, (probably because he was really huge and a robot) but now I love the movie and no I do not want a sequel because this movie is a classic enough
I hope they never make a sequel. It's such a charmingly-excellent film that it works perfectly on its own.
I hope they don't make a sequel, it just doesn't seem right to the story.

You know, the sequel book mentioned there isn't a sequel to this story, as in, it doesn't continue this story, it's simply another story in the same universe.
@@123leyang321 look at childsplay 4 without andy (was that his name? i haven't watched in a while) and personally when they got rid of the kid it started to become way worse
What about a live action iron giant. Like a remake but in real life.
Imagine if other giants came to destroy earth and he had to stop them, while being inspired by superman
