Hated the Surron electric dirt bike. Now addicted. I will try to explain why.

- I was fully underwhelmed when I first rode a Surron Light Bee. Zero interest in ever riding one again. Now I am fully whelmed, so here is my take on why this small electric dirt bike feels like a whole new sport.
This channel is not monetized. If you see ads it’s because RUclips wants you to, not me.
Haha, epic new trail opens up. But At the same time, it says it all 😁
I’d not paid any attention to these. I thought they were just another pit bike thing. I can see how they’d be really fun in so many areas that my full size dirt bike isn’t. I live in terrain similar to yours.
They're perfect for forestry, technical twisty riding. They're just so playful and easy compared to a full size dirt bike.
Welcome to the club. I love my Sur Ron. If you haven’t tried one, you have no idea. My KTM was work, my Sur Ron is fun.
Work vs fun. That’s a great summary. Cheers.
Well you can get them in the UK - 4k so *less* than a fancy e-mtb. The only thing is there is nowhere to ride them here, as they have no pedal function they are classed as motorbikes and so are pretty much banned anywhere you would want to ride them. Which, on balance, is probably a good thing in the UK given lack of outdoor spaces to hook around in that also don't have small children waiting around every corner. Still I can see the appeal and I am happy you have found summer fun, now you have seasons to look forward to all year round, awesome! PS Side business - Surron tours....
Ah, so that explains why some people fit the aftermarket pedal kit. I never saw the point.
Meh I plan to buy one in Sweden. They look so harmless and makes no sound. People never bat an eye for those e scooters or fatbikes, why would anyone care about a sur ron.
You can even make a snowmobile out of a snow kit.
I saw a pic of those Surron snowbike kits. Would need to try but I suspect they are garden/meadow toys.
What a wholesome review. I live in a suburb close to nature. I can however in no way get a dirtbike because of the noise and practicality. Nor do I want a MTB.
I feel like the Sur Ron was made for just my purposes. I cant wait to get one. Thank you.
Wholesome! There’s a word I haven’t heard in a while. Enjoy your ride.
@ADVENTURES This way...
I'll always keep my air cooled CRF230 for an apocalypse, however, it remains on a long vacation due to what the Surron offers.
Looks like a blast, especially with a group of buds..... That horn is hilarious, especially the crash horn!
We also use the horn to communicate. You can’t hear other riders unless they are very close, so we use quick toots You OK? Toot. I’m OK. Toot toot. Or “Toot toot toot toot-toot toooot toot” (The Muppets-It’s time to put on make-up)
@@AkatarawaJapan That's awesome! Looks like so much fun!
The dog looked like he was having a blast too.
Hard to beat the mutual joy of riding with a trail dog.
I'm getting one in about a month and a half. I cannot fuckin wait it will be perfect for canadian environment
Nice one. Snow is melting so nearly time to get riding.
Great video man, i orderred mine last week and what your saying makes a lot of sense.
Nice. Lots of fun coming your way.

Great review bud, thanks for sharing
Great video as always & an awesome review. I can’t wait to try one.
Please add it in to the next Akatarawa Olympics 😉😜🏍💨
I saw a golden retriever in last sur-ron cup event in saitama. Was that him😄
Haha. Yes.
Great video 🤙🏽.
Those trails look amazing, Any recommendations on where to ride these things?
Can’t go wrong with single track if you have access. Doesn’t take much to make a fun trail.
Like the elevator move in the leaves!
Haha. It’s got to be mega steep to work but it’s a fun sled vibe when it does.
Some people really really hate in Sur Rons for the same reason we love them! Those people need to realize it just ain’t for them and instead of hating so what makes them happpy
Sure they’re not for everyone, but that still leaves a whole lot of people who find them a revelation. So damn easy to have fun on. I have ridden my Surron more in 3 months than I rode my KX250 in 5 years.
Hhm ..Might need to look into that👍👍
Do it!
Well you certainly peaked my interest in one of these.
On a side note, taking those expensive 4 wheeled behemoths into places no one in their right minds should, really doesn't make sense. But it is so exhilarating, likely just like riding one of these up somewhere you only dared going down.
Super fun. Thanks for sharing. Talking of sharing, how many do you own? in case you get visitors wanting to share in the fun? hee hee
Just one. But the hangar usually has a few more lurking in the shadows that don’t mind being borrowed.
Sur ron is anything but underpowered. 9hp on a 120lb unit is super powerful
They go really well but can still feel under juiced blasting up steep hills. Love the lightness though and don’t want more power if it means massive heavy batteries.
@@AkatarawaJapan The extra weight of a more powerful 72v battery is negligible compared to the power output increase. A Torp TC500 and Chi 72v Surge would set your peak power to almost triple than stock, at around 25-30hp. The weight would only increase around 15lbs from the battery, as the Torp controller is much lighter than stock but significantly more powerful.
Thanks for the info. Good to know. Are there any controller overheating issues with the 72v? Stock surrons around here will overheat in mid-summer on big uphill pulls.
@@AkatarawaJapan Generally no, the controller doesn't heat up a whole lot. The main point of failure within the powertrain is the motor, as the stock motor can overheat when undergoing 10kw+ for extended periods, and can cause the internal magnets to come loose over time. People solve this by buying aftermarket motors such as the Torp TM25 or the Sotion motor. Apart from that with upgraded power of more than 12hp, the primary belt can fail quicker than usual, so some people opt to switch to a primary chain drive, while others just replace their primary belts more often. Due to the orientation of the controller, its easily air cooled by the oncoming airflow so overheating isn't a heard of issue. Also keep in mind that a 72v battery does deliver more power than a 60v or 66v system, however it does require an aftermarket controller. You can use an upgraded 60v battery with the stock controller for added range at the same power, or use a 60v with an upgraded controller for a few more kws of oomph. A 72v battery will not function without an upgraded controller. However, the Torp TC500 is compatible with the stock battery BMS, and can pull around 1000w more power out of the stock system without having to upgrade your battery at all. It can also be hotswapped with other 66v and 72v batteries while riding, so you can use a 72v battery as your main power source and carry your stock battery along as a reserve and hot swap if you get too far away from home.
I will be opening my mind to testing this come melt up here 👌👌👌🍻🍻🍻
Good plan.
Bro just wanted to let you know there's a Sauron type of bike it has a 4 speed gearbox it is electric and it's for 5 1/2 Gees you should upgrade and it weighs about the same
Do u think a14 year old could fit on this bike ?
Should do. They’re pretty low with the stock seat.
@@AkatarawaJapan thank u I want one so bad I’m saving up for one. Im so excited to ride it every where. Japan looks so beautiful.
5:15 I like the sidehill maneuver :) or is that the 'elevator"?
Ah yes, the elevator. Works well on steep autumn leaves. Still trying to figure out the escalator.
@@AkatarawaJapan I enjoyed the video and can appreciate your opinion as someone who rides snowmobiled in the backcountry and does some mountain biking too. I ride mountain bikes in the off season to scratch the itch, but man downhill mountain biking gets sketchy haha.
Awesome toy! Must be cheap to run too: no expensive belt, oil, fuel. Is it demanding on cardio ?
It’s as demanding as you make it. And you can make it really demanding because they are light enough to try anything.
@@AkatarawaJapan I saw that “slide hill” it was pretty was nice. Look very maneuverable.
@@PierresAdventures Slide hill-perfect. I’m going to steal that.
@@AkatarawaJapan ça fait plaisir!
What back wheel did you switch to?
Standard rim. Changed tire to a Shinko 70/100-18
@@AkatarawaJapan thanks! Probably my next mod. Great content, I enjoyed this video.
Where did you find them? Just a quick Google search I can only find 70-100-19
@@Zackattack94 standard size for the sur ron is 19s. Maybe he ment 19?
@@Zackattack94 Don’t know, sorry. The shop ordered it for me online somewhere in Japan.
