I'm really impressed with John Mayer's obvious dedication to studying Jerry's guitar style. Instead of just trying to graft himself into this situation, he approached it as an opportunity to expand and grow. Way to go, Mr. Mayer.

I couldn't agree more. I've seen them twice lately and the Dead many times and John Mayer works his ass off to play Jerry's style and does a pronominal job. He's grown and gained a lot of respect that he so much deserves.

Well have you considered that if people are always gonna make fun of JM that there might actually be a reason? For people like me, I was making fun of this guy before he even got involved with the GD. Him being involved in the GD is just an insult to what the GD is supposed to represent. I guess, if their only interest is to sell tickets now and that's it. Then yeah, bring on the poster boy that all girls idol and that will help. But it sounds like an uneducated Dead fan's version of what they think Dead fans want to hear. Sure, it's easy to say no one can replace Jerry, of course. But God Damn they could have done better. I know local players that are much better at pulling off Dead Covers than this dude.

Tango Nevada you made fun of him why exactly? Because he dated a lot of Hollywood girls? Because it just can’t be because of his skills in the guitar, Eric Clapton himself said he is a master of the instrument, the dude has played with and been acknowledged by the greatest guitarists as being one of the best nowadays and the Dead wouldn’t have invited him to play with them if he wasn’t good enough, get over yourself, mate

@@leonardoleal5092 Because I think he is overrated and a I guarantee if he didn't look like he does, he would not have climbed the ladder as he did. Sure, he can play. But like I said, I know and have seen many local players, even from his home state that are even better than him, but they are not chick magnet he is. If you followed his early career it had nothing to do with his playing, it was all about his looks. And yes, he can play blues and the Grateful Dead well. And as much as I love those 2 things, you could not be a guitar player if you didn't understand they are not that difficult out of all the guitar playing styles. I'll try to say it again. What he is playing is not bad, but I have seen many players that do it better they just don't happen to also have the female magnetism that he has for some reason. If that wasn't a factor, there would be 1000's of players better suited to this job. If you don't think looks play a role in success in this video age, you're just being naive

Bob weir is a freaking genius. Just listen to his fills during Jeff's piano solo. In terms of Mayer, I can't believe there are people out there who don't like him? Listen to his solo starting at 4:17. So tasteful, with the type of phrasing that not many players have. In my humble opinion, he is one of the best guitarists around. When it comes to phrasing, he is in Clapton's league.

Never saw this clip before. Very well played & 2 things I noticed....for all those who complain about D&C's tempo, the tempo here is spot on. And they are clearly having a good time. Thats what its all about.

    • @lomezscamano6474
      @lomezscamano6474 4 года назад

Not true...Tempo is sped up.....They were supposed to stop before the last verse.....They sped up the tempo so they could get the last verse in...Notice ,towards the end, when Bob looks at Bill and Mickey at the 5:47 mark to finish the song and Mayer keeps going through to the last verse.....Thats why the tempo is sped up...

Gone are the days when the ox fall down,
Take up the yoke and plow the fields around.
Gone are the days when the ladies said' "Please,
Gentle Jack Jones won't you come to me."
    Brown-eyed women and red grenadine,
The bottle was dusty but the liquor was clean.
Sound of the thunder with the rain pouring down,
And it looks like the old man's getting on.
1929 when he stepped to the bar, drank to the dregs of the whiskey jar.
1930 when the wall caved in, he made his way selling red-eyed gin.
    Brown-eyed women and red grenadine,
The bottle was dusty but the liquor was clean.
Sound of the thunder with the rain pouring down,
And it looks like the old man's getting on.
Delilah Jones was the mother of twins,
Two times over and the rest were sins.
Raised eight boys, only I turned bad,
Didn't get the lickin's that the other ones had.
    Brown-eyed women and red grenadine,
The bottle was dusty but the liquor was clean.
Sound of the thunder with the rain pouring down,
And it looks like the old man's getting on.
Tumble down shack in Big Foot county.
Snowed so hard that the roof caved in.
Delilah Jones went to meet her God,
And the old man never was the same again.
Daddy made whiskey and he made it well.
Cost two dollars and it burned like hell.
I cut hickory just to fire the still,
Drink down a bottle and be ready to kill.
    Brown-eyed women and red grenadine,
The bottle was dusty but the liquor was clean.
Sound of the thunder with the rain pouring down,
And it looks like the old man's getting on.
Sound of the thunder with the rain pourin' down

I can imagine how emocional this experience's being for him, playing with one of the stronger musical reference of his life.
