    Written pattern:
    Beginning looop: chain four, join with a sl st.
    ROUND ONE: ch 3 (counts as a treble), 2 dc’s inside the loop. This is one side. Do 5 more sides (1 tr, 2 dc). Join with a slip stitch to the last chain.
    TURN your work.
    ROUND TWO: Ch 3 (counts as a tr). In the stitch we just completed, make 2 dc. All this counts as half a corner, the ch 3 (tr) being the centre of the corner. Continue to the sides. Work a dc on each dc of the previous row (there are two of them).The corners are the little space formed by the trebles. In every corner we do (2 dc, 1 tr, 2 dc). And then again the 2 dc which form the sides. Continue like this until you get to the end. We only made half a corner, so you have to find the start of the 3 starting chains and do 2 dc in that loop. Then the corner is finished, we can join with a sl st. into the top of the ch-3.
    TURN your work.
    ROUND THREE (and all subsequent rounds). Start with ch 3 (=1 tr) and 2 dc in the same loop (this is half of a corner). Then do a dc into each dc and when you arrive at the corner treble, do a corner into that (2 dc, 1 tr, 2 dc). At the end, complete the half corner made at the beginning of the round by making two more dc into the same loop, and join into the top of the ch-3.

    What's great about this style is that it's completely customizable to how you want it to turn out. I made my first one with the traditional granny pattern and added on to the back and front to make it fit me properly, and added 10 - 12 rounds for the sleeves to make them longer so they weren't so baggy. I came here for this style of hexagon to make myself another one that's going to be a pull over with a cowl neck (my new windows are drafty and I spend a lot of my time at my computer for work which is near my windows so the cowl neck will be perfect)

    Lovely tutorial. Could you advise how you decided to do the colour changes? Did you change colour at random intervals when doing the hexagon? Sorry if this is a silly question, I’ve basically done one cardigan with a granny square, but did the rounds the same colour all the way round.

    I LOVE this project! Thank you for making the video. I'm curious about your yarn...did you make spools from scraps? I really love the eclectic look of all the colors with the black trim, but to change colors this many times would break my brain. I'm trying an ombre yarn for my project so the colors will self change, but I would love to try a palette like yours!

    • @Totally_Stitchcraft

      I took all my scrap yarns and my yarn ball winder and then just wound up till I had lots of little yarn cakes of many colors. I tried to pick bright colors next to dark ones and get some fun greens and oranges in there. Ombre yarn is awesome too!

  • @vickynuno-ramsouer9804

    Do you have a picture graph of the hexagon. I’m just having trouble of how many dc you need to put in between the corner. Usually a pattern will say “place 1 dc in each stitch and then at corners you will place 2dc, ch1,2dc, the again dc”. End of the round it will tell you make sure you have 4dc and 4corners with a ch1 space.

    • @Totally_Stitchcraft
      @Totally_Stitchcraft  Год назад

      You can use that exact method for this pattern!

    • @irmar
      @irmar 9 месяцев назад +1

      On the first row, each group is 1 treble and 2 dc. The treble is where the corners will go and the 2 dc are the sides. On the second row, you make a corner of (2 dc, 1 tr, 2 dc) inside the little space made by the treble. The treble is instead of the chains in other patterns (because we don't want a hole). In that treble we put the corner group in the next round, Therefore, the 2 dc that we make on the right an on the left of the treble will become part of the sides of the next round. This means that on each round you will have 2 + 2 = 4 more dcs for the sides.
      1st row: 2 dc
      2nd row: 6 dc
      3rd row: 10 dc.
      And so on.

    • @Totally_Stitchcraft
      @Totally_Stitchcraft  2 года назад +1

      The arms shouldn't become too long, if you think they might then you can seam together the panel to make it half a cardigan and then add additional rows on the bottom for a longer torso

    Is there a way to attach a solid hood?

    • @irmar
      @irmar 9 месяцев назад

      Yes, You just pick some of the stitches along the front panels and some of the back panels and you go straight, making a rectangle. When you think it's big enough, stitch the upper side together. This method will give you a pointy one. If you don't want it pointy, in the last two rows of the rectangle, do a decrease in the centre (work three dc together). This will round the corner a bit.

  • @m-rstringer3750
    @m-rstringer3750 2 года назад +1

    Sarah, what's missing in your terrific design is measurement. I don't mean specific amounts of inches (or in my case, centimetres): I mean HOW did you measure to get your 16 rows ? I crochet like no-one else I've seen, and my dcs are shorter than everyone else's, so telling me a number of rows is pretty useless: should I put a tape-measure around my boobs or my hips to ascertain the width (and divide by 2, as it were) ? :D

    • @Totally_Stitchcraft
      @Totally_Stitchcraft  2 года назад +3

      great question! and my answer is that I don't have a measurement O_O. When you make one hexagon panel, you can hold it up to your body and pretend to wear half a cardigan and if it covers half your body, then it is the right size and you can make a second one

    • @irmar
      @irmar 9 месяцев назад

      Exactly. Find out the circumference around your widest part (chest or belly or buttocks if it's a long one) and divide it by 4. The number that you will get (one fourth of the chest or belly or hip circumference) is the height of the rows you have to make.

      @@Totally_Stitchcraft oh doesn’t look like cotton. I’ve used that yarn and don’t care for it. I’ve made projects from it years ago and it tears are wears out easily.I wont use it again bc of that. Are you sure? It looks more soft and pliable than that yarn. It also is stiff..lily is stiff and has no drape. More for place mats then garments imo.Maybe you are just crocheting loosely!
      I,ve made one of these types with recently with a very large hook and Granny stitch. I t came out longer, but yes the wide sleeves arent that flattering. I have no idea how your video was suggested..

    Not a great tutorial 😕. Not sure where I am going wrong, but I seem to be losing a side and left with 5 sides and not six on the second round.

    • @irmar
      @irmar 9 месяцев назад

      Make sure you make 6 groups in the first round. Then, in the 2nd round, for each treble, you will make a corner (2 dc, 1 tr, 2 dc). On the remaining 2 dcs you will make one dc on each (2 dcs). This should already give you a hexagon.
